John Cleese - I Could Care Less

My_design says...

I always say "I couldn't care less."
Unless I mean to say that "I could care less, but I care so little already that I won't."
Of course if I care that little, spending the time to say that much is too much and so I just *grunt*.

Agreed all religious books hate gays, subjugate women and worse. But protect your Koran. Just don't ever pretend to be progressive or for equal rights. Not sure what happened to the old bareboards2, guess something changed. And btw, I don't remember everything, but I do remember people and their hearts. That part is so fucking easy I seriously think other people just don't care. I want equality, and that sometimes means people are equally full of shit--ie. religious texts. And also, no fucking way can someone defend it as being "interpreted differently by different people." Maybe a book says kill all the faggots and certain people would say it means kill them with kindness, but only a truly fucking ignorant person would think that about followers of that religion. I couldn't care less about prejudice against a book.

bareboards2 said:

You're right. I don't remember every conversation I have ever had.

Besides, people can change their mind.

So I go by what they say.

All the various Christian sects go back to the same book. Well, the Mormons have their extra bit, but they read the bible too.

There are plenty of Muslims who interpret their holy book in different ways.

I stand by my downvote as perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

PS Plenty of smiting and capital punishment in the Bible. No different than the Quran.

I'm legitimately going to miss this guy. And his role is not one easily replaceable; I cannot think of any other person who is so selfless yet inspired to continue to research the cold hard facts and saying it how it is. The status quo will be happy that he goes, but for millions - this guy remained a real inspiration. Someone who found the calling of anarchism at a very young age and never let go. He is someone who knows the historic truths as well as understanding the fabric of the mind to a somewhat tangible degree above others and without much personal infliction. The guy looks at facts and could care less about your opinion, or his own "opinion" or emotions on topics. He is an incredibly rare and crucial resource.

Why sift through the good and bad deeds of the faithful in an effort to determine what denomination did what to who? Better to take it to the source material and point out what's wrong there. I could care less what someone's exogenesis (or the resulting actions, positive or negative) is, if the sacred text itself is wrong, how could ANY denomination be right?

Instead you need to target specific denominations within specific communities and how they practice the religion.

Jon Stewart Trashes CNN on 'Larry King Live'

ChaosEngine says...

No, you're absolutely right

I pay attention to what you and others on this site say because I've read what you've written in the past, and I think there are some smart people here who have interesting things to say.

But we can get in depth here. It's not just a soundbite; it's a discussion where people are forced to defend their arguments.

That just doesn't work with a tweet on a news show. It doesn't add anything to the conversation.

Especially with complex topics.

I couldn't care less what Joe Public thinks about climate change/ universal healthcare / GMOs. Get me someone educated. Sure, we can discuss it after, but on a limited time format, it's just noise.

Why Benghazi Hearing is taking so damn long

newtboy says...

Funny to me that he's so interested in interviewing the 'witnesses', yet has failed to interview the two 'witnesses' that have been available for over 6 months.
Also funny to me that he's waiting on the DOJ, who has requested a meeting to discuss the witness interviews, but apparently scheduling that meeting is too much for him to do and he'd rather lambast the messengers that repeat the requests, and actually has the gall to say 'You know why the DOJ isn't here, because we don't have a problem with the DOJ'. WHAT?!?

I would say it's just as likely that the Bengasi hearings will 'stall' until next summer, when they'll suddenly be the most important thing the right wing can deal with/talk about. As far as I'm concerned, it's just another 'birther' type of thing. Only meaningful to rile up the republican base that could not care less about the facts as long as they have something to be angry about.

Folks on the street haven't been all too friendly towards the Greeks for some years now, and the exhaustion caused by this mess only added to an attitude of "just get it over with" over the last year or so.

For nearly three years, I have tried to provide counter-arguments whenever someone went off on a tirade against the Greeks (and others) during a conversation with me, or generally around me. You can't really try to explain the birth defects of the Eurozone in 20 seconds or less, but just having some raw data ready at hand (pensions, wages, state of the healthcare system, etc) was usually enough to get people thinking.

But today was different. Today was ugly. Three times I was involved in an ad-hoc discussion about Greece and three times people couldn't care less about the facts at hand. It always boiled down to "we've paid enough, they need to piss off". Period. End of story. People turned sour, big time. All this time, I had never been yelled at, or laughed at, not even once. Until today.

Worst of all, a friend of mine with family back in Greece stopped arguing altogether. What's the point, she said...

You're exactly the indigenous apologist asshole type Stewart is referring to.

When clearly there's a ruling class that own the field, all the players and still tilt the board in their favor.

As the only brown person on this site..

A New Level Of Archery Skills

bareboards2 says...

@eric3579 I never had an issue with all the details of what he is doing -- couldn't care less about bow strength and armor. I was more curious if he is ACTUALLY DOING IT, or if this was some sort of CGI.

I did find this one article about him, posted Jan 2015, with these two quotes that spoke to my issues:

"This guy is the Clint Eastwood of archery," says Tim Wells, professional bow hunter and host of the TV show, Relentless Pursuit. "Or if I was talking to someone who had never shot a bow and arrow, I'd say he is the 'Bruce Lee playing ping pong of archery.' We have all played ping-pong and none of us can play with nun chucks — that's what this guy's skillset with a bow is comparable to. He's a badass."

Experts agree that the skills demonstrated in the video are unbelievable, but also completely real. "His skillset is tremendous," says Byron Ferguson, owner of the Bare Bow Archery School and star archer on the History Channel's show, Extreme Marksmen. "These shots are legitimate, despite some video editing. His speed is almost unbelievable."

I can't tell if they have met this guy or not, or if they, too, are just looking at the videos. That other "world record"? All I can find is more videos and nothing from Guinness or anyone else.

So at present, I am going to stay neutral as to whether this guy is for reals or not.

The Kalam Cosmological Argument

shveddy says...

Nope, the mainstream theory is that we don't have a clue. We're just fairly certain it didn't go down 6000 years ago and that the earth wasn't formless before there was light and that whatever process happened probably couldn't care less whether we mix fibers, etc...

shinyblurry said:

The mainstream theory these days is that something came from nothing. That to me seems to be the idea which could not have any justification. The idea that the God of the bible is the Creator of our Universe is something that touches history, in the life death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If Jesus was resurrected from the dead then His claims about the order of the cosmos, and our relation to it, warrant an investigation; if not, then they should be discarded.

i just dont really care what they think of me,as i am quite sure they could care less what i thought of them.

and of course the rest of my comment is beneath you.thats exactly how those "elites" we are speaking of think.
which is basically you have no retort,no response and no argument.

because there is NO response.
you got called out...deal with it.

or do you DENY targeted downvoting my pque without watching the content?
do you DENY not adding any context nor nuance to help people understand your position better?
do you REALLY think this video has merit?
and not just knuckle-dragging "ugh..goverment bad..politicians lie"

and if so,could you please explain, with some clarity, the reasons behind this video? because,as you stated,we agree WHAT obamacare actually is.so?what are your thoughts?

and please make them your thoughts and not some copy/pasted plagiarized argument from the von mises web-page.

have a little self-respect.
