Red light encounter

AeroMechanical says...

Definitely. The guy was in a left-turn-only lane and cut into the right lane mid-intersection. On a motorcycle, in an eight lane intersection, that's just asking for it.

Yeah, the juggler was cool too. Whatever, get off my lawn.

"Red light encounter" could have meant a collision, but happily, it does not.

INTENSE CRASH | BIKER VS SEMI TRUCK

shagen454 says...

My pops had a motorcycle and got into an accident getting onto the freeway - supposedly wasn't even going that fast but took off all of the skin on his side. Can't believe this guy didn't get massively wrecked somewhere in there (and in good spirits directly afterwards)!

RoboBee: Milimeter-scale robot that can fly, swim, and more

Payback says...

I'm waiting for someone to copy my idea of using high-speed drones for police to follow fleeing motorcycle riders. Possibly with mounted tasers...

I don't care what side of the idea you're on, you KNOW it's coming.

Aikido - Hiromi Matsuoka

TheFreak says...

Gliders are stupid, jet fighters are the only real way to fly.

Aikido requires the same body/mind training as any other martial art, with as much physical intensity as you want to put into it. Yes...it's not focused on agression. I don't need to train to react agressively. I need the opposite.

Motorcycles are faster than tractors. That's not going to help me plough a field. If I want to compete in MMA I'll study a martial art that's suited to it. Aikido is suited to my life and my goals.

I would never try to argue that my martial art is superior for your purposes. It's superior for my purposes.

All that aside, the video is a really enjoyable demonstration of mastery by someone who has dedicated more time and effort to her art than most martial artists, regardless of what they study or why.

Near Miss

Khufu says...

Well as for the braking, bikes actually can't break as fast as a car often due to very tiny tire contact patches... breaking hard on a bike can be quite dangerous! My car can stop WAY faster than any motorcycle I've owned because with the car you can just slam on the brake and abs kicks in. and tons of tire contact. Also this is probably a go-pro or similar, so wide lens and everything looks way further than it would have appeared to the rider.

Predicting someone might turn left is impossible?!? Wow. Don't drive anywhere near me, please.
Also, sometimes a bike can brake better than a family car?! Unless you're comparing bikes with broken brakes to cars with high powered aftermarket disk brakes, that should be always.
It sure looks like a blinker at second 4-5, but I could tell he was turning by second 1-2.
Neither of them were blameless, imo.

Near Miss

Drachen_Jager says...

Or when you're on a motorcycle actually follow the rules of the damn road?

Yellow means stop if it's safe. He had tons of room to stop and decided to hit the gas instead. LOS doesn't matter, he was the one breaking the law, yellow light is the left turner's chance to turn.

Guy was being a prick and then complains about the other guy's driving.

There's a reason the majority of organ donations come from motorcyclists.

Also, missed this the first time round. He's in an urban area doing 60. So on top of running the light, he's speeding!

Other lessons possibly don't accelerate into an intersection with a yellow light when you don't have a clear line of sight?

Motorcycle Drives Off Cliff

"After this near death experience he says he'll never get on another motorcycle."

The motorcycle isn't what almost killed him, driving like an ass did.

Motorcycle Drives Off Cliff

Fairbs says...

was it brave for him to drive his motorcycle over a cliff at 65?

was it a heroic act for that kid to help the old guy down the escalator? personally I thought that one was borderline racist

Drachen_Jager said:

Sorry, but crawling out for help is not "brave".

Bravery is putting yourself at risk to help other people. Putting yourself through pain in order to survive is mere survival instinct. Most times, bravery is the opposite of survival instinct. People who run up to burning cars to help the occupants out are brave. Soldiers who storm machine gun nests are brave.

That word has been so watered down by the contemporary American need for "heroes" it's becoming meaningless.
