Seinfeld: What "Nothing" Really Means

Socialism explained

enoch says...

this is pretty high on the retarded scale.
and tagging this in the *education *philosophy and *learn channels is insulting to those who use their brains.

look man,i get that you disagree with socialism as an economic system, and you are perfectly within your rights to hold that opinion, but it is apparent that you have no clue what socialism is and continue to regurgitate the tired old tropes from the mcarthy era.

you,my friend, suffer from an incredibly bad case of doublethink.

you cannot on the one hand view taxes as theft and then turn around and support the military.which is a socialist institution and uses taxes to fund itself.

what you fail to realize is that this discussion goes back to the beginning of this country:what is the governments role.since the constitution was a brilliant document, and what made it brilliant was NOT simply the words written but the fact that our forefathers KNEW that they didnt know everything and they allowed for the constitution to be changed,as our society changed.

which is why we got rid of slavery, and allowed women to vote.we expanded the bill of rights to include blacks.

we did these things as a society.

we got rid of child labor and we decided that basic education was a fundamental right.

socialism is not a utopian philosphy.it is an economic philosophy and it can be just as abused as capitalism.the bank bailouts in 2007 was a socialist reaction, and one the majority of the american people disagreed with, but so was the interstate highways...which we DID agree upon.

so to title this "socialism explained" is pretty fucking stupid.

i already linked you an actual breakdown of american socialism, which appears you failed to read.so allow me to try again and i implore you.give it a read:

Why the suspended monorail failed

newtboy says...

He listed at least one reason, that because they are often single track systems, a single breakdown freezes the entire system.

Once it's assumed that it's not reliable or, worse, that there's a decent chance of being stuck in a suspended/elevated train until the whole system can be evacuated (requiring specialized rescue from every train that didn't stop in a station, then being 'down' until the breakdown is fixed or removed), people won't use it, and it will fail.

That doesn't explain why they don't just make all systems 2 track systems like the German one to solve that issue for a bit more money (but not double the money), but it does explain why some failed. It seems to me that they could still be a decent solution in some congested areas where light rail only adds to congestion, and they look neat.

Still doesn't explain why they fail.
He listed the alternatives not to build one in the first place, but if one is built, why it fails?

right on man.
glad i went to someone who is actually there.
i suspected a certain bias from this guy (although i adore his rants, they crack me up).
should i dump the video.biased as it is?
i mean,i didnt post it to reveal some contextualized understanding of the situation.i just loved this guys passion and rage lol.

or should i copy/paste your response to me to add a more balanced and nuanced understanding of the situation?

regardless, thank you for your time and your most excellent breakdown my friend.
you seriously rock brother!

Oculus Rift has got nothing, compared to Roy!

00scud00 had a good answer, but it's actually a callback to a much earlier episode that features the Meeseeks box. The Meeseeks box generates a Meeseeks ("Hi, I'm Mr Meeseeks! Look at me!") who will then help you with any task you desire, and pop out of existence once it's done helping you. In the earlier episode, however, the Meeseeks gets a task it can't solve, and has a psychotic breakdown ("I'm Mr. Meeseeks! We're only supposed to live for five minutes! I've been doing this for two days - an eternity in Meeseeks time! Look at me!").

Here, apparently, someone generated a Meeseeks to get better at an arcade game, as a background gag.

Why did the creature at 2:09 in the background pop out of existence?

Tired Of Driving

Hell yes. That jump in her step and not reacting at all when her car took off without her tells me meth or some other mental breakdown.

She might have some kind of mental illness, which would explain the "non-injury related reason." But my first thought when I saw her stumble out was that she was high as a mutha-fucking kite.

Service dog alerts to self harm (Aspergers)

lucky760 says...

I understand the sentiment and don't hold it against you, but you are absolutely incorrect.

I can't stress enough that this is exactly what an actual Asperger's self-harm breakdown looks like. I was shocked at how exactly I recognized her every action and facial expression.

Please cease all doubts about the legitimacy of this video for her sake and everyone else who suffers from or loves someone with Asperger's.

Pardon my cynicism, I love dogs and I donate to many dog training programs like this. But having said that, this looks like it was done for the camera, instead of the camera just being at the right place at the right time, which bugs me.

It also bugs me that "Aspergers" is stamped all over every other story you read now. Now Jerry Seinfeld and David Byrne and apparently half the offspring of half of my coworkers have a "touch of Aspergers" or are on the "autism spectrum". It's like a freaking designer diagnosis now.

And there's no shortage of news stories about someone who was the victim of road-rage or excessive police force who "suffered from Aspergers" and probably didn't understand the situation. Apparently calling them an "honor student" doesn't generate enough pathos anymore.

I'm sure I'll be misunderstood but I have nothing but empathy for this person in the video and all those that GENUINELY suffer from this.

300 Foreign Military Bases? WTF America?!

newtboy says...

Crap....I just took your word that I was wrong. Just minor googling shows me that I was essentially right, and what you speak of happened near the end of total allied control of Germany. We've essentially had bases there since the end of the war.
WIKI-
In practice, each of the four occupying powers wielded government authority in their respective zones and carried out different policies toward the population and local and state governments there. A uniform administration of the western zones evolved, known first as the Bizone (the American and British zones merged as of 1 January 1947) and later the Trizone (after inclusion of the French zone). The complete breakdown of east-west allied cooperation and joint administration in Germany became clear with the Soviet imposition of the Berlin Blockade that was enforced from June 1948 to May 1949. The three western zones were merged to form the Federal Republic of Germany in May 1949, and the Soviets followed suit in October 1949 with the establishment of the German Democratic Republic (GDR).

In the west, the occupation continued until 5 May 1955, when the General Treaty (German: Deutschlandvertrag) entered into force. However, upon the creation of the Federal Republic in May 1949, the military governors were replaced by civilian high commissioners, whose powers lay somewhere between those of a governor and those of an ambassador. When the Deutschlandvertrag became law, the occupation ended, the western occupation zones ceased to exist, and the high commissioners were replaced by normal ambassadors. West Germany was also allowed to build a military, and the Bundeswehr, or Federal Defense Force, was established on 12 November 1955.

Will YOU stand corrected? ...or was this a misunderstanding of what I meant by 'why the bases are in Germany', because I do understand those reasons have changed over time, as you indicated...I was talking about the original reason we stationed American military there.

TheGenk said:

Sorry newtboy, but you're wrong on that one. Can't find any info on Japan other than that they got their own military back in 1954. But Germany's Bundeswehr was founded in 1955 and was by the mid 60s already at over 400.000 men, to stop the "evil russians" taking over Europe (That's about the same strength as the British Army at that time).

Norm Macdonald Gets All Choked Up On His Final Letterman

speechless says...

I don't really understand the last sentence you wrote. How did I "indicate it being an action of opposition"?

I think you're being unfair to Letterman.

If you want to be empathetic then try to understand the people and not just their actions. They are performers. This is their profession. Dave saw that Norm was having a breakdown in his performance on stage (he was barely able to speak) and rescued him.

Yes, you're right, people shouldn't have to be embarrassed about an honest emotional display of affection, I totally agree. But, I'm pretty sure the audience got it and didn't need to see Dave & Norm crying in each others arms to drive the point home.

Also, try to understand, they weren't both in the same emotional state. Norm knew what he was going to say, Dave did not. Sometimes when people are confronted with praise like that they downplay it. Norm said it himself... "No truck for the sentimental"

I think Dave was blown away by this, and hardly knew how to react. That's how I saw it anyways. The whole thing was very sweet. And Norm killed his set.

Or ... maybe it's not that complicated lol. The show was just over and Dave had to say goodnight.

poolcleaner said:

Well, that would leave me speechless, were I to care about anyone who would feel embarrassment over this. If Letterman did that to spare embarassment, he should be embarrassed, and I don't believe it.

Another person crying for you is excellent. Humbling and GOOD for all -- including an audience that desperately needs this truth of being. It's humanizing. It's deeply rooted in being emotionally TOGETHER, not as you would indicate it being an action of opposition.
