Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North Of Richmond

bobknight33 says...

You ever think that you are totally wrong on this .

Not racist, Not Anti American, Not MEGA.

Perhaps you are hearing another "dog whistle". Odd thing is that only democrats hear these dog whistles.

People are tired of being screwed and not listen to by their government.

If racist as you say fined a non media reaction to this that indicates so. Find 3

Perhaps its know it all people like you who want to divide people, who want to keep poor people down just for their vote.

Why are so many here upvoting this anti governmental America hating regressive racist extreme Christian right MAGA anthem the anti government America hating extreme Christian MAGA right has latched onto?

Do you not know what he’s saying?
Do you not understand “people like me and people like you” refers to white Christian nationalist people?
Do you not understand what’s meant by “with an old soul” (it means they want to regress to pre-civil rights era Jim crow)?
Do you not understand the “rich men north of Richmond” he speaks about are just the Democratic “tax and spend” politicians (and maybe RINOS but not MAGA)?
Do you not notice the anti government assistance message?
Did you miss the pro incel message?
Did you miss all the fat shaming by a fat man?
Did you not notice the COMPLAINT that the government protected minors being raped on an island INSTEAD OF coal miners (who in fact have had dozens of government “welfare” programs created to get them retraining and jobs in industries that are less deadly, pollute less, and pay over minimum wage as well as instituted hundreds of governmental safety regulations that have cut miner deaths exponentially).

Did no one listen to the message of the song?
Did no one else notice the completely homogenous angry white middle age crowd?

WTF people!?

problem is, you ask every religion if they think they are "an interpretation" and they would angrily tell you NO, WE ARE TELLING YOU THE TRUTH!!

so you've got a gajillion different "interpretations" that mostly conflict and all declare themselves to be "THE TRUTH!"

And you wonder why people are so angry, all the theists have their own personal interpretation of a deity that conflicts with everyone else's interpretation which then incites conflict.

gee, wonder why atheism and agnosticism have grown so sharply in recent years. People are tired of the bullshit of imaginary sky deities that grant wishes and favor one political party over another.

if you can't prove that these claims of deities then you've got nothing and it's far better to rely on things that can be demonstrated in reality than some ancient bronze-age text(s).

5 Horrifying Secret Rules of Life in a Movie Universe

Reminds me why I hate a lot of movies other people enjoy. Tired, samy plot (literally identical lines often) and nothing but exposition. I hate writing where the characters say shit nobody in the real world would EVER SAY!

Oh and I love my Cracked Weekly email. Those guys are funny as hell.

Campus Censorship and the End of American Debate

I agree with you as far as the seeming "changing of the guard" goes, but I've seen that happen elsewhere I reverse. When it comes down to it I think we see trends that have their time, and then move on. Right now after the US election season I would expect a lot of stupid pointless videos as people are tired of the politics for a bit (and not just people sifting these videos, the people making them as well). Now as to this video I think the initial argument made was certainly valid. The point in the video is extremely well worded, but you do have to consider the source on these things. As i mentioned, a brief glance at FIRE's website shows defense of a college student you is bullying and cyber bullying a girl about her weight in a malicious fashion. if you look at the conduct codes they are fighting against, every one of them is against this type of bullying. They are promoting this as free speech, but a University has the right to draw the line when this borders on harassment.

Absolutely true, which is why I even bother to bitch about it. It wouldn't mean anything to me if it hadn't once been different, but it feels to me like a new wave blew into town awhile ago and has been steadily taking hold here. Whereas the top 15 once were dominated by politics and ideas, it's now at least half "dude, did you see that" and "isn't that cute" style videos. The conversation seems to have generally followed the trend. It's always well-spoken, but more often than not discusses presentation, petty flaws, or (like above) stereotypes the presenter rather than discussing their ideas assuming they have merit and seeking to disprove them from that perspective rather than resorting to marginalization of character.

Maybe I'm grasping at straws to try to stir up some of the more interesting conversation that once was spearheaded by people I often disagreed with but always learned something from that are no longer part of this site, but truth be told I do this on a 9 vote video because I know I don't have the energy to follow it up. My kids an job are always first, my own ideals and stimuli second.

That said, thanks for replying and making a point that directly addressed mine without calling me some sort of name. It's exactly that sort of thing I'd like to see more of around here.

Well, some ideas may have been floating around, but Christians are the ones who put them into practice. Read about Robert Grosseteste and the christians after him who refined his ideas.. The scientific revolution took place is medievil europe, and the people responsible were all devout Christians.

Also, please dont pigeonhole Christians with superstitious pagan religions who cried in horror every time lightning struck..this is the entire point that it is the presumption of Christianity that God created an orderly universe with natural laws that could be observed and verified.

You probably have no idea but the scientific method was created by Christians who believed that matter behaved rationally because God created an orderly universe.

The scientific method was not "created", nor did its origins stem from any particular group. It was was a gradual refinement of repeating observation and experimentation, and it involved Christians, Muslims, and others that predate both religions (it's worth noting the development was during times when people would often be tortured and killed for daring to doubt the existence of a creator).
Most people like to be reasonably sure what is real versus what someone made up and others believed anyway. That's why we test ideas and observations... to know whether a particular belief or possibility holds any real basis in reality.
People used to claim all kinds of magical events that only happened to others. Heck, they still do. We have the scientific method because people got tired of it and wanted to know what was reproducable.

Fact is that the federal government doesn't need 4+ TRILLION dollars to perform its constitutionally mandated functions. It takes that money to do a lot of unnecessary crap that buys votes (particularly union votes). The government could easily be trimmed back to a lean 1 trillion dollars by divesting itself of foolish entanglements in social experimentation and other welfare entitlements.
The states that are facing fiscal collapse (New York, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Illinois, California, et al) are almost UNIVERSALLY states that been controlled by decades of left-wing liberal "tax & spend" nanny state philosophy. The Chris Christies and Walkers of the nation were voted in to clean up the mess. To put it plainly, people got tired of dealing with children-liars who promise the world while brooming problems onto the next generation - and so they hired some grown-ups.
The kid in this vid doesn't come off as 'destroying' anything except his own credibility. It's an open display of a person who is not a critical thinker, and who has little or no understanding of economics, or civics.

Those states also have much higher income per capita than the red states. They're doing fine economically, just not quite balancing the budget.

It's a bit paradoxical that the states with the highest income per capita, which contribute much more to the Federal Government's income than they recieve in spending, are blue states, while the states with the lowest income per capita, which contribute much less to the federal government's income than they recieve in spending, are red states.

Maybe the reason the people in the red states think the government doesn't do jack shit for them is because they're in a state with both a poor population AND low taxes so as a consequence the government doesn't have the budget to do jack shit.

Oh please, red and blue states are hurting across the board. Speaking for my own state (very red) we're hurting financially too and it's the same nonsense, give tax breaks away like candy to the people and companies who don't need them while at the same time, punishing the needy. We've gone through this shit before and it just doesn't work!

By your same logic, your top earners don't NEED all that extra money their tax breaks and bonuses net them. If you've got such moral outrage for the public sector "supposedly" having too much money, then where is the moral outrage for the private for having way more than they need when you're a top earner. Double standard much?

I totally agree that cuts need to happen, but they need to start at the top where it's fattest, not the bottom where it's already lean.

On that note, Texas is sitting on a budget surplus last I checked, but then again we are the best country on this continent

I think it's pointless for people to be submitting anything right now. I'd love to be able to discourage that for a few days so we can all concentrate on the clear up.

I agree. One thing that could happen is that since everyone is upvoting upvoting upvoting, then the recently sifted videos get most of the votes, (like that daily show post currently at 70+, that's a huge gap over the other posts worthy of that number of votes but that are older.) the unsifted get another big chunk of the votes, and then people get tired or lazy and don't bother going through the older posts.

Yeah, I gotta say I wasn't happy about it.. but it probably has something to do with living in KY which is practically guaranteed to vote McCain this year. Plus, we've got a chance to replace a 24 year Republican seat with a Democratic one, so I figured it was a donation to a worthy cause.

But yeah, to your point, I had walked in expecting the signs to be free. Ironically, I think the guy working at the Democratic headquarters didn't much care for Obama.

You pay for signs? When Ron Paul had an office in town for the caucus, I could get all the Paul signs I wanted, not just little ones, either. I'm talking the 4x6' ones!

In reply to this comment by Lolthien:
My guess is after paying their five bucks for a second or third time these people got tired of buying their signs and wanted to see if they could catch someone at it.

My wife and I have covered the back side of our sign with pepper spray.. that way, someone might get it again, but they'll have a helluva time after they get that stuff all over their hands and arms.

Many people don't think Obama would make a good president and that his only strong trait is how he is a teriffic speaker.. This however is why I think he would be such an asset to the healing of our nations faith in itself. So many people are tired of all the crap. Obama would be so healthy for our country by dispelling the ideas that we're the most important and better then everyone else.while he might be able to only restore some ethics to the government, the ethics he would restore in our people would be far more important.
