I'm inclined to believe most of the audio is not of them actually playing, which is unfortunate. I'd have liked to hear their actual performance.

I was initially just surprised at the sound quality for that kind of outdoor setting with very little ambient and crowd noise. When the synchronized singing (from the crowd or "plants" in the crowd with their lip movement not matching up? um) became clearer, that's what really made me suspicious.
The acoustic quality sounds much more to me like a music hall than outdoors, as well.

Did you make it to around 2:10 in? He starts actually playing it as an instrument at that point rather than just making ambient sounds.

Assume A=1m^2 of t=5cm thick glass, thermal conductivity k=1W/(m*K), glass to be kept at a constant 5°C with an average ambient temperature (averaged over the whole winter season day and night) of 0°C => temperature difference DT=5°C (also no salt to help, original promo video claimed that as an advantage of these things), you'll need roughly

A*k*DT/t = 100W of constant power (day and night for the entire winter!) to keep the tiles at 5C (i.e. 100W/m^2 of tile).

There's NO WAY you'll produce that much power per square meter on average (day and night!) in the northern winter (!), meaning the tiles would soon be covered by that thin hard layer of compacted snow that you get, rendering them basically worthless in the winter.

There's also a negative feedback mechanism: if you don't produce enough power to melt all the snow or ice, some of the area gets blocked, which reduces power output even further.

I can agree with some of that.

You are correct that they reuse elements from other games and bring them together and polish them. Is that not creative for some reason? It's like saying that Sonic Youth was not creative since they used concepts from No-Wave, Glenn Branca and labelmates on SST, polished it and made something of it.

One thing that has always pissed me off about people trying to piss on Blizzard is they never even consider the ambient sound, the music and the environmental sound. I've spoken to people about it and it flies over their heads - "I listen to Rammstein when I play WoW"... There were parts in Wrath of the Liche King that sounded nearly straight off "On Land" but done in their own fantastic way in a fantastic world.

Not to mention the art direction and style in all of their games is very satisfying, weirdly psychedelic art. They blend all of the elements far better than most companies but actually make games out of them, grindy games but still games with many details and many elements. I definitely wouldn't say they are not creative. And as much as I liked Guild Wars 2 initially after a couple of months it was forgotten about completely,

Speaking of ex-Blizzard employees I liked the Torchlight series, both 1&2 were far better than D3 in art direction and gameplay but still became boring fairly quick.

I want this to be real but my instinct screams fake. The sound quality is a problem. If they just had hidden mics then there would be a lot of ambient noise but they're so clear it's like they're wearing lapel mics. What do you think?

That's very true. The simple fact that because the pressure of the tire off the rim is going to be normalized with the atmospheric pressure, even if you seated the tire back on manually, you'd have a zero pressure delta between outside the tire and inside. For a tire to run properly, usually you have to have a difference of approximately 30 psi. So yea, case closed. THANKS!>> ^messenger:

Clearly, the only reason this inflates the tire at all is the heat. Here's a thought experiment that disproves the "stays inflated" myth:
Consider that you need to have much more gas inside the tire than outside for it to stay inflated at ambient temperature. Before lighting the gas, there's the same pressure inside and outside the tire because the two areas are contiguous. When she lights the fire, the gas inside expands rapidly, and lots of it escapes, so now, while there's a greater volume of gas inside the tire than before, this is due to a greatly reduced density, so there's actually less gas inside than before, which is why there was a vacuum. Using heat, there will always be less gas inside than before. It's not even worth experimenting. The only way something like this could work is with compressed gas, which you certainly wouldn't want to do because that would blow the tire up if it were lit on fire.
I think there are self-inflating tires already on the market that have compressed gas cartridges built in, triggered by a sensor that fixes flats by spraying a sealant inside, then lots of pressurized gas, probably CO2. They don't use fire.>> ^rottenseed:
So the limiting reactant would be the starter fluid and the air in the tire. Oxygen to be more exact. Because you want enough forces to seat the tire, but not so much it removes all of the gases from the tire, maybe they should have tried less starter fluid. If that's depleted in the reaction quickly leaving enough energy to seat the tire, but also enough oxygen left over from the reaction, you might end up with a working tire.
Somebody please double check my thought process, but I think it's definitely worth more experimentation.

I know it's boring to interview in a studio between ferns... but if you can't afford any sound engineering it's a good idea to pick somewhere without overwhelming ambient noise. On someone's couch and recorded with a bloody phone wouldn't have looked great, but would have been a lot more pleasant to listen to (which is the important thing here).
