Usually yes.. Back 1999 new year, we were on a backbag trip thru eastern europe, filming the whole thing to 8mm and with one of the new award winning Finnish document producer on the camera, he leaned over the window, started doing a slow pan shot and once he got it and started to climb back in, a powerpole swush past his head, it was literally just 1 or 2cm... we check the situation and they were really going only 15cm from the train.. This was in Poland, Warsaw-Bialystok line (i think, could've been in Lithuania too)... No doubt they have increased margins since.. We almost lost a great talent.

This looks like it happened somewhere in Poland. The announcer is speaking in Polish and the guy at the end says "Didn't I tell you?" in Polish.

Oh man this is ironic. I've never seen the Celtic cross being used that way before. For Irish and Scottish Gaelics the Celtic cross is just a Celtic cross, symbolizing their religion and culture. While the Hooligans in Poland are using it as a symbol of racial supremacy, kind of like how the Swastika from India came to be known as a Nazi symbol, which also changes meaning in different cultures as in Hinduism it's a good luck charm, while in buddhist context it symbolizes circle of life or eternity.

Actually, I am not that well travelled.

I agree that it's cool to say things in the "local" language, but a lot of the time you're basically pronouncing the country's name in English rather than in the local language. Like Polska vs Poland, Ukraine vs Україна etc :

I remember in 7th grade, my geography teacher - Mr. Reekie, (who was also the JV football coach) told us all that World War 3 was about to start in Poland because of Lech Wałęsa's solidarity movement. It scared the shit out of me, and stuck with me as a small scar - even as a 42 year old man.

I remember being similarly (and in retrospect, needlessly) terrified in 85-86 when the shit was going on with Libya (culminating in bombing). I would have been 6-7 at the time. I remember riding the bus home after school, looking out the window at the horizon, and being afraid that one day bombers were just going to come screaming overhead and destroy/kill everything and everyone. I didn't understand that Libya was a tiny speck of a country with an insignificant military, and I didn't understand that a tiny backwoods town in upstate NY would not be a valuable military target.
