In Poland the Rules of the Road are Slightly Different

Just outside soviet russia, fortunately for Ivan Mládek or he would still be in jail for some of his jokes, popular lately in poland but not quite polish, please keep in mind this is almost 40 years old. It is funny in czech, not just weird, Mládek was actually fairly mainstream in the seventies and has spawned a revival band. My sister went to school with Ivo Pešák´s daughter - yes the dancing guy. The other man i remember for lambchops from back then is Emerson Fittipaldi, to put this into perspective.

Just as an aside, I did a rotation in an Orthopedics hospital in Poland. The average wait time for socialized healthcare there is 3 years for a procedure.
We would have people coming in that needed surgery on their hands, and if it took any longer than 3-6 months of waiting, the muscles would start to atrophy and the hand would become useless even if it was fixed. Guess what? Unless you had the money to pay for private care to fix your hand, you're waiting those 3 years because there is someone just like you waiting for a surgery that is just as important.

That's Poland...I think the richest country in the world can do better.

President Truman's Ultimatum to Japan (before Hiroshima)

mentality says...

>> ^Mikus_Aurelius:

Certainly it is logically incompatible to hold that the Japanese government didn't care about civilian deaths and also that the atomic bomb caused the surrender. The only purpose of strategic bombing is to kill and demoralize large numbers of civilians. Why would a quarter of a million more deaths change the mind of such a callous regime?

I never said the civilian casualties swayed the regime to surrender. Obviously it doesn't play much of a factor since many times that died in conventional bombing campaigns and Japan didn't budge. It was the threat of utter destruction that the atomic bomb promised that finally convinced the Japanese to surrender.

Also, your criticism of Truman's demand for unconditional surrender is wrong. The Potsdam declaration was in fact conditional. And we do know exactly what the Japanese were demanding: That they retain control of Korea and Taiwan, which is about as acceptable as letting the Nazis keep France and Poland.

Also, stop twisting my words. I never said that bombing civilians was "absolutely justified". I said the use of atomic weaponry was absolutely justified. The justification of Total war is not something that I'm arguing, and strategic bombing is not unique to nuclear weapons. As to why similar bombing hasn't been used since WWII, well that's because we haven't been engaged in another total war, and we're held back by the threat of global nuclear holocaust and mutually assured destruction.

Obama vs. Obama on Afghanistan

RedSky says...

@Yogi

I think it's irrelevant what you call it, the pros and cons of any action given the current situation is all that matters. In making the comparison to Poland and Germany I don't think you're honestly considering them. There is every reason to believe should the US leave there will be mass bloodshed as a result of the current established balance of power and any purported reparations will be captured by the corrupt to fuel a continued cycle of violence.

Obama vs. Obama on Afghanistan

>> ^Yogi:
I know that leaving wouldn't be a perfect option however it's still the only option. Many many more people will die if we stay. We went through the same thing in Vietnam when people thought we should stay, it's wrong and we shouldn't. Although there will probably be some horrific deaths, there will be thousands more if we stay. We must leave.

To be honest, I'm beginning to think more and more that it's your mess, and your responsibility to fix it. Going into Afghanistan was just as ridiculous as going into Iraq. What were the odds that a slow, advancing military force was going to seriously disrupt a fluid cross-national terrorist organisation, let alone catch a single terrorist in its dragnet? Yes, the Taliban openly sponsored Al Qaeda but this doesn't change the fact there is no shortage of decrepit states and governments to which terrorist organisations can relocate like Somalia. It was obvious that if going in the objective was to topple a government, nation building would follow.
Yes, the US has a massive budget deficit and is in no position to fund wars, but equally I don't think you can morally justify bailing and seeing the people who trusted in your willingness to establish a semblance of a functioning state with human rights be rounded up and executed. Biden's plan of leaving a limited force to target terrorist activities will simply not be enough to prevent this. While the kind of parliamentary/ presidential democracy they're going for really has little chance of working because of the lack of pan-national trust and how dependant the political system is on patronage, I think a more decentralised model has a chance, and that's really what I think they should be aiming for.

I disagree, I don't believe it was ridiculous or a mistake. I believe it was instituting a war of aggression which is considered the greatest international crime under the Nuremburg principles. So what happens when someone commits a War of Aggression against someone else? Do we call for them to stay and clean up the mess? No that's ridiculous because asking a population to accept the rule of those who caused them to be in this predicament is laughable. We wouldn't force the Nazi's to stay in Poland and clean up their mess...they have to leave and pay them reparations.

Which is I think the best thing we can do, leave and let possibly the UN or Red Crescent work with Afganistan trying to figure it out while paying reparations. And invading army isn't required to clean up their mess when their presence is what's causing the mess.

You moron , I have seen the full series how about you engage your brain gears.

the piont is the nazies didnt get away with it and they fucked it up , they could have exsploited the laber far more efficently ,

all the clever countries now are getting away with it , exploiting the 3rd world is how its ment to be done.
the nazies just didnt have the imaginatoin to do it properly.

the advantage of doing things totaly overseeies with the most deprived natoins is that no other natoins give a shit and the populatoins of the natoin your raping are evan more poweless to do annything , becuse they dont know anny better and allso they are to far islated from the controlers to do annything.

allso its a waist of money and time puting them all in camps and killing them all , why not let them maintain themselfs just make sure you keep it so they can never be in a positoin to actualy earn the true amount of income they deserve.

The reasoin the germans faild is the top brass was so concernd in setting up a new rome/empire. im sure if they had got away with it everyone would hail the germans as sucsesfull conqerors and masters of a new civalisatoin . In the same way allot of people have this bizar respect for the romans and how gr8 they were , despite the fact that there gratness was most likely bult of the backs of slave labor murder and genoside.

a more recent example than romans would be How the british raped and exploited people around most the world and still remain respectable.
the germans were just noobs.

The whole genoside thing repatedly happens and we still dont seem to give a shit it would be nice if people were educated about genoside in general and how easily it happens.

Intresting genosides

Mao Ze-Dong (China, 1958-61 and 1966-69, Tibet 1949-50)

Slobodan Milosevic (Yugoslavia, 1992-99)

Kim Il Sung (North Korea, 1948-94)

Pol Pot (Cambodia, 1975-79)

colinisatoin of amerca ( admitedly allot of it was desize but the british and other people that moved to USA compelaty fucked up a whole load of people)

I dont know if u can class the reacent wars in iraq a genoside , or maby veatnam war. personaly im not so sure how much intentoin matters , in the sence that if u intend to wipe out a natoin of people or if thats just what happens. in the end if a whole load of people end up dying then from the perspective of that group of people its a genoside. the only difference would be if they died because they were activly in combat with the otherside running at them with guns , or if they were cavileans that were killed through a genetic / gealogical asoceatoin .

>> ^demon_ix:

If you had actually watched the video instead of just trolling, you would have seen that's exactly what they did. They set up factories in Poland to take advantage of the Coal resources in the area and used the prisoners as forced labor to build weapons for the German war effort.
>> ^westy:
~Its still fine to murder people or just forget its hapaaning , you just canot do it in camps .
if the nazies were clever they would have just exsploited 3rd world labor and only invaded countries that had pore militaries but strong resources.
