ADSR Energy from Thorium

GeeSussFreeK says...

>> ^Spacedog79:

The ADSR or "Accelerator Driven Sub-critical Reactor" is unfortunately a massive waste of time. Why not build a properly configured LFTR reactor and it does just the same thing and you don't need to build 3 large particle accelerators to do it.

I agree in one sense, but in another, the chemistry of the LFTR might prove impossible to solve (though this is hardly even a fear atm), so divesting in a "less" effective way to fission isn't a complete waste. Also, you could use this just to breed thorium which would be handy if you had thousands of thorium generators to start up (you need a good deal of U233 to start the reaction as Thorium is only fertile, not fissionable). This also would be a good way to burn up waste before we get a highly functional LFTR's with the ability to siphon in fission products. In the end, no road should be left uncharted when the end result maybe the salvation of the energy crisis and a life like star trek

I plan to dedicate most of my laymen efforts over the next couple of months in learning more about fission for use in determining if I want to drop my life for what is it now and pursue nuclear physics. Pretty sharp turn from where I am now, but I almost feel morally compelled to do so.

Zero Punctuation: Top 5 of 2011

NetRunner says...

I like how when Portal 2 came out he eviscerated it with faint praise, but now that the year's over it turns out to be his favorite thing that came out all year.

And it pains me to say this, but he was right on both counts.

2011 fucking blew. GoW 3 was a letdown, so was Uncharted 3, so was AC: Revelations (which didn't reveal jack shit), all of which I'd been very much looking forward to.

I hear that other people really love Skyrim, but given that I almost instantly lost interest in both Oblivion and Fallout 3 when I played them, I'm just gonna save my money and not bother.

And I'm with Yahtzee about MW3/BF3, sorta. I don't really think they deserve to be singled out as garbage, they're just totally and completely not my cup of tea.

Here's hoping 2012 will be a bit less of a letdown!

Zero Punctuation: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

I have to agree with NetRunner. But I haven't finished the singleplayer yet. Still, it's Uncharted. There's no going wrong. Definitely a must buy. And the boat and place scenes are some of the best things ever produced in a videogame.

Haven't gotten around to Uncharted 3 yet -- any spoilers here?

Not really, he just mentions that the story's thematic framework shares a lot of similarity to Uncharted 1&2, only he says it in a much, much less diplomatic and more humorous way.

My own $0.02 on the game is that it's definitely not as good as Uncharted 2 was. I expected and wanted "more of the same" and got it, but I sorta feel like all the various elements (shooting, puzzles, set pieces, story, etc.) just didn't mesh together nearly as well as they did in Uncharted 2.

Still a great game, but this time around it's probably not going to win "Game of the Year" from anyone. My guess is Arkham City is gonna clean house though.

I'm surprised he didn't make mention of the number 3 in this review.

After all, 2011 is the season of shooter number three:

Gears of War 3
Modern Warfare 3
Battlefield 3
Resistance 3

We even have Uncharted 3, though technically that's action/adventure despite it being largely a 3rd person shooter...

What's the Parappa reference? Is it the thing that moves out of view from behind the dogs just as the soldiers enter?
>> ^Shepppard:
So, this video makes reference to:
CoD (or, generic WWII shooters), Twisted Metal, Parappa the Rappa, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy, Killzone, Uncharted, God of War, Portal, Infamous, Tekken, MLB/NFL generic games, Metal Gear, Modern Warfare 3, Dead Space, Bioshock, Hitman, Resistance and Assassins Creed.
Not sure if the bartender is supposed to be from somewhere, though.

Nope, that's the Mk.II or III, whichever is in MGS4, the parappa is on the wall behind the chick in the booth, it's just a crappy little drawing, but it's a dog in a red hat with a purple shirt.

Pause at 31 seconds, just before it switches back to the two soldiers, he's on the right side.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Mass Effect 3
Uncharted 3
Duke Nukem Forever
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Crysis 2
Brink
The Witcher 2
Diablo 3
Rage
L.A. Noire
Gears of War 3
The Last Guardian
Journey

If you have two controllers then any of the Lego games: Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, etc. They're a hit with the chicks, and they're enjoyable for us, too.

Uncharted 2 is an awesome game, but if you're playing she'd have to be spectator. Bioshock, Heavy Rain and Red Dead Redemption are games that are great for spectators, as well.

Or just buy games you like and tell her to go crochet a doily or something.
