After the recent IPCC climate report an old 'Newsroom' clip

StukaFox says...

Not with a P/E of ~370 it won't. A P/E of 370 means TSLA would have to make 370x current earnings to be even remotely close to its current valuation. TSLA can't sell regulatory credits and rely on BTC profit forever; at some point they have to make a profit with their core business.

Protip: they won't because they're going to be eaten alive by the number of other electric car manufacturers coming online who DO know how to run a profitable business.

TSLA is pure BBB- speculative garbage and as soon as the Fed stops holding back the enormous lake of shit that is the US economy right now, reality WILL assert itself, just like in 2000 and 2008.

Biden Has A Lot To Boast About In New Covid Relief Bill

StukaFox says...

Bob, as much as this'll surprise you, I totally agree with what you're saying. The distribution of the stimulus money to couples making up to $150,000 is friggen ridiculous -- and I'm in that category. I will do what I did with the last two checks: give to local charities helping the homeless and communities of color (as much as I hate that term).

The worst part of this is that it sets up a liquidity trap. The Fed can't reduce buying crap debt (that BBB dogshit is at 4% should terrify anyone who understands how debt and the rating agencies work), nor can they allow rates to rise (thus totally screwing responsible savers). This is the cusp of a financial disaster that blew past 1929 on 9/17/19 and is now approaching the cataclysm of the South Seas Company collapsing. As far as I can see, this is a total melt-up in the markets because there's no stable returns and everyone is now in speculation mode.

Were it my call, I would scale the money along income (or non-income) lines: $10k for the lowest incomes, sliding scale from there. I'd also set up government-backed savings accounts that pay 10% for those people and only those people. I'd also pay off/down student debt along the same income scales.

I do not begrudge the wealthy for their wealth. But capitalism can't be a winner-take-all system. We live in a society, and society will always have winners and losers. The least we can do is ease the burden for those at the bottom by taking some from the top. I'm tired of the homeless camps and mentally-ill people wandering the streets of Seattle. They are the least of us and thus should be the ones who get the most help.

Trump Tells Supporters 'You'll Never See Me Again'

newtboy says...

Lol. Similar common phrases = plagiarism?!?

Shall we go over Trump's constant actual plagiarism?
His books, not written by him. Plagiarism.
His contracts, never written by him and rarely read, he cannot even understand them, as he's proven under oath multiple times. Plagiarism.
His speeches, every rational one was written by others, when he uses his own words they always come back to bite him as insane lies. Plagiarism.
His attempts at taking credit for laws signed by Obama, not him. Plagiarism.

Shall we talk about Melania plagiarizing Obama's entire speech word for word, not just one phrase?

From someone who himself has never had an original thought, and who worships someone who also has never had an original thought, it's hilarious hearing you cry about it. So sad, little Bobby. Did bad man make Bobby cwy hurt by repeating a common phrase? At least Joe isn't repeating white supremacist dogma....Trump is..... over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, then denying he knew who he was plagiarizing from, like David Duke.

BTW, since you seem ignorant of the facts here, build back better has been an internationally widely used phrase since at least 2006. Derp.

Woman Refuses to Leave Uber Car

Babymech says...

Are you insane? Being a dissatisfied customer doesn't give you the right to commandeer a place of business - that's some crazy level entitled bullshit. If she doesn't get the service she expects, she can down-rate him, she can ask for her money back, she can make a report to the BBB, and she can sue him / Uber for her money back and whatever damages she can prove. She doesn't get to hijack his place of business.

The implications of what you're saying would completely screw over any sane conflict resolution - if I don't like the movie I can stay in the theater until they show me a better one, if my drink was poorly mixed I get to stay in the bar past closing time, if the milk I bought was bad I get to demand that my complaint is resolved by duel in the Kroger dairy section... no. Just because you bought a service does not mean - even if you were screwed over - you get to decide that the place of business now becomes a place of arbitration for your dispute. Take that shit to the proper channels.

As for screaming at her - he terminated their professional relationship at that point, and it was just two private individuals in conflict. Maybe it's 'smart' to kiss up to assholes, but it seems absurd of you to Monday morning quarterback him given that when we didn't see the ride. If he'd used physical violence in any way that would be a completely different story, but you're allowed to scream at people while waiting for the cops or other help.

Bill Maher: Richard Dawkins – Regressive Leftists

Barbar says...

I think we can agree that they specifics of the religion play a part in motivating some of these bad actors. I'll agree not 100% of the motivation 100% of the time. Definitely for certain acts it is easy to identify worldly grievances.

Imagine two suicide bombing terrorists:
AAA states before hand that his aim is to get himself and his loved ones into paradise.
BBB states that he is prosecuting a grievance against an occupying force that has killed his family and stolen all their land.

Would you be willing to accept AAA's reasoning? Would you be willing to accept BBB's reasoning? If the answers are different, could you explain why?

Since you brought up unusual punishments, let's take stoning people for adultery (which exists in both the Koran and the Bible). When was the last time someone was stoned to death by a group in the U.S., U.K., Australia, or even Malaysia for adultery? Hundreds of millions of Muslims and Christians around the world seem perfectly fine ignoring that part of their holy texts. Just because something that we find distasteful today is written in the holy text doesn't automatically make the religion evil nor does it suddenly force the practioners to behave like savages.

You need to look at the specifics. Take a look at the countries where stoning actually does still occasionally happen and who actually carries it out: Iran, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan. Invariably when it does occur it happens in rural areas where there are people who still actually live like it is the middle ages, with extreme poverty and little education to speak of (other than religious). Sure, the book gave them the idea but it wasn't the only factor in play and to ignore these other factors or the fact that honor killings are in fact common across a wide number of cultures with varying religious backgrounds (even the Romans did it) is what would be truly intellectually dishonest.

As for extremists--they exist in all religions including Christianity. It wasn't a mob of Muslims who attacked Charlie Hedbo--it was two deranged individuals. And while some Muslims might have applauded the attack others denounced it, such as the hunderds of thousands of Chechen protestors who who were upset with the cartoons but didn't think violence was the right response (see article here).

Again, it's a complex issue that can't be boiled down to "Islam = Good/Bad." Islam as practiced by ISIS or Boko Haram? Yeah, there's some dark shit going on there. Islam as practiced by average citizens in Kuala Lumpur or Boston? Not so much.

But again, moderate statements based on reason and facts are not what sell books, generate online clicks, or fill lecture halls to capacity.

That last bit that she mentions really pisses me off. You should not be able to consolidate a local businesses BBB rating into headquarters' rating. If one store is consistently getting 'F's, it's time to fire management, not magically erase wrongdoings via 'consolidation'.
Reminds me of the time the financial sector consolidated toxic assets into triple A securities. That wasn't misleading at all and really worked out well for the economy.

Better Business Bureau is a joke. All you need for a good rating is to respond to a complaint. That's all. Even "We'll give them 10% off installation next time they buy $1500+ of computer accessories." counts as an A++ rating.

I don't think the BBB represents "bumblebee." It's just better to illustrate "mintbbb" with them rather than the letter B.

Issykitty, I couldn't dislike you if I wanted to. I understood where you were coming from even without the added context of your bad day. I hope the owner is prompt in contacting you, but I so doubt that. Do you have the names of the movers who were touching your stuff? Do you have documentation or some form of proof or a photo of the object in question? Paper trail, paper trail, paper trail. Keep a log of the attempts to contact, when they've contacted you. Don't do it over the phone if you can help it, use snail mail or email, anything that can be logged.

Do you have a lawyer friend? Sometimes a strongly worded, threatening legalese type letter works.

In reply to this comment by Issykitty:
Thank you, Prozac. I'm glad you aren't taking things personally. I appreciate your words in friendship. Yeah, I have a mind to call BBB and I am already going to post terrible reviews all over the web about the moving company. I dealt with a customer service rep who acted towards me with zero respect, didn't call me back in over a week, and then I called and fucking told her off. Now I am awaiting a call from the owner. Sorry to hear this has happened to you.

Stepping away from everything, I'm so damn sorry that happened to you. I've been in that position and I never had what was stolen returned--vintage coats, purses, instruments. It made me feel helpless and I hate that more than anything. And it's happening to you when your support network is not there for you, and that's even worse. Take them to small claims court and I know it sounds useless, but complain to the Better Business Bureau. If they do it often, it'll add up and have an effect.

In reply to this comment by Issykitty:
Yeah, and excuse me, but I am kind of upset, probably due to my hubby being out of town at length and being an raging hormonal cauldron. Oh, and I just moved and the movers stole something from me. I probably shouldn't be looking at stupid blogs that piss me off.
