Father-daughter purity balls: can it get any creepier?

Abstinence until marriage is a good thing, for one it gets rid of STDs and accidental pregnancies. Teen pregnancy and STD rates are out of control. No one makes good decisions when they're that age, especially not about sex.
Second, fornication is just plainly a sin, and for the reason that sex is a spiritual marriage between two people. You are spiritually joined to whomever you have sex with, forever.
The commentary here is what is disturbing..maybe you reprobates can't imagine giving up your carnal lusts because its what you're living for, but that lifestyle is meaningless, sad and no better than what animals do.

The problem with abstinence only education is that if kids fall off the band wagon (which they do... though not all) then they're much more at risk of teen pregnancy or contracting diseases. You said it yourself: "No one makes good decisions when they're that age, especially not about sex." Abstinence-only education means that when they do make a bad decision the results are worse.>> ^shinyblurry:

Rick Perry Insists Abstinence Education Works

bareboards2 says...

Perry is right. Abstinence does work when it is applied.

The question should be -- is avoiding teen pregnancy a goal? Or is the goal to try to prevent teen sex?

He just kept repeating -- we don't want teen sex.

Papier cul.

90 Pregnancies in One High School

Reefie says...

I didn't like that question from the interviewer, asking if the teenagers were making pacts to get pregnant. Next he'll be trying to paint a picture of these girls wanting to best UK teen pregnancy rates (the highest in Western Europe).

My next piece of opinion will probably result in me being torn a new one, but ahh to hell with it - it's about time we in the Western world started taking China's policy of 1 child per family seriously, plus the necessary education to make our younger members of society aware of why such steps will help us all in the long run.

CA Lawmaker Duvall Caught on Mic Bragging about Graphic Sex

Crosswords says...

Oh please, not this moronic drivel again. Someone's teenager does something and they're not allowed to speak out against it? That's disingenuous, and you know it.

I'm not saying she can't speak out against teen pregnancy, I'm saying its hypocritical (or at the very least ignorant) of her to support abstinence only education when the evidence for its ineffectiveness was her own daughter. If Bristol's pregnancy were an isolated incident among people and communities that support abstinence only education I would agree that it's 'moronic' to suggest Palin is being hypocritical for preaching abstinence only. However, its not an isolated incident, and there is evidence the teen pregnancy rate is higher in areas where abstinence is stressed over other forms of Contraception and STD control.

Further more, the very fact teens don't always do what their parents say supports sexual education that isn't limited to abstinence. If they know how to properly us a condom, or that douching with coke or pulling out aren't effective contraception, maybe when they fail to abstain they can still practice safe safe.

That's rich, being lectured about safe sex by a rep of the demographic responsible for 50% of all AIDS cases.
Abstinence-only is a failure? Seems relatively new by comparison How many decades has there been "liberal" sex education in government schools? Results: 1 in 4 teen girls has an STD, half of all Black teens have herpes. FAIL.
Liberal "knowledge" always costs a little extra, as it's designed to undermine parental authority and encourage irresponsibility ("Don't worry, SOCIETY will pay for your bastard!") while downplaying real consequences.

You seem to be obsessed with the whole "every man for himself" philosophy of capitalism, but you have missed every single chapter on how this relies on informed citizens to actually work.

The entire concept of making a true free choice relies on our knowledge. Think about it: If you were asked if you with rather swim in water or swim in lava, and you had no idea what water or lava was, there is no point in making a choice in the first place, your "choice" would be no better or worse than after the flip of a coin.

If you really want people to fend for themselves, then why should we deliberately OMIT information in their sex education? Would you rather perhaps, that some official from the government should be sitting around the beds of 16 year-olds telling them not to have sex? Maybe we should have a more theocratic state, and go all-out on this whole "abstinence" idea, and just do like Saudi Arabia or Iran, and demand burka's and veils for all women, and threaten youth with 40 lashes for sex outside marriage?

Seriously, what is your real alternative? Do you like freedom, or do you like tax cuts and religion. You see, you cant have it both ways.

The statistics show quite clearly that when kids are given a proper sex education, abortions, STD's and teen pregnancies go DOWN, compared to this "abstinence only" bullshit.

On March 9, 2006, the USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 was signed into law. It amended the process for interim appointments of U.S. Attorneys, written into the bill by Arlen Specter during his chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee.[18] The change allowed the Bush Administration to appoint interim U.S. attorneys without term limits, and without confirmation by the Senate. The Bush administration used the law to place at least eight interim attorneys into office in 2006.

There's ungodly amount more of really piss-poor judgment.

Hillary's Eloquent Response to Republican on Woman's Rights

"Houston, We Have A Solution" - Texas Secession Ad

kagenin says...

Let's just imagine what would happen to Texas if they were to secede.

I'm guessing that the US Pentagon wouldn't exactly entertain the notion of their military hardware and soldiers on Texas soil, and that they would try to get it back. Assuming that's successful, it would leave Texas unarmed and naked to the world. Sure, the populace may be packing heat, but the drug cartels wreaking havoc south of the border have bigger, more explosive heat. Once they move in, the "Nation" of Texas would deteriorate like so many South American nations ruined by drug trade. No doubt, some leftist Hugo Chavez-esque dictator would fill the power vacuum, and provide free health care and birth control, and subsidized education to the masses. Teen pregnancy drops, average household incomes rise.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this scenario. Cut 'em loose!
