Tattoo - Nice Suit in Progress

ChaosEngine says...

As far as I know, tattoos are still very much taboo in Japan. They are very much associated with the yakuza. There's a growing trend for what's called "fashion tattoos", but nothing like this.

If you're a westerner and you go to Japan with a tattoo, you need to cover it up to use a public bath.

It's a shame because the yakuza style tattoos are really beautiful, even if they have an ugly history.

HowToBasic - How To Make Ramen

noims says...

Not sure I'd be able to make this all that quickly, but I agree it would take longer to clean up.

I do have a sudden inexplicable craving for noodles, though. It is pretty late, so I might just have a bath.

Vancouver BeeGees Fever

Homeopathy Explained – Gentle Healing or Reckless Fraud?

notarobot says...

For a while in history, there have been some doctors who would suggest treating a fever with an icy bath. You know, to bring the fever down. What we know now is that raising the body's temperature actually helps the immune system fight off infections. So, if someone has a fever treating the symptom (hot) with the opposite (cold) is usually terrible idea.

What do we do at home when we have a fever? Warm soup or tea. This makes it easier for the body to keep its temperature up. Treating like with like.

Is there some example of where "treat like with like" is useful and insightful? I mean, all I can think of is immunotherapy for allergies.

2 black dudes-1 iconic metal song

MilkmanDan says...

Nice sift @enoch!

I discovered these guys a while ago on YT also. I don't usually care about watching reaction / review videos, but these guys are great. They are so enthusiastic and honest that it is almost like hearing the songs again for the first time myself.

Their reactions to Holy Wars (Megadeth), Master of Puppets, and One (both Metallica) are awesome for the thrash lover in me. And for other stuff, their vids for Killing in the Name (RATM), Digital Bath (Deftones), and Lateralus (Tool) are also all great.

Liquid Sand Hot Tub

newtboy says...

Probably, on top of eyes and ears packed with sand.
I thought it looked like a great new spa treatment, full body exfoliation bath, once they solve the flying sand issue.

This is nothing to scream about. Now if you had video of me while camping when I took my bathing suit off a line and put it snugly on only to discover about 500 earwigs inside it.

Why Should You Read James Joyce's "Ulysses"

ulysses1904 says...

Yes, chapter 5 is the "Lotus Eaters" chapter, with Bloom at the Turkish Baths at the end.

My favorite chapters are 15 "Circe" in the red-light district where Bloom and Daedalus are visited by apparitions, both euphoric and demonic.

And Chapter 17 "Ithaca" the one written entirely in a question and answer format:

What act did Bloom make on their arrival at their destination?
At the housesteps of the 4th Of the equidifferent uneven numbers, number 7
Eccles street, he inserted his hand mechanically into the back pocket of his
trousers to obtain his latchkey.

Was it there?
It was in the corresponding pocket of the trousers which he had worn on
the day but one preceding.

Why was he doubly irritated?
Because he had forgotten and because he remembered that he had reminded
himself twice not to forget.

My mid-term paper was a super close reading of one small section (I think it is in chapter 4) where Bloom is in the tub, contemplating how his dick and balls look like a lily pad as they are floating in front of him in the tub.

Japan's Ominous Dancing Cats and the Disaster That Followed

notarobot says...

Minimata disease was largely exposed by photographer W. Eugene Smith. The Chisso Corporation did not like being made famous for their business practice. Several employees attacked Smith in 1972. Smith survived, but never really recovered. He left Japan in 1974 to teach journalism at the University of Arizona. He died a in 1978, aged 59.

His most famous image of the environmental disaster was Tomoko Uemura in Her Bath.

You can see the rest of his images of Minimata at Magnum Photos.
