Adam Ruins Everything: Polygraph Tests

Lawdeedaw says...

Influence is different than belief. People believe in God. People were influenced by many evil men. In this case it is the same. Lie detectors are "mystical" and "fun." Much in the same way Ouija boards are fun as when you are a kid. Yeah, a few take it to the next level, but again it is not "massive amounts of people."

And look at this. "You are not the father," followed by massive antics. "The lie detector determined that was a lie," followed by massive antics. Again, no one gives two shits about the test, they want to see the bullshit. Let me pose this (and answer it please,) do you think people would watch pop culture if it was bland just because it had a lie detector test? Of course not, because no one gives...two shits

In this regard I am actually insulting American intellect far more than if they believed in a pseudo science, lol. Those people are pathetic, just like Springer people.

And I can see the value--if it makes you happy by all means. I am just justifying why I downvoted it (for blowing up the numbers and shifting blame.)

Also, Adam even disagrees with you! Lol; he says at the end about police departments using it to obtain confessions and it not being real, and the police say "yeah we know that!" Ie., police use it as a tool of influence to scared people. What people do fear is the jury not caring that a detector is inadmissible, they fear it won't matter because perception is 9/10ths of the law.

I think you overestimate the knowledge base of the general public. I don't believe the average person (especially in America) knows that this device is completely without credibility.
So much so that it continues to have a giant influence in our legal system and popular culture (e.g. TV crime drama).
Even if this is something that has been debunked a couple decades ago doesn't mean the information has been properly distributed to the general public.
I still find value to a video like this because of it's nature to inform those who didn't know.
I'm only arguing against your initial point that this "should never have been made". The truth has to continually fight the lies.

Bill Maher: New Rules – October 16, 2015

"Access to guns" certainly plays a role, but I'm not convinced that it is even the biggest factor. In web researching gun violence rates and mass shooting rates by country *per capita*, I've found that the US isn't really as much of a "wild west" / lawless nation as the media portrays it.

For example:
http://www.ijreview.com/2015/06/348197-obama-said-mass-shootings-dont-happen-in-advanced-countries-like-in-us-one-chart-proves-him-wrong/
has interesting data. It is *clearly* biased / written with an "agenda", and there are other problems with it (small countries with one or two incidents rule the top of the chart), but it is interesting nonetheless.

I think culture has as big or bigger impact as anything else.

As to your final paragraph, I'm hesitant to paint all "terrorists and mass-shooters" with the "pathetic little shit" brush. I think the tendency to dismiss them in that way when trying to delve deeper into the questions of *why* does us a disservice in terms of preventing and/or limiting those people and incidents.

It's sorta like examining Hitler. Went about as evil and wrong as a human being has ever gone, and so we often want to just leave it at that. But I think that there have probably been plenty of garden-variety non-famous people who have been as evil and wrong as Hitler, but simply didn't have the unique level of power and opportunity to, uh, "sink to his depths".

Because access to guns is a lot more difficult. That's the second part to this problem.

I do think he's unto something. I have thought about it myself. Terrorists and mass-shooters all seem like pathetic little shit who are completely sexually repressed and/or sexually frustrated.

Hmm. Interesting theory and he may well be on to something.

...However, I'm sure that there are still plenty of frustrated dateless dudes in the countries around the world that have drastically lower rates of firearm violence / death than the US...

I didn't love or hate the first episode. Found it a bit overly bloody and there was too much weird, unnecessary sex for my taste ... I'm no prude, but come on now I liked the second episode better, so it IS growing on me. The show appears to run well over an hour and my DVR seems to have cut both episodes short so far [I've extended the recording time even more]. I need to see if I can find them online to catch what I missed [hate it when that happens!]

The only season I couldn't watch was Asylum. Maybe I'll give it another try one day. Just couldn't get past the first two or three episodes.

Hey ... Wanted to congratulate you on your pathetic elevator chime hitting number one!!! I absolutely loved that one. I've worked at a hotel and stayed in many over the years, so it's a particular subject matter near and dear to my heart.

Enjoy the rest of whatever time of day/night it is for you iaui

Man Schools New York State Trooper On The Law !

eric3579 says...

IMO The cop not knowing the law (his job) and harassing someone based on his ignorance is a hundred times more pathetic and disgusting then a dude (who was just harassed by a police officer) venting a bit which yes, seemed a bit childish. In the end thankfully everyone walks away hopefully a bit wiser.

Last little jabs he could make were pathetic.

I can agree up until the cameraman proves he was a flaming dick when he spoke like a flaming dick to the supervisor. The bait didn't work, and you could tell the troll was raging inside. Last little jabs he could make were pathetic.

Oxen_Morale said:

Yes, but the first officer did seem to have the bully attitude. I think the filmer did his job well. Supervisor was excellent. Hopefully the 1st officer won't go on a ticket tirade to vent off some steam. He looked pretty pissed when he left but he did hold his tongue well.

Media: "German intelligence services provide assistance to the NSA's espionage program, including selectors aimed at economic/political targets in Germany/EU"

Plebs/Parliamentary committee of inquiry: "Government, show us those selectors!"

Chancellory: "Sincerest apologies, but our hands are tied. The White House made it abundantly clear, we cannot hand these selectors over to any committee, much less the public, without risking the NSA's cooperation."

Media: "White House says it's up to the German Chancellory to make the call."

Chancellory: "Look, a three-headed monkey!"

I hate this pathetic joke of a government...

Pathetic... I made it to the first cut where 'presumably' a doctor said one sentence with no context and immediately they jumped to a new scene.

If your argument is SO pathetic and weak that you have to resort to this kind of blatant and obvious obfuscation, then you are the personification of your argument.

Ho.Ly.Shit.

Not even in ultra-slo-mo. Are they even trying? This probably took 15 minutes in the back lot to produce, and the whole thing is a viral for the manufacturer of that stupid roller, too. Fuck National Geographic, this is pathetic.
