You're a Dream of the Universe (According to Science)

newtboy says...

IMO this isn’t taking science or philosophy seriously. It’s making arguments based on nonsense like living floating brains in space being a possibility, or the ridiculous idea that in infinite time everything will eventually happen….which is silly.
I don’t think even everything that COULD happen would happen even if it were given an infinite amount of time (which is not a reality either)….and certainly not things that are impossible like sentient disembodied brains in space.

I dislike this pseudoscience masquerading as real scientific theory. It’s not even real philosophy…it’s the kind of thing mediocre physics students think about when they’re tripping balls then write Marvel comic books about.

Science better please. 🤦‍♂️

Black Man In Florida Stands His Ground Against Two Armed Men

newtboy says...

Um…in this case it seems the dude did go into the store after they drove off, they came back later and attacked him in front of the store. What?

Before they returned and physically attacked him, they were just another pair of racist assholes shouting racist insults. Police approve. Why call police that would do nothing but harass the dude, who being armed would himself be shot dead? Terrible suggestion.

Why is it you don’t say the dead racist fucktards shouldn’t have called police instead of attacking an innocent man? That likely would have gotten them what they wanted, which was having the dude violently removed. Play stupid racist games, win hot lead prizes.

These guys returned from apparently getting a gun in order to beat the dude up or murder him…and lost. If ever there was a “stand your ground” case this is it, but watch, being black he will be denied that defense and charged with murder and attempted murder, and if he gets an all white jury will be convicted.

Things are so fucked. Those two boys, and all 4 of their parents deserve to be shot in the dick and allowed to die slowly over a weeks time without aid. They are wastes of skin and air and deserve the most grueling prolonged excruciating death conceivable. If I lived in the area and could identify the families, two houses would be burned to the ground already. They didn’t become violent racist piles of shit in a vacuum.

Those weren’t people he shot, they were violent racist cuntbags with 0% humanity that attacked the wrong man…meatbags committing crimes…good riddance.

moonsammy said:

This "stand your ground" shit is so fucking stupid. When the only metric for making it ok to kill someone is "I claim I was scared," it becomes incredibly easy to justify what would otherwise have been an easily avoided death. In this case, dude could have just walked away after the car first drove off. Or gone into the store and called police. Etc. I recognize "call the police" isn't always a good option (so many instances of cops showing up and arresting or shooting the person who called - usually dark-skinned people), but that really SHOULD be the right option here, if things weren't so fucked.

More Trump officials directly physically involved in Jan 6 convicted.

This time Frederick Klein, a Trump administration official, now convicted of 12 charges for being part of the violent vanguard attacking police to gain access to the capitol building.
Found guilty of, among other violent seditious acts, charges of assaulting, resisting, and impeding police officers. He hit multiple officers, shoved them out of the way, and used a stolen riot shield to block police from closing the doors he and his cohorts had forced open.
This man had top secret security clearance, and remained at his position in the administration after he violently attacked democracy on Jan 6. He was not fired, he quit Jan 19.
😂

How you like Bidenomics now that, contrary to every MAGgot’s prediction including yours who said inflation and unemployment would explode, wages fall, and a recession was a certainty, unemployment remains at record lows, wages are rising from the bottom/middle (not just CEOs), inflation dropped at record rates, and the economy is strong?
While you Cartman-like morons attacked a private citizen for being attractive to women, Dark Brandon has quietly repaired the horrific damage to the economy Trump did (massive deficit and debt explosion, double digit unemployment, and negative GDP!?!) and then some. 😂

Need another 25 high powered Republican child fuckers? I’ve got a truckload ready for you, and I mean an Australian road train size truckload! Just ask.

Afroman - Will You Help Me Repair My Door

newtboy says...

These whining crybabies are suing Afroman for using the video of the illegal raid in his music videos and images of the obese pound cake lusting pigs on merchandise, clearly not understanding the ruling that civil servants have zero expectation of privacy when performing their duties, in public, or on private property that’s not owned by the police and clearly posted as secure and actually physically secured with a clearly posted prohibition from videoing the area.

Ignorance is no excuse, slim.

Flag Desecration

newtboy says...

Big surprise, @bobknight33 can’t understand what’s anti American even when it’s clearly spelled out in the US code….but you can’t read or write English above a second grade level (proven once again by this barely literate post), so it’s not that surprising.

Being against fascism and for the freedom to do what you want with your own body are VERY American sentiments, buddy. Again, no surprise you don’t understand. You believe we should have Christian Shariah law and no freedom of religion or bodily autonomy, and want to Make America Great Again like you think it hasn’t been since women and non whites got to vote.

Wearing an American flag as clothing, or defacing one to make a political statement is 100% AntiAmerican. I know, MAGA loves to do both of those things, so without putting two brain cells together you just insist that’s wrong, despite it being clearly stated in US law. Truth is that’s the least unAmerican thing MAGA has done…but it’s still actually an anti-American crime that carries a one year sentence.

Supporting an abusive civil servant displaying an anti American terroristic gang symbol of division that’s also undeniably a desecration of the American flag on a police uniform is about as unAmerican as it gets. Derp.

Again, your damaged little brain misfires…I’m hell bent against corrupt abusive cops because I love America, ya ijit.
(Btw- having a bent means having an aptitude, natural ability, capacity, or knack…so thanks for the unintentional compliment when you said I’m good at opposing corrupt cops.)

Enjoy watching MAGA eat itself and the Republican Party with it. Bankrupt in multiple states and physically fighting each other at GOP meetings. Talk about trash people! There is no group more trashy than MAGA, untouchable orphans in India are less trashy. 😂

This if you anti American? -- Grow up
You have such a bent against cops and America, just leave, and go some place that will make you happier.

If you want to see anti Americans just watch ANTIFA and that fruit loop community protesting -- Trash people

MyHouse.WAD - Inside Doom's Most Terrifying Mod

I don’t think “clever” quite covers it.
This was game physics bending, mind melting genius.
I felt like it was the video gave version of “the mouth of madness”.

Tom Laughton - Wonder 2

newtboy says...

Awesome! I wanna see.

Just like this, or the single piece version? This, as far as I can tell, is just a realistic 3d render of something he hasn’t made (yet). I like the double helix effect.

That must have cost them quite a pretty penny. The artist has the shape copywritten and trademarked I believe, both the physical and digital versions, and he sells the regular 30cm tall tabletop version for $1900.00!

I hope your neighbor didn’t copy his design without paying him a royalty, that could get really expensive.

Man Rips Up His Cash Over Seat Belt Ticket

newtboy says...

If those people could sign waivers refusing any medical care they don’t pre pay for, waiving any physical damages if they aren’t at fault (I shouldn’t have to pay for your preventable injuries just because we crashed) and hospitals honor those waivers…just a dot on your license that says if your wallet is empty you agree to be a live organ donor…I’d agree.
Since that’s not the case and as often as not the paying public ends up footing the bill in one way or another for the irresponsible behavior like not wearing a seat belt, mandating seat belt usage seems 100% reasonable.
Also, since most learning/teaching is by example, it’s near child abuse to not wear it with kids in the car. Akin to shooting drugs or playing Russian roulette in front of them….taking a deadly risk for no purpose.

visionep said:

Those alarms can be disabled. I always disable them on my cars so it doesn't annoy me when I don't want to wear my seatbelt.

Seatbelt laws are very strange to me. I think the law should only be that you can get a ticket if you don't force your children to wear a seatbelt. Forcing adults to wear them does nothing for public safety, it's a personal safety issue which shouldn't be mandated by the government.

I'm surprised the cops didn't refer the guy to mental services. This guy definitely has control issues and it would be worth it for his family to have him checked out and get help if he needed it.

Burden of Proof | Chilling One-Take about an Abusive Ex

cloudballoon says...

Maybe the overlooking (1st person) camera is in the girl's flat (or a collaborator's balcony), the 1st person camera is controlled by her roommate/collaborator. So the whole setup is to have the victim wait for the ex-BF to the pass by the bridge (a routine thing for him?), then catch her ex's audio & visual confession using a remote mic setup. So whether the ex-BF tossed the on-person mic to the river isn't important, since the camera just recorded a fresh physical assault, and a semi-confession of the past sexual assault as well?

I wonder if this is IRL, would the video be sufficient evidence to nail to ex-BF though? What consititue an admission of guilt nowadays? The suspicions of being recorded and his subsequent physical assault (arguably a minor one? But at minimum an invaison of personal space by force?)... a hint of gaslighting is in there too. All of these evidence, what are they worth legally? Is this at least sufficient to get a perma restraining order on him?

newtboy said:

I assumed the heavy breathing, jacket removal, and camera movement were all the woman returning to her apartment with a second recording device in her pocket and camera in her window.
I guess, with the constant surveillance from multiple angles that’s the norm in most developed countries anywhere in public, and the overlooking camera angle, I never considered the idea that it wasn’t being recorded from multiple devices, so I might have missed the point.
I was only surprised she didn’t retrieve the thing he threw in the creek. The device may be destroyed, but the recording isn’t…not that there was a clear confession on it.

Burger King employee slaps kid who was making a mess

newtboy says...

This was not an attempted “life lesson”, it was an angry punishment that teaches the kid it’s ok to physically abuse those that can’t defend themselves.
The lesson that may be learned is if you can act the fool enough to make an employee lose their cool and get violent, you can cash in big time.

He was in no was showing respect. He was smacking a kid that made him mad. That’s the lesson he taught, resorting to violence is acceptable if you’re mad. A horrible life lesson that usually leads to prison.

It may be understandable, even cathartic, but it’s also wrong.

Such a ridiculous idiot, bob. Every time, on every subject.

bobknight33 said:

Indeed a humanitarian, gesture. This is a life lesson.

How A Brick & Rock Battery Is Changing Energy Storage

spawnflagger says...

yeah, since efficiency is usually a measure of how much energy is lost to heat, should be 0% vs 100%... but, marketing.

I also doubt they are using aerogel or cryostats insulation to surround hot bricks. (or maybe that's why 1 container costs $9M?)

Matt (and team) from Undecided almost never approach their videos with a critical eye. Many startups' claims can be debunked with high school physics, but they just present everything as-is and with good production value. I consider their channel more entertainment than education, but still interesting to see some of the ideas out there.

newtboy said:

Ok. I like the concept….thermal mass as short term heat storage/release is a well established science.

Sadly calling bullshit when they claim converting electricity to heat is 100% efficient. Nothing is 100% efficient.
They also claim 98% efficiency “pulling the heat back out”…unbelievably high.
Noticeably missing were heat loss rates, both for capture and storage over time…both expected to be extremely high at temperatures of 1500C.

The second system boasting 80% efficiency (but why burning wood?) is more realistic, but the only 3% heat loss per day at 500C temperatures claim is not. No insulation I’ve ever heard of is that efficient.

Recycling industrial manufacturing heat seems smart, but I think they need to be honest up front about the real world expectations and uses. If it could cut the energy needed to bake limestone or melt steel in half, that’s great…please don’t imply it could cut it by anything approaching 97%. That makes me not trust it at all.

EMTs charged with murder

newtboy says...

Full disclosure, I’m not an EMT, but I do know it takes SOME medical training to be one, and it takes absolutely none to know slamming a near unconscious person in full body physical distress with full force on their face then strapping them face down across the chest so hard it asphyxiates them is something a layman with zero medical training knows is not proper or acceptable or even safe treatment.
This wasn’t a case of being tired or inattentive, IMO….it was a case of, for whatever reason, them being put out and clearly enraged at having to help a black man in full blown alcohol withdrawals, and treating him as a sub human inconvenience rather than a distressed patient needing help.

It varies by state, but in California where I live…. California EMT programs are at least 160 hours and include at least 136 hours of didactic training and at least 24 hours of clinical training. The individual must have 10 patient contacts. An EMT who continues training at the AEMT level must meet additional prerequisites.

noims said:

I was going to start off saying that the whole concept of a private ambulance company - an essential service run for profit that so obviously benefits the wealthy over the poor - is so alien to me that it feels wrong to my core.

Then I read your comment and thought that the training really is at the heart of this. Were they sufficiently trained and managed to know that this could/would kill?

This is not a rhetorical question.

If they were paid little and/or forced to work long shifts so they're facing this while tired enough not to think/care, then I blame the company and, by association, the system. If they were well trained and had no genuine excuse (rather than reason) for their behaviour then I blame them.

The reality probably isn't as cut-and-dried as I present it above, but there's definitely a spectrum of blame to be considered.

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays / Season's Greetings ! (Sift Talk Post)

noims says...

Merry christmas. This year I feel closer to many of you than ever.

OK, so it's because I'm on holidays in New York so it's purely by physical proximity, but it's technically correct.

Have fun, all!
