Blind Man Sees Wife For First Time - Bionic Eye
Going blind is one of my worst fears. I'm glad to see any progress in bionic eyes.

Hugh Herr: The new bionics that let us run, climb and dance
That is a valid concern, and it's very difficult to address.
Certainly, bionics for injury victims should be made available through your health system. I'd agree with the speaker here when he says that is a human right.
But voluntary augmentation is a much harder sell. On one hand, the situation you describe (where we have an augmented "caste" and a baseline caste) is certainly undesirable. But equally, it's not really practicable to fund everyone for every augmentation they want.
Tricky question.
Although as Yahtzee says "if there's a conflict between people who have ocean liner pistons for forearms and people who insist that everyone be as shit as they, I know which side I'm on!"
I'm not worried about a loss of humanity or w/e - Are amputees somehow less human because they use a prosthesis? I don't think so.
I'd be more worried about a divide forming between those that can afford to enhance themselves, be it through implants or some sort of genetic modification, and those can't. One would hope that this technology would improve the lives of all humanity and not create a society with a rigid hierarchy with almost no social mobility.

Bionic arm gives cyborg drummer superhuman skills
From the article:
For Barnes, the device needed to be able to take cues from the human body. The lab designed a prosthesis that uses a technique called electromyography to pick up on electrical signals in the upper arm muscles. By tensing his biceps, Barnes controls a small motor that changes how tightly the prosthetic arm grips the drumstick and how quickly it moves, vital skills for a drummer.
The researchers then added another layer of complexity: a second, autonomous drumstick on the robot arm (see photo). This second stick, controlled via its own motor, uses a microphone and an accelerometer to sense the rhythm Barnes is playing, as well as music from any nearby musicians. An algorithm then produces a new beat with a complementary rhythm and melody, modelled on the music of jazz greats like John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk.
With this extra artificial intelligence, human and machine combine to make Barnes a kind of "superhuman drummer", Weinberg says.
Sweet, but how does he control it?
Man controls robotic leg using thoughts alone
If you're interested in seeing a similar surgery, a training video is online - http://www.ric.org/research/centers/bionic-medicine/Video/
Warning... uh... its a surgical training video. So, expect to see some of muscle and whatnot that is underneath your skin.
Woman demonstrates Bionic Arm
She's cute. I wonder if she'd give me my first bionic hand job?

I'm ordering a Bionic Wrench tonight. Not only because it looks really handy but because I want to support American Jobs.
No kidding maybe this issue will go viral for them.
I hope so, I buy my appliances from sears because they seem to last the longest. But I have to say I was really upset to see what they did here.

Epic Minecraft Scientific/Graphing Calculator
>> ^deathcow:
I believe these minecraft computers will evolve until they are more powerful than the cpu they are running on. I have just read that they are porting the Apache web server to minecraft currently using cube expressions. It is finally a perfectly object oriented development environment, the first to pass the Jefferson Test of true object orientation - where the objects can be physically picked up and carried around. This is a first. It is pioneering work and eventually your bionic kidneys will probably be running an embedded minecraft operating system.
How is it possible to run a virtual CPU faster than the one its running on? Surely the "real" cpu still has to do all the leg work, the whole thing has to be stored in "real" memory etc. Don't get me wrong, its still amazing to build something like that in a virtual world, but its still really just a simulation.
Unless your saying that one day you could build a minecraft computer that is faster than todays ones...then yah I could see that being possible.

Wow, that looks just awful.
The one about the whale with the bionic tale looks pretty bad too, but at least it has cyborg fish in it.
