How Amazon May Monopolize ALL Of Retail - Nerdwriter
I think Nerdwriter's knowledge of AWS is superficial (he admitted just finding out about them). AWS are not licensing their tech to other companies, they are renting time out on servers using their tech (mostly software). That graphic he showed of market share is also misleading - if you look closely it's just survey results of "do you use x,y,z cloud provider(s)?" (although undoubtedly AWS is the most popular by any measurement of # of customers, but it's not necessarily the biggest - hard to say because Microsoft, Google, and Amazon don't publish their numbers).
Renting time out on a server is orders of magnitude more scalable than installing and maintaining a bunch of sensors at thousands of retail locations.
Since their patents are vague enough, they could license that "idea" out to other companies who want to attempt the same thing, but probably they want full control of any brick-and-mortar store, to minimize support costs, and provide a consistent experience.
Plus, not every retail experience is like a grocery store, so it's a bit of a stretch to say they'll take over all retail everywhere...

The Epidemic of Passable Movies
Thanks for the pointer. Looks like his movie is available on Vimeo- https://vimeo.com/16598921
(24 min, b&w)
And I never said that nerdwriter (or anyone else) isn't allowed to criticize movies.
My point is that anyone looking for art in modern movies will inevitably be disappointed. The art in filmmaking has been replaced with business. And like @artician mentions above, creative work has to appeal to a large audience.
I'm not saying that there aren't any well made artful movies anymore, just that the ratio of those to hollywood-factory-churned-mediocre-fest movies is steadily decreasing.
Finally http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3943342/
So there. He has written, directed, edited, and even done sound work. (though to be honest, I have a bigger profile on IMDB than him, and I'm not exactly well-known)
The Epidemic of Passable Movies
So... has nerdwriter ever made an even "passable" movie?
(or even just written one, if not directed/produced/etc?)
1st world problems = "All of our movies aren't GREAT like they should be."

Watchmen - Adapting The Unadaptable
Zack Snyder Fundamenal Flaw(Batman v Superman) - Nerdwriter has been added as a related post - related requested by Mordhaus.
Watchmen - Adapting The Unadaptable
I disagree that it cannot be adapted to film. It could be done with a director that can function in a storytelling environment, which Snyder simply cannot do. The problem with Snyder was covered very well here recently, *related=http://videosift.com/video/Nerdwriter-Fundamenal-Flaw-Zack-Snyder-Batman-v-Superman
He was exactly the wrong director to have film this. I would have went with Del Toro or Whedon, but even they have their flaws.
Now, if the question is, can an adaptation be done that Alan Moore will feel 'suits' his vision? Probably not. He is an artist, in very good ways, but also in some very bad ones. He has a specific idea of how his creation must flow, which means he will never be satisfied with a medium outside of the graphic novel or comic.
Personally, I think one of the few un-adaptable works would be Gaiman's Sandman, but that's just my opinion.
