System Of A Down - Chop Suey - Live Piano Cover

This is not a piano. It's an electronic keyboard. If it has a plug it is NOT a piano.>> ^harpom:
Excellent, amazing and brilliant. I love how the song translates to the piano so well.
Chop Suey is a hard kick ass song, yet it plays so well on the piano. Sounds like a cross between Mozart and Beethoven.

LOL. Whatever. The instrument is made to sound like a piano. Sad that you have to go through life taking everything so seriously.

Everyone has their pet peeves, mine is calling pieces of music songs (which she actually does). When people are raised with a musical background minor things like that are just little quirks that make us who we are.

Surge of racist remarks from GOP candidates

You spelled Bigot wrong in the tags.
Ron Paul non-racist quotes appear about 2 min in and continues... and Cenk's issue? He purports that Ron Paul says we should have anarchy. What a wierd thing to say.
Really? A vietnam era Air Force flight surgeon, physician and statesmen just wants the system to fall down on us ... yea.
ok.
so why does he fight so hard to change things in a legitimate, lawful fashion? to trick you all?Keep talking but really... research

Did you even watch the video? Cenk says that Ron Paul is a black-and-white libertarian. He says that what Ron Paul wants is almost anarchy, and he's right. Libertarianism shares many of the same ideals as anarchism. Problem is that it just doesn't work in the real world, where most people understand that we are constantly faced with "lesser of two evils" decisions, and that one cannot blithely apply a simple good/bad proposition to everything.

As for your videos, the first one is Ron Paul claiming he is electable and can win the 08 GOP nomination. I think he's pretty self-evidently wrong on that one. I would be willing to bet good money that he won't win this time either.

New Air Traffic Control System at Crossroads

westy says...

I'm not so sure using satalites for this is the best idea , given that a solar storm can take them all out in one go and if you have thousands of planes dependent on them with no other system things could get sticky.

( maby gps are within the van allen belt or u can protect them , I always thought gps had to be very high so they can be geo stationary)

At least with current air traffic if ground radar went down its not that huge a issue to just direct through communication , and I think its unlikely that a whole ground radar system would go down in one go.

also the air polotion from planes is pretty bad unless we can make planes that are far more fuel efficient (although planes are better than cars MPG Per Person )then I don't really want to see 3x more planes in the air , I think we should be using hybrid blimp planes that fly at around 150-200mph I think that's probably the future of air transport.

other than that having really tight defined flight paths that are maybe computer controlled and reconfigure to avoid things and reduce holding time would be really cool.

Deepak Chopra & Sanjay Gupta Discuss Death on Larry King

LukinStone says...

And how about that ridiculous word play?

The opposite of death isn't life, it's birth? Okay, but that just means the opposite of "Life" (the state of being alive) isn't the exact moment of your death, but everything that comes after that "arbitrary moment."

And, I'm not poo-pooing the idea that how we think of death isn't completely accurate. It makes sense to me that, depending on the cause of death, different systems will shut down at different rates. And as our abilities and technology advance, we'll be able to "fix" or at least slow these shutdowns. I don't see how that suggests there is anything after death.

Also, upon looking into claims of "remembering" things that occur after brain death, I've always been able to find a competent neurosurgeon's response, or an obvious bias, that discounts supernatural phenomena.

Trancecoach, do you have a specific case you are referring to with this "Hard Problem"? Seriously, I'm interested.

Joker said it best: "The dead know only one thing: It's better to be alive."

Texting Fountain lady, Suing mall for her own dumb actions

Sagemind says...

Apart with all the embarrassment and humility this caused. She knows she made a goof. She's embarrassed and feels foolish. So what.

Now, the video is a whole different issue. I'm not a lawyer nor will I pretend to be but this has got to raise a few eyebrows. This video turns a silly mistake into a gigantic problem.

It's the whole "Smile, you're on public camera" issue. It's a Big Brother thing.
What do the invisible people behind all these cameras do with the footage of you (a private citizen) as you go to the mall, walk in the park, fill up with gas and generally go on with your day to day activities. Why do they have the right to film everything you do? We all assume the video is logged in some sort of system and deleted down the road when not used for any reason (ie: a robbery didn't take place).

If it is deleted, we all say, "whatever, that footage wasn't used" and we move on. If it does get used to expose a crime, we say, "great, I'm glad they caught the guy - hey look there's me in the background."

But what about all the footage being misused? Posting it to youtube and being publicly humiliated on a large scale is just part of it. What about using it to stalk, invasion of privacy and many other things people can think of? Now we have to be afraid to scratch our nose in public for fear of being recorded and posted to Youtube with a caption reading "Man picks nose in public". (Ewe gross!).

The point is, regardless of the humility this woman received and then was elevated to, these companies need to take a professional outlook on this information and be held accountable.

It's like going to the Emergency ward because you got shot in the but (keeping it Disney here), and then they video tape you coming in and them removing the bullet (as part of their procedure). OK, you leave, no problem. then one day you find out the video is on Youtube. Ya, you feel dumb, and embarrassed for shooting yourself in the rump, but you sue because of the gross violation of personal medical information.

There has got to be some accountability here, if there is no policy in place, she should be able to sue the Mall. If there is a policy in place, the individual should loose his job and be found liable. If they can't find out who did it, then the Mall is responsible for not having proper security measures in place to track who had access to security information.

video of what a ringworld would really look like

Longswd says...

>> ^BicycleRepairMan:

Fascinating, but not very plausible.. to make this, you'd have to collect several million earthlike planets from all over the galaxy, somehow tow them to this star, bring them all into the same, stable orbit, and then somehow splice them together, sort of like a stone arch falling into place. How you could keep gravity from pulling them together to form gas-giants or even small stars is yet another matter. overall, with superb planet-towing spaceships and all, I'd estimated the task to take several hundred million years and probably fail. I'd think I'd settle for populating the galaxy first.

I've read the whole series, many times and according to Niven the Ringworld was constructed as a filled shell. Planets, planetoids and asteroid belts from neighboring systems were broken down and through a never explained process, transmuted into a unique alloy called Scrith. That shell was then contoured like a bas-relief, bulges for oceans, depressions for mountains and filled with earth, water, oxygen, plants etc.. Still a massive undertaking to be sure, esp. at sub-light speeds but not as bad as assembling a giant jigsaw.

Sub-light speed technology is assumed as any civilization capable of FTL travel would find it far easier to terraform and inhabit existing worlds.
