People are freaking out about this Janet Yellen speech

newtboy says...

Wow! I've had something just like that happen to me in public speaking class while giving a speech. It was like my brain and mouth shut down at the same time, repeatedly. I always put it down to severe nerves, public speaking being a phobia of mine (that's a big part of why I took the class), but perhaps there was more going on than anyone realized.
I'm glad she got help.

The Last Ever Top Gear

Um...when you make derogatory 'jokes' about other races, it's racist.
When you make nothing BUT derogatory 'jokes' about other races, you're a racist.
I love Clarkson, but come on buddy, he's definitely acted racist the entire run of the show. I always put him down to being a character...kind of like Colbert but low brow...but that doesn't make his actions any less racist or less offensive to those he intended to offend with them....it just made his racism funny because it came from a ridiculous idiot.

Simply, racism can be funny, but that does not make it less racist.

A10anis said:

You are mistaking stupidity for racism. If you have never used a derogatory epithet, even once in your life, then well done. But I am sure you have thought of one; we all have. Clarkson, on many occasions, does not temper his speech with forethought. However, his attempts at humour do not qualify him as a racist. True racists hide in the shadows or stick with like-minded people. Oh, and btw, his Jaguar-toilet comment was funny. I imagine that because I thought so I am, based on your criteria, also a racist.

"Wild is the Wind" by David Bowie

I saw him on that 1978 tour in Houston. I was actually hoping for a repeat of his Station to Station tour from 1976, his show at Madison Square was amazing that year. But he changed it up, played songs from Low and Heroes with a large ensemble of musicians, including Adrian Belew. He always put on a good show.

Stormsinger said:

I was going to toss out some time around his "Low" tour, based on his dress. At least, this is virtually identical to when I saw him perform. I was kind of let down at first, having expected/anticipated a Ziggy Stardust kind of show.

But only at first...he quickly convinced me that appearance means little with Bowie.

Redneck Groom Fails His Wedding Entrance

Not at all. Just watch any monster truck freestyle competition and you'll see clearly that even with the best equipment and engineers, they break nearly every time...except for the trucks that score less than 10 out of 30 points. If you aren't breaking some stuff, you aren't flying high enough or hitting that wall of cars hard enough. Simple as that. True enough, they often leave the big jump(s) for right at the end of their time, or even after time's up, knowing it may end with them driving a tricycle or worse....and then again, sometimes that doesn't slow them down much. It all depends on the truck's design and the driver.
When I did off road racing, I always put the sentiment another way. "If you aren't bleeding, you aren't really trying." I had my rear tire/wheel pass me numerous times after a hard jump. It just happens. Even chromemoly is only a little stronger than regular steel, and stub axles only come so big. It's one of those things where you just have to make the weak point an easy fix, because there's always going to be a weak point.

...but if you were talking about his 4x4 truck, not monster trucks....never mind! :-)

Stormsinger said:

And if your truck breaks every time you drive it, you're a piss-poor engineer. Get some training, and learn how to properly design your equipment. You'll get more out of it for less money.

It would always put a big smile on my face when an Irish acquaintance would call me or other friends cunts. Just so fun when said by the Irish.

I've always put metal in the microwave. Downside is that it gets really hot and makes food around the metal taste bad. I'm sure if you filled one to the brim with metal spoons and some chunks of an engine block, it would fuck some shit up. But anything in large doses will screw with any system. Dependent factors are edge cases.

chingalera said:

Dude, no way! Metal in microwave shall most surely fuck up the interior and perhaps start a fire or cause a chort....dependent factors include duration of course, metal introduced, the unit's manufacturing material, and amperage.
The more amperage the better yer chance o' damage.
Just dig the flashy-flamey dance when he turns it on...it gets better!

Man of Steel - Trailer 2

Yeah, Tony Stark and Clark Kent are two very different individuals. Clark always puts others first, to the point that he won't use all his strength and power to its full extent, because he knows he could cause more damage than the villain he's trying to stop. Yes, he's a boy scout, but there's a bit of a lesson in a story about an alien who tries to act more compassionate towards humans, than most humans.

Also, he's THE superhero. period. I don't care if they make his powers and villains not realistic. I'm so fucking tired of lex luthor. He's a great villain, but geez, give it a rest already. There's a bunch of other great villains in the superman lore, and it's about time we see him be matched physically and not just intelectually. Zod is one, Darkseid is another. I would also love to see Doomsday or Brainiac.

Yes, it plays on FX, the channel that requires you to pay.
It ALSO will be playing on Fox Channel, the regular network channel, that you don't have to pay for.

It's been scheduled on our local FOX channel for the last week--it's never played though. Whenever I tune in to see it they always put something else on.

I remember a little trivia thing from this brain teaser site. The salt and pepper shakers in a restaurant are usually in the middle. If you take one, use it, and place it more on the other person "side" of the table rather than the middle, they will start to get irritated...they might not even know why. So while we might "behave" more in crowds, that doesn't mean it is good for us. Violence is a good measure to take into account, but so is total happiness and suicide. Perhaps living in a city with access to medicine, cars, and wealth can't make you as happy as marring the girl next door you grew up with your whole live. I can't say, but it is food for thought.

I always put the salt and pepper on the other side of the table so that my friends don't have to reach for it. This might explain some confrontations we've had.

Hooray!!! What a great example for them to set for their child. I used to work at a fast food restaurant that captured mice on sticky papers and I used olive oil to get them off and then put them in a box with a bit of food and then released them in a field. I don't know how anyone could let them die like that but it happens all the time. It's so sad. I hope this video may encourage people to be kind to little animals. promote

Good point! No more walking on the grass and crushing the ants people!

Thankfully I've never had ants in my home, but I always put the spiders outside. :

I will treat you as I do the spiders. ;

Haha! Kidding! You know you're my favorite ant.
