Price of Persia made a large profit, but would you say it was a good movie? RE movies have done well, but I would say you would find most critics panned them badly. They certainly were not really related to the early RE games, other than biomod creatures and zombies. I wouldn't put the RE movies in the exact same category as Street Fighter, they aren't THAT bad.

I would also say that Milla had somewhat of a fanbase simply from the Fifth Element, Dazed and Confused, Zoolander, and The Messenger. I wouldn't say huge, but I was a fan of hers and I suffered through the first couple of RE movies simply because she was the female lead.

As far as games based on movie franchises, I would say mainly only Star Wars and LotR games have been really successful, although an argument could be made for the Lego games (Harry Potter, Batman, etc). There are some others that have been decent, but nothing spectacular I can recall off the top of my head.

As far as the worst conversion from game to movie, I would say it's a 3-way tie between Doom, Wing Commander, and Street Fighter.

I find it interesting that you allude to Resident Evil, but put it in the same category as Street Fighter. I find the RE movies WAY better than the games, and they've certainly made money. Milla didn't have much of a fanbase when that series started...at least not as an actress.
Now movie games, games made from popular movie stories as tie in merchandise, nearly ALL suck....but I'm sure there's an exception to that rule as well.

Historically Islam didn't really engage in forced conversions, partly because under both the Caliphate and the Ottoman empire the tax break given to Muslims would've been problematic if given to the entire population (this tax break is the flip side of the "extort money" that you refer to).

Also speaking historically, Jews were much safer in Muslim lands than Christian since Christians tended to massacre them on a fairly regular basis until 1945 and despite what you've heard most Muslims are fairly tolerant. The same applies to minority Christian sects, the Nestorians for instance had to flee to Persia in 489 AD, and I seem to recall another minority group who fled England to Holland and then to the Americas (perhaps you've heard of them?).

I used to think that Buddhists and Hindus were more tolerant than the Abrahamic religions, but unfortunately I've since learned that I only thought so due to ignorance.

No.

Muslim is the only religion who tenents is to force you to convert, if not then extort money from you if not then kill you.

Christians would just call you sinners and go about their day.

Karateka Apple versus/vs. Apple Smackdown

mxxcon says...

As much as I respect this guy for creating the original Karateka and Prince of Persia, this new Karateka game is shit. There's less than 40minutes of gameplay and 0 replay value. It's one long QuickTimeEvent.

This made me really nostalgic. Not just the pixel art, but the music too.

Playing the SNES in a video game haze to a background of melancholic 90's rock, buoyant punk and grunge apathy; smoking too much; drinking cheap beer and vodka (and whatever else we could get our hands on).

Waking up on an old sofa chair bathed in dimly flashing colours and quiet, looping chip music.

Super Metroid; Prince of Persia; A Link to the Past; Secret of Mana; Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Kart.

Spider-Man and Wolverine comics, and Kerrang! on the floor.

And an otherwise, abject poverty.

Seems like another life now.

It's slightly sad seeing tracks in that state, knowing how much hard work went into laying them.

Oh come on... It's not like it was YOUR hard work that went into them. What about the ancient Incan civilization? A lot of work went into that, too, and a whole people are dead. How about the ancient Egyptians, ancient Persia, the Babylonians, Atlantis... You need to re-prioritize the things you cry about.

That's how simple the game was?? Goddamn it, the 11 year old me never was able to beat it.

These videos make it look a lot easier than it was. One slightly mis-timed jump, or failing to stop in time for a ledge, and it was often instant death.

I shudder to think of the number of times I used to run straight into the very first guard and die immediately because I didn't slow down soon enough to be able to draw my sword.

I made it to level 4 about three times, but definitely no more than that, and never completed it - those yellow guards were crazy hard to beat.
