Best First Dance at a Wedding Ever ( She's a Keeper )

maatc says...

My wife and I did something similar!
Started out with a waltz by Silje Nergard and then broke into a choreography with Loving is really my game by Brainstorm. I forgot my moves halfway through but then we just pointed at the crowd and they filled the floor in a second.
We were actually inspired by the thriller wedding dance. My wifes sister secretly taught a few people some moves beforehand, getting them to think they would surprise us with a dance.
We had lots of fun for sure!
Unfortunately no video exists of the dance

Birth control for middle school girls? (Sexuality Talk Post)

Okay Everyone, We Need To Have A Chat About Snuff & Iraq (Sift Talk Post)

Krupo says...

I often pipe in late in a big conversion to summarize and make my own observations. Farhad's pretty much said everything I had to say, though.

I will say, though, that two levels of NSFW, garden-variety NSFW and extreme-but-allowed-because-reasonable-per-this-thread GRAPHIC makes sense.

The observation that a better than term than "graphic" would appropriate isn't a bad idea, either. Which term you use is another brainstorm in itself. "GORE"? no.

"ULTRA REAL" or something along those lines.

"UNCENSORED" or something like that is also a possibility.

"RAW" is another possibility, and less misleading than uncensored, which could be uncensored. Local TV station CityTV had/has a feature called "in the raw" where they just post the raw news footage they've recorded of some events.

Ok, so "RAW" is my proposal.

A Quality Voting System (Sift Talk Post)

thesnipe says...

@dag My idea really was for a built in polling system, something that you would have to be logged in to use and could be for both serious and fun topics.

When I meamt voting I may have thrown some of you off, I don't want to make the sift into congress! I'm just brainstorming a fun way of gathering opinions on a larger scale into a nice small space.

Did you see me escaping? (Woohoo Talk Post)

Krupo says...

My thanks to the senior collective members for their hard work in helping the brainstorm succeed.

Now I need to do something about the group title because of the Sift's character limit. I think I'll just cut off "Soc" since it's morphed from "Society" into Channel anyway.

[edit] ... done. And the Golden Simpson Yellow has returned. On my monitor it's a mix of just enough yellow but dark enough to be legible. How does it look on other people's screens?

Popularity-Based VideoSift Beta Test Discussion (Sift Talk Post)

Krupo says...

What's the scale? 1 to 7? I wonder if a more graduated system (to take it to an extreme, 1 to 100, or perhaps something a bit smaller) would be even better because it would offer more "feedback" to users, allowing them to see a bit of the effect from their vote (doing a vot eand seeing no change in siftscore may frustrate some) or perhaps the mystery is part of the appeal. Just brainstorming here on the psychology of sifting.

Are we secret now?

BTW, if you're inviting anyone else, a direct link to this post would be nice for the lazy among us.

London Police Attacked by Drunken Hooligans

gorillaman says...

Brainstorm. Issue every police officer with a taser and dock a week's pay from any officer who uses it on someone. If a situation is urgent enough that they're willing to give up their hard-earned wages it is probably an appropriate time to use the taser. Not perfect, but it's better than not giving them the means to defend themselves.

Or you could argue that the police enforce a wide variety of unjust and oppressive laws and should all be executed.

Interactive Reality as Applied to Nintendo

James Roe says...

from youtube:

His is a live-action performance from the annual Carnegie Mellon University Entertainment Technology Center's (http://www.etc.cmu.edu) Building Virtual Worlds Show. The performance is from December 6th, 2006, and students have 2 weeks to brainstorm, develop, and implement a virtual world, which in this case, was required of us to make an entertaining experience for a large audience.

The performance is given in McConomy Auditorium in Carnegie Mellon, via the technology of the Playmotion. The playmotion is a motion sensor technology that receives data on the user's head and two hands.

Members of the team include:
Paul Capriolo (programmer)
M.E. Chung (designer/fx)
Carlos Pineda (audio/stage mgmt/script)
Jake Rheinfrank (artist)

Channel Refining? (Sift Talk Post)

...been thinkin' the same,..as I try to brainstorm a suitable revision, all those sub-group suggestions sound great....perhaps a user-friendly grid like on groper, where the categories swell as you cursor over...could get stoopid, though, ....cute, pretty, sweet, that would piss me off, cutes' bad enough....

A Tribute to Fantasy Movies (How Many Have YOU Seen?)

atara says...

Good one... Except there are so few movies shown in this video. In about 10 seconds of brainstorming, we came up with 3 other movies that would have fit (Beastmaster, Conan, Excalibur), and I'm sure there are more. Oh well, still a good video.

VideoSift 2.0 Preview and Jennifer Gray (Sift Talk Post)

Brainstorming a list:
- Raw dough
- ingredients
- Sift-me's!
- the slate (too similar to slate.com though)
- tabula rasa (can it be any more esoteric)
- queue (mmmm... classic)

What to do About the Queue (Sift Talk Post)

oohahh says...

I dislike the idea of limiting the number of submissions to star level. That's a power law in the making, where only the gold stars stay on the leaderboard. The new users will never have a chance.

Also, just because someone has a gold star means that they're the only folks with the good submissions. We do ourselves a disservice by denying their submissions.

So, the main problem we're trying to solve is to keep the queue small. To keep it small, you need to get people to look at it. That's something I don't have the numbers for. However, I think we can steal a good idea from some other sites: display a few "recently submitted" videos on the main page.

Idea: add another box on the right-hand side with some thumbnail-sized pics of the videos and descriptions of those submissions.

Brainstorming. I'm not saying these are good ideas, I'm just saying that these /are/ ideas:

Idea: add another box (same location) with the top five videos that are close to escaping.

Idea: add the close-to-escaping videos at the bottom of the front page instead, at full-size.

Idea: you could even inline a few random selections from the queue on the main page, intermixed with the rest.

Hope this is clear. It's late and I'm off to bed.
