Albert Camus: The Myth of Sisyphus

The "sexy voice"would be an indication that your body removal would be premature in my opinion. Give me a call when you expire and I'll see what I can do for you

<confused introspection wondering what I just said>

<outward commitment to original ambiguous statement to avoid perceived social stigma>

<ponderance of self-reflective statements in the comments of a long-dead philosophical video>

62 to 64 retirement age..
some government cheese for 30+ years.
Seriously.
You should be able to work few more years.

Granted there are differences between a labor and an accountant on ones body after 30 years of work.

Social security is a ponzi scheme.
Once introduced the average life span was 67 and SS come started at 65.

+ there were about 5 putting in for every 1 taking out. Now its about 3 to 1. Unsustainable.

EMTs charged with murder

newtboy says...

Full disclosure, I’m not an EMT, but I do know it takes SOME medical training to be one, and it takes absolutely none to know slamming a near unconscious person in full body physical distress with full force on their face then strapping them face down across the chest so hard it asphyxiates them is something a layman with zero medical training knows is not proper or acceptable or even safe treatment.
This wasn’t a case of being tired or inattentive, IMO….it was a case of, for whatever reason, them being put out and clearly enraged at having to help a black man in full blown alcohol withdrawals, and treating him as a sub human inconvenience rather than a distressed patient needing help.

It varies by state, but in California where I live…. California EMT programs are at least 160 hours and include at least 136 hours of didactic training and at least 24 hours of clinical training. The individual must have 10 patient contacts. An EMT who continues training at the AEMT level must meet additional prerequisites.

I was going to start off saying that the whole concept of a private ambulance company - an essential service run for profit that so obviously benefits the wealthy over the poor - is so alien to me that it feels wrong to my core.

Then I read your comment and thought that the training really is at the heart of this. Were they sufficiently trained and managed to know that this could/would kill?

This is not a rhetorical question.

If they were paid little and/or forced to work long shifts so they're facing this while tired enough not to think/care, then I blame the company and, by association, the system. If they were well trained and had no genuine excuse (rather than reason) for their behaviour then I blame them.

The reality probably isn't as cut-and-dried as I present it above, but there's definitely a spectrum of blame to be considered.

They knew and now we know the President knew

Wow. The universe just loves to crush your conspiracy theories….today in Jan 6 evidence releases (internal texts) we learned that Trump’s claim that he tried to call up 10000 national guard troops that Nancy refused was actually referencing an internal whitehouse conversation where he was talked out of calling in 10000 national guard troops to protect him and the rioters from the police and liberals as they marched on the capitol, after which the secretary of defense went so far as to write letters to the national guard and military ordering that any troops deployed could absolutely not be armed, not have helmets, body armor, or any riot control gear, and could only act in self defense …sent out of the justified fear that Trump and his insurrectionist allies would use them anyway….something they did try to do even after the idea had been quashed in the whitehouse but the SOD wouldn’t answer their calls.

If that’s not evidence of knowledge and forethought, we have different definitions of the words.

Who is in charge of capital security?
Who is charge of calling them up? McConnell and Pelosi ? The Sargent at arms?
This guy had foreknowledge and didn't do enough. Why.

But Lets get a group of Democrats, have a 1 sided hearing and blame Trump.

At what point did Trump say Lets Storm the Capital and take over ?

He never said / implied such a thing.

yup. what if the standards of journalism return to the level before FN is often a quandary; would it be a boon or a bust?

i'd like it. 'tho many shepherds would lose their sheep.*

might take any news the same way a body would gather from people in their own lives. some folks are credible, some not, & some are a bear to get anything out of 'em. try that w/retail news sources.

personally, the FACT Hannity said this only underlines FN is a second-hand rag seller. poor quality product w/sales staff pushing the hard sale.

patrons get what they buy.

hope Murdoch & cronies get hammered for billions. they need to give back all those ill-gotten gains.

*the 'net has many CREDIBLE sources. some browsers have translation features built in, so impartial reports can be obtained if'n American media reviles yah so.

Now that the body cam and secret service footage of the brutal terrorist MAGA attack against Pelosi has been viewed in court, and his confession, and they are all exactly what was reported by real media (not the fake news you enjoy), a break in and brutal attack against an innocent 82 year old man by a stranger, are you prepared to retract your blatantly homophobic insulting charge that it was a homosexual lover’s spat between the Senator’s husband and the typically violent nutjob MAGgot?

Of course not, you don’t care a bit about being correct, moral, or civil ever, just about being the biggest rancid douche bag possible at all times. Why is that?

Flagler County Sheriff welcomes would-be criminals

newtboy says...

When police act like police and not a sadistic criminal gang that murders and steals and rapes more than any other.

When police act like “to protect and serve” describes their obligations, not the obligations of the citizens they abuse.

When it becomes normal and safe for “good” cops to turn in bad cops, with the full support of the force instead of today’s MO where they get fired, ostracized, slandered, and often outright murdered by fellow police with out fear of prosecution.

(like the cop in LA killed “training” by the same group of police he was investigating for a group rape, set up by his superiors to be “trained” by them, in private, and not stopped when they put him in the hospital with broken ribs and multiple staples in his head 2 days before they killed him by breaking his neck (with his entire body covered in bruises, cuts, and severe lacerations)….being protected by the entire force today. This was in October. No charges pending, called a “training accident”, no investigation. This is not out of the ordinary one bit.)

When every neo Nazi, proud boy, boogaloo boy, and other actual terrorists are purged from the force, along with anyone ever fired from any police force for cause.

In short, when they return to being police, I will give them the respect they will have earned, that’s when …but they have turned from that and only earned scorn and hatred in the last 35+ years. There are no good cops today, just unending barrels of bad apples rotten to the core. Every good cop has been removed or turned into an accomplice. Every force a gang. Every chief a gang leader.

This is not news to you. If you could read, you would have read this response to the same question quite a few times. That you ask again only proves you simply don’t read answers, you just post dumb questions you think are insulting or dismissive. No wonder you know nothing.

Professional economist here (hence, perceived as right wing) who began studying economics due to concern about climate change (hence, perceived as left wing).

[1] The classic statement of when markets 'work' is the 'first fundamental theorem of welfare economics'.

[2] 'work' in this sense means 'leads to a Pareto-optimal outcome', which means an outcome in which no one can be made better off without making someone worse off. This is a low standard: an outcome in which I have everything is Pareto-optimal.

[3] the conditions for the welfare theorems are generally not satisfied in practice. Here, as alluded to in the ad, carbon emissions are 'externalities': if an oil company sells you gas, which you then use, both of you are better off, because you're assumed to have taken into account the effects of your exchange, and decided to proceed; other parties have not, so may be worse off.

[4] in general, failure of the welfare theorem conditions isn't enough to make the case for government intervention: the outcome may still be 'constrained' efficient - meaning that, given the inherent constraints in the problem (e.g. asymmetric information), the market outcome is Pareto efficient.

[5] again, even if it is, you may not like the particular constrained efficient outcome the market yields (e.g. I get everything).

[6] in the case of externalities, the theory is pretty well established - if we want efficient outcomes, we need to align the private and social costs. There are two basic market-based tools for doing that: quantity tools (e.g. carbon permits) and price tools (e.g. carbon taxes). Which performs better depends on the sort of market imperfections.

[7] obviously, we will never have a perfect estimate of the efficient price or quantity of carbon to emit in a given year. Equally obviously, to me at least, this is a classic case of an externality with a well developed body of theory pointing in the direction of some level of controls.

[8] in my experience: people familiar with the economic theory tend not to be 'pro-market' or 'anti-market': they tend to want to understand how the market can be used to deliver societal objectives and, when it can't, how to correct its imperfections.

Arizona Republicans Attacking People Trying To Vote

newtboy says...

These anonymous, masked, heavily armed, violent, abusive, accusatory terrorists have now been barred by a federal judge from continuing their blatant voter intimidation tactics.

Their leader has been forced to retract her lies…she had been claiming anyone dropping more than one vote is absolutely stuffing ballot boxes illegally, a mule, and proof of voter fraud, all outright lies, had to say specifically that it’s perfectly legal to drop off for others in many circumstances, and had to actually post the AZ law on all her social media pages. Armed thugs, and wearing body armor is now restricted by 250ft from boxes, and the terrorists may not contact voters unless the voter initiates contact (that includes yelling “mule”).

Every one should be identified for public retribution. That’s exactly what they were doing to legal voters for voting legally, except they were labeling those innocent citizens as vote fraud perpetrators when identified, intentionally identifying them for people like the failed Pelosi assassin, so turn about is fair play, identify them as child molesters using playground pictures as the background for their headshots.
Snitches get stitches…terrorists get torn apart. These are terrorists.

I’m certain their employers wouldn’t want to be connected to them. Someone please dox these terrorist assholes.
