The best way to defeat terrorism.

Okay Everyone, We Need To Have A Chat About Snuff & Iraq (Sift Talk Post)

MarineGunrock says...

Why, thank you Raven. This sure is well-needed.

My vote is to have things like the aforementioned video be permissible. I move that a video is permissible so long as there are no dead bodies shown. But then you need to draw the line on that as well, because then you would have a debate on things like this video of an insurgent blowing himself up. No, there is no dead body or flying pink matter, but the video exists to be viewed for one reason: See an insurgent get blowed into Kibbles & Bits.
My argument is this:
If it exists for viewing of a guy/people getting killed, then it is *snuff.
However, if you can take something else from it, like I did from the other one, then it's OK. What did I get from that other than seeing upwards of 16 troops getting killed?

1) It shows the absolute terror that is caused by a simple ten mile drive to get some freaking mail. Every minute I was outside the wire going somewhere I feared for my life. Most Americans, nay, most people in the world don't know what it's like to be in constant fear for your life, no matter where you are, no matter the time of day.

2) When the news says "A roadside explosion/IED killed ___ troops today" they just mention it in passing. When I first saw that video, my heart dropped into the pit of my stomach. It reminded me that my comrades are still over there while I'm sitting all comfy on my chair in the civilian world discussing them. When people (Americans) see this video, I think it drives a few points home.

To the Dems : STFU about spending money on armor. They obviously need it. To the Reps: Hurry the fuck up and get my brothers out of that mess. Establish a specific goal. A tangible one. Accomplish it and get the fuck out.

Not necessarily what I consider to be snuff, but what VideoSift defines as snuff. If there are any "gunshots and snipershots" shown on the sift that just show someone dying, they could very well also deserve a blow from the discard axe of fury.

As far as my video goes, if your was cut off before the explosion, it would not be snuff because it doesn't show someone dying, but then it would probably not get published (just like mine).

Out of curiosity, if you don't think this falls under the FAQ's definition of "snuff" what do you think does?

Whut! Aww c'mon you consider that snuff? There were no blood / gore or anything! And that explosion could've been edited in as far as I'm concerned. Also there are videos of gunshots and snipershots in Videosift and they seem to be much more violent than my submission.

Plus, how is my submission so different from yours besides just the explosion?: http://www.videosift.com/video/Insurgents-Taking-Only-Seconds-to-Plant-a-Roadside-IED

Bawwwww you're harsh dude

I would have thought about motioning a repeal to this decision, but I think it wouldn't do well in the queues anyways.

Legacy0100, please review the posting guidelines on the faq. This violates the no snuff policy.

Very Powerful VBIED, Truck Explodes Near Camp Taji, Iraq

jonny says...

set up cameras to record this kind of stuff because they are the ones that get off on it.

Then it is, by definition, snuff - filming of a death for entertainment purposes.

I think it should go, because as lucky points out, it will encourage stuff like this. In other words, even though this particular vid doesn't show a human being torn in half, it might as well have done so for the effect it has.

I've yet to see a local newspaper that actually lists pictures and names of every single American that dies over there.

It's not a newspaper, but the Newshour on PBS has a silent tribute to every soldier KIA at the end of their broadcast. I agree with gorgon that this does not tell us what's happening over there. There are many sources of information about what is happening, and random vids of people getting blown up is not one of them.

I'm surprised the Zapruder film would have been denied a place here, as it is clearly more than random violence. It's a historical document.

Seems to be a pro-islam block of sifters that will only upvote videos that spin islam in a good way, yet don't want any critical, yet true, negative portrayals of islam to get to the front page. I'm tired of hearing how misunderstood islam is, and how I and others just don't understand. The truth is you can't/won't police your own, and wherever there are groups of muslims (US, France, Britain, Somalia, your-3rd-world-country-of-choice), there are maniacal fuckwits who think they are supposed to kill westerners/infidels, and who think they are supposed to bring islam to the whole world by any means. I'm fuckin' sick of hearing about how islam is a peaceful religion, and that we just don't understand. I understand what I read in the paper and see on the TV/Internet every day. I understand the video I just watched of 4 people being wrapped in a sheet and buried up to their waste and stoned to death while hundreds watching screamed "allah akbar" (and the MANY similar videos I've seen). If you still think I just don't get it, then I say it is YOU who just don't get it. You can proselytize to me 'til you are blue about how wonderful and peaceful and misunderstood islam is, and I won't hear another fuckin' word. I'm tired of it. Take your quran and shove it, because I no longer fucking care how YOU interpret it.
