Wolverine to the Rescue

Xaielao says...

That's pretty sweet. Wonder how long till they are actually using them in the field, they'll certainly save a lot of lives.

Am I the only one who didn't realize wolverines are that huge? That one was like the size of a fairly big dog. I wild one would most certainly put your life in danger.

Well, don't forget how loud the original Big Dog was. This one is stealthy in comparison.

Awww, its so cute. I just want to pat him.

In all seriousness though, it would have limited use out in the field with all that whirring and noise giving away your exact location.

St. Bernard Too Scared to Climb down the Stairs

Fletch says...

Maybe he just doesn't like basements. Or he doesn't understand Polish.

As @NaMeCaF said, that looks more laddery than stairy, and a big dog like that would really have to commit to go down that thing head first. Maybe if the bald guy showed the dog how "easy" it was by getting on all fours and doing it first...

Kid Attacked by Pet Dog in Street

A10anis says...

Looked like a rottweiler cross. Just another example why dogs initially bred for their ferocity, tenacity, and fighting ability, should be totally banned. Chipping and/or licensing will not work, they will be ignored. And PLEASE don't drag out the old argument that it is the owners fault. Of course, any dog can be made vicious, but these dogs are not bought by owners who want a companion. They have owners who want them for protection, intimidation and status. These dogs are highly strung, impulsive, unpredictable, and give little, if any, warning that they are about to strike. How many adults, children, police, or other dogs, need to be maimed before action is taken? Look at the statistics on the breeds that attack. The latest one shows that guide dog attacks have gone up to 8 a month and the breeds, generally, responsible are fighting dogs. I own a Tamaskan (A big dog derived from sled dog ancestry). There are four bull terriers in my neighborhood and when we pass EVERY one of them strains, snarling and growling to get at him. I pray each time that their leads don't break.

Not that I expect you to concede the matter, but to imply that no gay person EVER in the history of humanity has attacked a Christian because of what they believe is pure sophistry. There are bad actors on both sides of the issue, and since Christians are the big-dog in the US of course there is a lot more bad acting on thier side. I merely point out that there is an ugly underside to the LBGT community, and pin-heads like Savage show it. If the real message is true tolerance - which it SHOULD be - then both sides need to clamp down on thier offenders. Yeah - Christians need to repent and start acting more Christlike too. You can disagree with the gay lifestyle and not have to persecute it.

Ok, I will concede that you have "something approaching a point". I don't condone violence of that type.
And while two wrongs don't make a right, frankly, I can understand where they're coming from.

And just for the record... Even the NSPA and JEA (the hosts of the speech) condemn Savage and pretty much call what he did bullying...

http://studentpressblogs.org/nspa/?p=363

"In his attempt to denounce bullying, Mr. Savage belittled the faith of others – an action that we do not support. Ridicule of others’ faith has no place in our programs, any more than ridicule of the LGBT community would."

They get a round of applause for an ACTUAL apology, as opposed to the load of bull Savage puked up trying to 'nuance' his way out of an apology.

won't even begin to try to explain to you how ironic it is

Perhaps - then you see the point. You took the bait. You see - how is is possible for MY generalized comments about liberals to be hypocritical and ironic, but Savage's comments are 'nuanced'? You can't have it both ways. Just admit it. Savage was a hypocritical, bullying jerk who stuck his foot in his mouth and showed the world he's a bigot. He should just apologize for it. A REAL apology - not the stupid "sorry you don't really understand me..." crap he spit out.

I think she's personally invested in the story.

We ALL should be "personally invested". No apology for mistaken intent can bring you back from the dead if another concerned citizen decides to pop a cap in your ass. This might happen to you. It almost happened to me.

When I was 14 back in the early 80s,I was hanging out with a friend around 4 in the morning in front of his apartment building. We were going fishing and his brother in law was supposed to pick us up. A pair of Big Guys call out to us from up the block, with a VERY Big Dog,and say something like,"What do you guys think you're doing out here?". WE see the guys,we see the dog,we look at each other and we ran inside the apartment building. We head up to his apartment and a few minutes later TWO COP CARS with lights flashing park outside and we hear people get out. We stay quiet and we hear a lot of footsteps walking up the stairs then back down again. Happily, they left and a half hour later we ride off with the brother in law. We weren't doing anything except talking and sitting on the porch, and the whole episode was scarey! I can just imagine how this poor kid felt when he sees Mr Vigilantte chasing him. And I imagine he knew people in authority really don't need a real reason to be nasty, especially to puny minorities.
Why this scumbag is still walking the streets? Who will be the next random victim?

quick honest question: does it have to make so much noise?

also, walked through the park yesterday, and saw a man playing with his 4WD remote control truck, and his big dog running after it, and not being able to catch it, what with its hairpin turns and jumps over rocks, dirt and branches...
now that guy is my hero...

He did address that at the end. The gears are rough as it's only a prototype but there is meant to be a mechanical sound to them.

A dog park — from a dog’s point-of-view

You know, i sort of half notice in slow motion that half of the time, when i'd ordinarily think my dog and another dog were getting a bit frisky, they look like a bit like they're practising but making sure not to connect, or land a bite. Interesting.

Also, @jmd, at the beach near me, loads and loads of all different sorts of dogs get together and play. There's a bit of a roughing every so often, but no appendage loss, and i'm talking all kinds of dogs - couple of pit bulls, doberman, etc.. in my experience there are two times you need to be alert around other dogs - 1) if your dog is feeling threatened, separate it 2) if you see someone with a dog who's carrying it, or got it leashed and acting scared when another dog approaches, the dog is gonna behave the same (and dogs don't often choose the flight response).

My dog is a big, muscular dog. But he's the dog that people let rescue dogs or young puppies play with to get them used to the idea that big dogs are playful, not threatening Yeah, i'm proud of him.. people time their walks to coincide with his.

I believe that a sane dog's temperament is dependent upon the owner, not its size or breed (within reason - i wouldn't immediately assume something like a dingo could be raised domestically).

Check out the caption at the bottom. That dog was just rescued from a puppy mill that was shut down for animal cruelty.

Fair point. Makes me feel better about the dog but worse about the owner.
