Marston Smith and his electric cello @ Encinitas Street Fair
What I found interesting is that he made some of the noises from Hitch Hiker's guide theme (first TV series, not the original radio show or the remakes) that I had assumed came from a synth, but now assume came from one of those

Stephen Colbert Sings "Friday" Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
>> ^JAPR:
The prominent synth hook sounded good enough on this with a real band backing it that I just blocked out the lyrics and was almost able to enjoy this song purely based off of the fair compositional quality, but then I remembered that it stands for so much that I hate and it slipped away.
Well I believe the house band for the Jimmy Fallon show is "the Roots". Can't go wrong there...

Moog introduces Polyphonic Theremin

Protentoise Bullshit its like guchi handbags of synth industry.
also could produce this exact sound in off the shelf fotware package for under £50 to an extent that I bet people could not tell the difference.
SPOILER ALERT: Look at the acronym, and then at the date at the beginning of the video.

Dave Grohl dances to A-Ha's "Take On Me"
>> ^bamdrew:
80's electro pop had a resurgence, and since maybe 2004 can be regularly heard in the mix at clubs and 'cool' bars.
They keep on playing the entire Talking Heads 'Stop Making Sense' soundtrack at a bar I go to a lot... not that I'm complaining, but, I mean, there's new music thats drum-heavy, synth/electro-heavy, psychedelic-influenced stuff out there... was listening to the last Bear in Heaven and Deerhunter albums today at work, for instance. Same story with 80's electro pop.
... wow, wondering comment...
I wish Bear in Heaven's albums sounded a bit more like their live shows - they kick it up substantially in concert!

The Faint - "The Geeks Were Right"
this is great... love heavy synth rhythms
NESK-1 Nintendo Synthesizer Cartridge
there's a big synth/8bit movement, so I'm guessing he's in 2011 already
Hot Chip makes me Feel Better
I just don't think Hot Chip are very good sadly. Bunch of hipsters playing weedy synths and the lead vocals are just too weak.
However I suspect some of them will be good producers when their time is over. I'll upvote this strange video though.

Eats Tapes - acid-spazz techno
>> ^shagen454: If you're just looking at the video I understand your sentiments. However, like I said I'm not a big fan of this type of music - that being said the way in which someone comes up with music is important. I know Videosift is full of music Ignoramuses, but these guys use circuit bent toys as well as completely analog drum machines & synths to make their fully original "mutant" sound. They were signed to a "larger" underground electronic label, toured Europe for years and were pretty influential with movers and shakers of all sorts. If you can't hear it - that's fine, maybe there's something wrong with you, maybe you're completely normal. or maybe right now is just not the right time for you to understand.
it seems you have a GROSS misunderstanding of "dookey dookey doo, thud, thud, thud, thud" music. circuit bent toys, analogue drum machines, and analogue synths are par for the course and certainly nothing new. as a fan of "dookey dookey doo, thud, thud, thud, thud" music i find this offensively boring.
just because you make noise in an interesting way doesn't make the noise itself interesting.
