Gold and silver are and have almost always been precious metals throughout the world and throughout time. Panda shit has never been nor ever will be.

Fiat currency has no value because there's no value added material backing it. A $20 bill in a fiat currency system is worth $20 of nothing. With a value backed currency, the money is always worth the amount in a valued asset. If I had a $20 bill in a value backed currency, I could trade it in for $20 worth of gold, because that's what the bill represents.

Singapore and Korea have greatly benefited from Western imperialism (English and American). They inherited our knowledge to build sustainable economies around our economic theory and sound legislative backgrounds. As for Saudi-Arabia, US geologists first discovered the oil under their feet in the 1930s but Americans waited at least 20 years to really start pumping it out.

It is not to say that Westeners are totally responsible for these success stories, but we sure as hell had a hand in getting them started. As for Africa, what most upsets me is that many people fell guilty at their failure. Africa has been offered a multitude of opportunities for growth and stability but have wasted them all away.

At the very least, we are looking at a 20% devaluation of the entire us market. That means everything you own is now 20% less valuable than it was before, you make 20% less, the works

Being the dollar is the world currency, this will be a world wide problem...investing in euros and yen at this point won't help you as most of the world banks are going to have the same problem if the dollar busts. Sad times ahead. Now is the time to adjust your living patterns.

As for Netrunner, I don't think there is any long slow way out of it. The only real solution is liquidation. You have to let the market fall on the debt to give value back to the currency. There is no amount of stimulus or governement bail outs that will do this, this will just put less trust in the markets where the money is being played with by powers other than the market

The best bet for those sifters that are interested is to get all of your stocks and investments out of the financial sector. At this point, things that are hard money based, like gold and precious metals are your most realiable bet.

On a serious note, fear of recession and inflation does drive investment in precious metals, which in turns drives prices for those metals up, so buying some stack in the gold market might not be a waste of money. Probably better to just go with a mutual fund with holdings in those areas.

In a move to monetize gold, it's demand and price will rise substantially to meet those figures, and the people who convert early will be better off than those converting last. But it can be done, particularly in a scenario when the paper money is made worthless anyway. Look at Zimbabwe. In their present situation, if every citizen immediately converted their money to gold, and used gold thenceforth, their long-term situation would improve dramatically as their money could no longer be debased.
