I think it's a fantastic piece of woodworking. Very clever design. The intent is to hide guns from thieves that break-in to his home (presumably when he isn't there, otherwise this guy would shoot them).

I also think he needs more books and less guns.

It wouldn't be too hard to add-in a hidden combo lock or key lock for customers that want an extra level of protection. If there are kids in the house, then every gun should have a trigger-lock (which kids might find the key anyway).

Main disadvantage I see of this design versus a gun safe would be that this is in no way fireproof or waterproof.

First of all, it wasn't discrimination. He didn't refuse to serve them because they are gay. He refused to make them a gay wedding cake. Little bit of a difference there. The nastiness that comes out of people when they think they have an excuse to attack Christians is the real story. Immediately after the chick-fil-a controversy you had so much vile filth posted in comments and message boards, even celebrity tweets, viciously maligning Christians. That's just fine with people, but it's not okay that a man will only bake heterosexual wedding cakes. It's a hypocritical double-standard.

If I do something or say something wrong to a person, I ask forgiveness from both my God and the person I did it to, as I did with you. The great commandments are to love the Lord thy God with all of your heart, all of your soul, all of your mind, and all of your strength, and also, to love thy neighbor as yourself. I think a Christian who does something wrong should do what is reasonable to reconcile with people who they have wronged.

As far as the cake goes, the man didn't refuse service because the men were gay. He was more than happy to make them a cake, just not a gay wedding cake. I don't see how you're inserting the word hatred into the discussion. The man has a sincere conviction that gay marriage is wrong and he doesn't want to participate in it. The question really being posed is, is this unchristian not to make this cake?

For one, Jesus didn't tell us not to judge, He told us not to judge hypocritically. That is what is meant by the log in someones eye versus the splinter in the other. Christians are to judge all things to see if they line up to the word of God. Now, would you think it is wrong for a Pastor to refuse to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony? I don't think you could say it was unchristian for the Pastor to refuse to do it, on the basis of his moral conviction. Well, this baker also had a moral conviction about supplying the cake for the ceremony. His conviction is to make wedding cakes for heterosexual weddings only because he believes gay marriage is immoral. I really don't see anything wrong with this; it isn't loving your neighbor to help someone along in their sin. Neither do I think he should be forced to violate his conscience by lending his reputation to something he knows God disapproves of.

I remember this one time in the Tenderloin of SF I was at a corner store of the infamous sixth street. I was walking out of the store when a bummed out crack head came rushing around the corner. He hit my beer as he walked by, not on purpose but because he was fucked up. He yelled, "watch where you're fucking going!" And I yelled "YOU watch where YOU'RE FUCKING going". And then all of a sudden I had all of these fucking idiots coming out of the woodwork at me. So, I kept walking and they kept following.

I crossed the street and I don't remember what I said but one of the guys just came up to me and quickly arranged a razor blade to my neck. And I just kept saying "DO IT, DO IT, Let's see you do it!"

I'm not sure if that is the way to handle it but it freaked the guy out.

@alcom I'm not really taking some hardcore stance on this. Mostly I feel like the right conclusion to come to from this video is that it's hard to say whether this is right or wrong having only really heard one side of the story, and seeing only this little slice of their lives.

Personally, I don't really understand people who feel the need to rush to the father's defense. At a minimum, it seems to me like he let his emotions get the better of him, and did a series of inadvisable things without really thinking through what the consequences would be. Like, say, having the whole world come out of the woodwork to give their opinion on his parenting. He's supposed to be the adult here, and this didn't strike me as adult behavior.

All I said in my original comment was how I'd react if my dad had done this to me. I'm happy for them if they've worked things out and have largely gone back to normal now. Good to know not all families are like mine, where people just retreat into their corners and never accept that the other person might've had some legitimate cause to be upset.

I've noticed people who get targeted are those in opposition to a certain ideological position. Specifically the left. And at one point I was part of the bandwagon. Those in the majority band together and pick on people all the time, but let one person on the other side make a colorful comment and all the sanctimonious assholes come out of the woodwork to play the victim. OK. Of course VideoSift is wildly biased. It's influenced strongly by the people who have collected here, the general makeup of the Internet -- and the ideology of its founders. As biased as it is, we want to be fair and tolerant to minority views, different cultures, religions and nationalities.

That's why what you say and do on VideoSift matters. I feel this every day. Even a simple comment upvote by me can cause real hurt. I'm sorry I upvoted DFT's comment. I honestly thought it was some good-natured banter between you two. It's hard to tell on the Internet. That's why I try to choose my words carefully. And (usually) even choose my upvotes carefully. My bad on that one.

Calling a German citizen a Nazi is also bad. I don't think you would do it at a dinner party to someone you just met. I'd ask you to leave my house. It's no more acceptable here. I read the comment that provoked your response. That was a little insensitive too, though as an American I would take that as good-natured ribbing. It's kind of funny.

Your response - and unwillingness to apologise for it - shows a lack of empathy and emotional maturity. You can definitely shout down the drainpipe here - and suitably, no one will give a shit.

And my comment, which I refuse to apologize over because IMO wasn't that terrible and probably fitting, wasn't unprovoked. I'm no nationalist, but he (as always) mocked the culture of the US in this comment. It didn't bother me as much as my comment bothered him, but so what? In a not-so-subtle way I was cluing him into his nation's recent culture. Of killing Jews. Which is what Germany did within the last century. People shouldn't throw stones in glass houses, that's all. If he wants to play the nationalist card, then let him be a big boy about it. They may not like their recent "culture" but I don't particularly like ours either. But then again I'm not being a Nazi about others mentioning it.
