Guy has a truly horrible airport experience

cloudballoon says...

Let AA die already. Unlike many other countries, there's no monopoly/"too big to fail" companies in the aviation industry in America afaik. It's not that hard to let other companies to absorb AA's passenger capacity, especially in 2020. The employees are "arguably" worth the tax payer support through unemployment/Covid benefits to carry them over, but that's it. All these tax money that goes to direct to the company (i.e. the executives/upper management) instead of to the employees (none-stock holding kind) is always bad policy (read: corruption).

And they think they deserve ANOTHER multi billion dollar handout/bailout from taxpayers, another socialist handout for free, no strings attached at all, but won't commit to upgrading service or even keeping employees employed (considering their competence level, that's reasonable, a monkey on meth would do better).

Same story at United. Fly Southwest.

If one of these customer service crews was just found at the ticketing desk torn limb from limb by hand, customer service would improve instantly. A carry on bag full of sodas makes a great weapon, and drawing and quartering sends one hell of a message....just saying.

Just a side note, while airports screech at you to social distance every thirty seconds, airplanes are flying at capacity with zero possibility of any social distancing, instead you're forced to have physical contact with other passengers. Don't fly during pandemics unless it's absolutely necessary.

Plane Has to De-Board Because Lady Refuses to Wear Mask

newtboy says...

Thanks for the details.
I'm guessing, like the others tossed off planes for the same actions, she's now going on the no fly list?
I only wish it was a no public transportation list, bus and train passengers shouldn't have to deal with her either.

Taylor Mailloux told Newsflare: "Before we even got on the plane she was stopped and asked to wear a mask onto the plane, she proceeded to show the person checking her in a note on her phone from a 'doctor' and they wouldn’t accept it so she was placed aside and then I saw her board the plane wearing a mask."

The woman eventually put a mask on to board the plane, but then took it off once she was seated. According to Mailloux, she was approached around three times to wear a mask once on the plane. When she refused, the announcement was made for the passengers to all start deboarding the flight, which is when the other passengers became very frustrated.

Mailloux added: "We got up to start to deboard the plane and she decided that now was the time she was gonna get off and everyone else can stay on. Well, half the plane already had deboarded before she got off."

The woman eventually left the plane and the other passengers were allowed to return, and the flight left safely without the woman on board.

Assembly of the worlds largest fusion reactor (ITER) begins

vil says...

Oh yes I take ITER as good news, but it still leaves us 20 - 40 years from a... well I wanted to write a commercial fusion plant, however that might be a trifle optimistic.

Lets say we are at best 20-40 years from a functional prototype of a commercialy viable plant.

ITER is very much a test, any way you bend it. DEMO is waiting for ITERs outcome. Of course ITER will work, tokamaks have operated since the 1960s, that is like claiming a rocket will almost certainly fly. Yet we still stand in awe when it does.

It took 50 years from Einsteins nearly blind-guess prediction of a physical phenomenon to fission power plants. 50 years from the Orvilles hops to jet passenger planes. 58 years from Ciolkovskys crazy drawings to a man in space. In my grandfathers lifetime we went from horse-drawn carriages to the SR-71.
In my lifetime we have gone from landing on the moon to almost maybe landing there again some time.

We are slowing down or the going is getting more difficult.

PILOT DIES, Passenger Lands King Air

Who knew a Praying Mantis could kill a Hummingbird

StukaFox says...

Y'know, I saw that picture taken in New South Wales (Aussieland) of the gigantic goddamn spider that'd caught, and was in the process of eating, a sparrow. So I thought, "Huh -- that's some fucked-up shit right there, y'all..."

In your life, you will come to certain milestones, one of which is "accepting shit you ain't gonna be able to do nothin' about..." Y'know, stuff like Japanese people clubbing dolphins, the GOP and Furries. I mean, you're totally appalled, but there ain't shit you can do about it. You either accept it and move on, or head up to the roof of the apartment complex across the street from Anthrocon and see if you can get your name on the board.

That brings us back to the Dante-esque horror that was the gigantic goddamn spider from Boganland. What're you gonna do, right? You know that spider's paid off the Prime Minister and is on a Qantas flight to parts unknown (probably in whatever that class is that's above Business Class that the airlines keep totally fuckin' secret because of fears that if you found out they were serving dolphin steak and cocaine up near the pointy end of the aircraft, you might just decided to jump out of your seat, charge the hidden door to the Coked-Up Cetacean Lounge, and proceed to hoover every last flake of that fine, fine Peruvian blow -- or get shot seven times in the back if you're black) and will soon be consume children, the elderly, or blasted passengers stumbling off a Qantas A-380 with a wild look in their eyes and a coke-stache that would embarrass Chuck Barris.

So the moral of this story is: Jesus FUCK I love cocaine!!

Trump Publicly Suggests Postponing The Election

newtboy says...

No moron, Republicans couldn't accept the election results, Democrats were upset about the electoral college results, which were different from the election results, but they accepted them.

Um....what? Republicans were in TOTAL control for 2/3.5 of the last years, and in >2/3 control the other 1.5 years. No surprise the party in power accepts zero responsibility and blames the party they rudely ignored, stymied, and demonized for 3.5 years. Brain numbing stupidity Bob. Republicans are that feckless even to you that democrats have been running the country from the passenger seat?! Lol.

Daughter Banging Donny is going to prison 2021. Enjoy.
Bye Don 2020

Democrats will be sure to blame any issues they cause on Republicans for the next 4-8 years while enjoying full control of congress and the executive. Go ahead and whine, the answer to any whataboutisms is "Trump", we won't bother listening to your complaints, the answer is always going to be the same...."Trump".

Woman kicked off flight for not wearing a mask

Woman kicked off flight for not wearing a mask

newtboy says...

Boarding late only makes sense until others follow suit, then it becomes a contest for the last to board, and only if you have no carry on (or one that fits under seat).
It's also quite selfish, you're going to walk past and breathe on all those seated passengers just like you tried to avoid for yourself...and you would make others wait for the privilege.
If you follow directions and board in order from the back of the plane front, no one walks past those already seated....and no one has to wait for row 5 to get settled before row 23-6 can board and sit.
Also, no one has to wait for the last to board guy in row 23 to search through 15 full overhead compartments, leaning over and breathing over 15 rows of passengers while checking each bin before having their carry on checked anyway causing further delay.

cloudballoon said:

Boarding as late as possible makes sense. The problem is finding carry on overhead storage if you need them.

Lowest risk seat selection-wise and I'm afraid the longer the flight, the increased chance of the wider spread of the virus will negates the advantage initially gained.

The air filtration system is not in question, problem is the people breathing right next to and all around you during the entire flight. Their air doesn't go through the filtration system yet. When people going in/out (myself included) for the washroom, they act as the "spoon" when stir your drink: they mixes the air around as they walk to spread virus/germs out along their paths.

Rayshard Brooks shooting police bodycam footage

newtboy says...

43 wasted minutes with the critical 10 seconds that included the officer shooting a man who was running away in the back twice, also hitting an uninvolved car with 3 passengers because he didn't bother to see what was behind his target, kicking him as he lay bleeding to death, and refusing to render timely aid, instead standing on his body for at least 2 minutes watching him bleed out.
Cop is now facing felony murder charges among multiple other charges.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Rolls Over In Small Overlap Crash Tests

newtboy says...

Different test, driver side vs passenger makes a difference, but almost all those trucks seem to have ended up with the wall crushing the footwell or worse. I would rather flop on my side that lose a foot or leg any day.
Ejection is only an issue if you aren't wearing seatbelts.
Imo, the jeep still seems like the winner.
