Mortal Kombat (9) - Official Announcment Trailer

Sketch says...

I thought so too. Apparently in 2009, during their Chapter 11 liquidation, Warner Bros. bought their remaining assets, and turned Midway Chicago into WB Games Chicago.

Really good news for that proof of concept movie trailer that went around!>> ^ghark:

So whats the deal, who made this? I thought Midway died and got sold off.

Gotta say, that jai white guy is insanely good at fighting action. He looks so cool doing it.
He better be fighting at some point ie. most of the film.

I figured he would portray Jax, and after googling that wikipedia page it appears that "Jackson Briggs" is apparently Jax's full name. So, probably. I enjoyed him in Black Dynamite, although it appears the direction for this MK wouldn't go will full-on camp so he'd be different (but probably still good).

Thanks for the extra info! Although I must say, I find the idea that YouTube comments would ever be considered a "good indicator" of how humanity at large would react to something rather excruciatingly disturbing...

visually this movie is interesting, however i don't know if i like how they interpreted all these characters..
Baraka is a crazy body-mod doctor?
Sonya Blade is a cop? (she's a special forces member)
and the whole mortal kombat championship is for thugs?
i don't know...this could turn out to be a stinker

afaik MK and MK Annihilation or whatever the second movie was called generally stuck to games in regards to characters. Needless to say, fail (especially the second movie).

Being familiar with all the characters and their back stories from every MK game, I have no qualms about switching it up to be slightly more down to Earth for a movie like this.

http://www.movieviral.com/2010/06/08/short-film-mortal-kombat-rebirth-debuts-online/

Today there was some mystery brewing about a short film that debuted on YouTube yesterday titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. The 8 minute long video looks well done (and possibly made with at least some budget), but there is very little info given about who made it and why. There are no credits, but Devin at CHUD figured it out. It’s some kind of demo reel/proof of concept for investors for a new Mortal Kombat movie. With the previous MK attempts falling flat, “gritty realism” seems to be the selling point this time around.
It’s still unclear whether thus is meant directly for investors or simply to show them the appeal of the material, since views and comments on YouTube are a good indicator of how the potential audience would receive the movie.

Samurai Princess - awesomely awful movie

spawnflagger says...

I recently found this on Netflix on-demand, by accident of course. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Non-stop "wtf was that?" moments. The English voice-over makes it even funnier.

There must have been a sale at the Body Parts Warehouse in Japan, cause they re-use a pile of severed human remains in nearly every scene.

This trailer shows some of the best ridiculousness - boob grenades, rocket-powered roundhouse kick, chainsaw leg (also rocket-powered in 1 scene), buzzsaw chest, 22 samurai sword holding ghost arms, a single-punch removal of the entire skeletal system (from Mortal Kombat?), and many more. What they don't show is magical guitar weapon the one character uses, or the CG monster penis that the final boss uses against the samurai ghost arms (and 1 real arm).

Apparently the lead actress is an adult film star in Japan (there is 1 love scene in a dream sequence that shows her best acting ability in the whole movie.) She should probably leave this movie off her CV, it is beneath porn...
