This is all good and fun , but really should we not be pioneering technology that caters to the pore and the majority of humans on the planet rather than a technology that will only cater to the super wealthy at first and then maybe the very upper middle western class in 30 years ?
As far as i understand the altitude for this craft would be to low and short lived for scientific use maybe some of the research from this will go into national space programs.
stuff like this is far better than war and entertainment is defiantly an important thing i still feel this for such a small section of privileged society that its just an insult to the majorty of people on earth.

I don't think we live in a world where restricting development for the sake of keeping things fair is viable. Or functional, or reasonable. It certainly is short-sighted.

When bionic eyes and limbs go commercial, when they're superior to what we're born with, it's going to be hideously, prohibitively expensive at first, but then the price will come down as the technology is finessed and further developed. Soon enough, they'll be available to a significant percentage of the population. That's progress.

"Open that box, slave!"

It's amazing that this cat seems to know why it can't open the box. It's disturbing that now they know what the problem is, they will use their passive-aggressive feline wiles to get us to build them bionic opposable thumbs. And we'll do it, too, because you're such a cute little kitty witty kins, aren't you? Yes you are! Who's a cute little kitty kit kit?

Robot Exoskeleton helps man walk after 20yrs in a wheelchair

this is awesome, although kinda funny that one of the features the bionic legs tout is the "ability to sit"

Imagine how hard it would be to get into them if they didn't allow for people with non functioning legs to get into them like he did.

I get what you're saying, it's kind of not what you'd think of..but it's something that if left out would make them something you have to wear all the time. It'd suck sleeping with that battery backpack strapped to you.

eLEGS: first steps in 18 years

Knowing this is part of my job: Berkeley Bionics was founded by UCB faculty. The research was done at UCB. To quote Berkeley Bionics's website:

2005: Berkeley ExoWorks™ is founded by Dr. Homayoon Kazerooni, Russ Angold, Nathan Harding, and other individuals associated with the Berkeley Robotics and Human Engineering Laboratory. The new company enters into a licensing agreement with the university to commercialize innovative exoskeleton technology developed at the lab. ... 2007: Berkeley ExoWorks becomes Berkeley Bionics™.

Berkeley Bionics is a private company, but it is very much an academic venture, founded on academic research in exoskeletons and other robotic efforts.

Did you see the soldiers carrying 200 pound loads with this thing, safely? And the money went to Berkeley, not a defence contractor. The commercialization for civilians followed later, and is encouraged by the DoD.

Berkley Bionics is not Berkley University. It is a private, for profit, company.

Oscar, the bionic cat: part 2

Westy....you have no soul.

lol maby not , i just put people before cats , i mean id probably put cows and goats before cats , its pritty mental that people would not think twice about eating a cow or a goat and when they get ill they just get a bullit through the head , but when it comes to something that "looks cute" we have to treat it like a human.

as i say i get cats are for entertainment and the value comes from what humans r placing on the cat rather than the intrinsic value of the cat.

Hi Westi,
I wuz just thinkin to miself that a dickshunary might be sumthing to put on you burthday wish list.
I dunno maybe its jut me.

I cba to go through a dictionary you could always improve on firefoxes and chrome's spell checking algarithoms.

im sure you use all facits of language perfectly , and are equaly adept at langage at other skills , in the end people have different skill sets , just some are culturaly presumed that everyone should have and there for that opens the dore for people to think they are rightfull to critisize people.

you could allso go about reforming educaion in the uk the methods we use to teach writen language are largely the same as 100 years ago , despite it bing widley known that people have diffrent ways of learning and thus a unified system will not work for eveyone.

personally when it comes to video websites im not to fussed about spelling , so long as things are legable its not that much of an issue.
