A Very Skilled Wood Carver Makes Incredible Designs

Pacific Rim - Official Wondercon Trailer #2

00Scud00 jokingly says...

I do sometimes wonder if all the eye rolling I do during some sci-fi films might end up damaging my vision. That being said, if it were ever written into law that all sci-fi and fantasy scripts had to be approved by a committee scientists I fear that the genre would die out almost over night. Every space film would end up looking like 2001: A Space Odyssey, no Star Wars, no epic space battles with the sound and fury we come to associate with war. No more Babylon 5 and watching star ships carve each other up like thanksgiving turkeys. Nope, it's all totally correct now, it's also boring as hell.
Look on the bright side, whenever a movie like this comes along it gives you another chance to show everyone just how much smarter you are than all the mouth breathers out there.

Yeah, I notice that a lot in film. If something the size of a skyscraper picked up a ship like a bat, it would crumple and fold under its own weight as soon as it was off the ground. I don't blame the FX guys, I blame the writers. They script that stuff in there without any real understanding of the physics, just figuring it will look cool.
No surprise there, hollywood and their mouth-breathing target-audience and all, so I'll swallow my disbelief and disappointment and hope it's at least a decent Evangelion americanization.

Bill Maher Discusses Boston Bombing and Islam

bcglorf says...

Sorry, but those are lame and old excuses. The Soviets were doing the exact same thing too, why do you singular blame carving up of nations on the west? More than that, there has never been a time in all of human history when that was not happening. Before the British empire it was the Romans, before them it was the Egyptians, along the middle of that was mohammad and his crews attempts at their own empires.

I'm not willing to excuse atrocities and crimes because of earlier atrocities and crimes. The Sunni on Shia and Shia on Sunni violence predates America by a few centuries anyways, and it does nothing today to dissuade, prevent or even retaliate against the West. It is vile and far beyond what is seen by proponents of any other major religion.

Well apparently you just can't fucking read. I addressed that in my post, The West, meaning America and Britain primarily has carved up and destroyed the Middle East several times over. The Atrocities that happen in the wake of that happen in the context of previous wars and atrocities. So if you destroy a country and suddenly there's no food and people are killing eachother for food, it's YOUR Fault. You created the conditions in which this horrible shit can happen.

That is exactly what The Nazis were found guilty of, waging a war of aggression. That is what we did in Iraq, it is not surprising to any knowledgeable person that this created power issues and ignited other tensions. In fact most Iraqis agree it was the US that caused the civil war and escalated the violence.

Next time try to read and maybe do some research. It is about Western Powers destroying and trying to create Nations and failing miserably, helping to start and escalate a cycle of violence in those regions.

Long story very short...I KNOW MORE THAN YOU ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

Can't you forget about hating the west long enough to see what's actually happening in the world? All the accusations against 'Islam' or more accurately 'Islamic extremists' are overwhelmingly in regards to the number of Arab muslims that they have killed in the Middle East. Sunni and Shia killings against each other are happening EVERY DAY. On a good day the worst such killings claim less than a dozen lives. Entire nations of millions of people in places like Pakistan uphold and support that blasphemy and converting away from Islam should be a capital offense. Those accused rarely make it to trial before being killed by an angry mob.

This is NOT about western abuses against Islamic peoples, and Islamic people fighting back. That's ridiculously narrow minded ignorant approach of a western obsessed mind. The crimes being committed and painting 'modern Islam' so badly are ignoring the west, and are entirely made up of extremists killing their (muslim and non-muslim) neighbors in the name of Islam.

I'm for it. It helps carve up the site in an interesting way for new and existing users.

BTW if there are going to be more non-video items on the frontpage you might as well use those to do a "Featured channel..." thing every so often and perhaps this could be the first one.

Elder Scrolls Online Cinematic Trailer

TheFreak says...

Epic bearded guy would be wearing Nordic Carved Armor. So, yeah, Ebonheart Pact.

I completely agree about Elder Scrolls being a single player experience. For me anyway. I've never enjoyed MMOs and there's no chance that this is going to sway me. About the only thing I'd like added to the TES games is a little more micromanagement of my companions. Dragon Age: Origins got that right.

MilkmanDan said:

Pretty cool trailer... Sadly, I find "Elder Scrolls" and "MMO" to be an oxymoron, so I'd say there is about a snowball's chance in hell of me actually being interested in playing it -- despite the fact that I'm a huge Elder Scrolls fan.

On a different note, anyone want to wager a guess as to what the different groups were in the vid? I thought it was Aldmeri Dominion attacking an Imperial fort of some kind, but then the 3-way Mexican stand off at the end seemed like Dominion vs. ??? (Dark Brotherhood or Thieves guild?) vs. ??? (braided beard dude in Dwemer armor = return of the Dwemer?)

Lilithia says...

It was falsely reported that NBC had canceled the show, but its future is still unclear and probably depends on the success of the pilot.

Bryan Fuller: "If we get a huge number, all the cast are in line to be picked up and to go to series. And that was one of the things that NBC wanted to make sure, that they had all of the cast deals in line — so that if we did get a big number and audiences proved their appetite for this type of show, that they could move very quickly.
There was talk initially of putting it on in the spring and doing 5 or 6 episodes. But I think because it’s Halloween and because Grimm is doing very well for them, their impetus was, “Let’s get it out there to the audience now and have audiences really react to it.” I stand by the show, so I’m like, great, let’s get it out there, let’s get people to watch it. At its core it’s a story about a family trying to carve a path in the world for a son who has challenges. It’s intimately relatable, but we get to tell that story with monsters."

The Worst Craft Idea Ever

Lann says...

I think a lot of it is books with monetary value or ones that could increase in value. Completly silly to use them on something that like @spoco2 said, is going to be thrown away in a very short amount of time.

You don't see as many people getting outraged about book art because those artist are elevating the book far past something that looks like it came from Pier 1 Imports.

As far as saying nasty things, that happens whenever anyone does something stupid on the internet.

>> ^Sagemind:

Although I think cutting up books is an incredibly bad idea for so many reasons, I am finding this notion incredibly entertaining.
This whole thing has stirred up quite a bit of hate and made her a laughingstock of the moment.
Do a google search on her name and there are reviews coming out completely debasing her, ans saying all kinds of nasty things - as is happening here.
But why? They are just books, they aren't even Holy books. This begs the question, "How sacred are our books?" What are your thoughts?
