Don't go nuts IssyKitty, I'm sure I saw it and that was what I was remembering. I think it was that bookish and slightly slimy "counterpoint" to Hannity. Holmes, Colmbs or something. Thylan's right anyway. We do have a problem with entitlement, but you "can't lay it at one man's door".

I'm working on it. I can't seem to find it yet, but I will certainly link you to it when I do. I think it is lost somewhere in my billions of post bookmarks.

I don't really buy it either. You would think his emphasis on "community" would off-set all that. Fred's done much more good than harm, if he can even be said to have done harm, which I think he hasn't. Let me know if you find that Faux News clip Issykitty.

Wow! Did I tell you that I'm psychic? That is very cool, gorgonheap!

I was actually, I've wanted to be an architect since I was about 5 or so. And now I am! I'm actually going back to school for a degree in interior design.
In reply to this comment by Issykitty:
Hahaha^ @ gorgonheap! You must have been very inclined to interior design to have been bothered by that at the age of 5. I see what you are saying though. I did very much like the traffic light he had, and I wanted a train to run through my living room, as well.
Rare Interview With Mister Rogers (1986)
Hmmm. That sounds suspiciously like the Fox News tripe I've heard, where they had some report that was trying to blame Mister Rogers for what was wrong with our youth. I know it's been sifted, so I'll try to find it. I agree with Thylan that it has to do more with other factors. Not Mister Rogers.

Fred Rogers*Picture Picture-How to Make a Steel Pan Drum
so true, sometimes. My kids have recently fell in love w/ the guy. Since they're into Star Wars, Dr Who, Avatar and playing Halo I thought they wouldn't be interested. They don't remember seeing him when they were tiny. I DVRed a few shows a month or so ago. I was so wrong! They loved them and record his reruns daily.
It doesn't matter who you are or how old you are, there's just something about Mister Rogers that draws you in.
The Friendly Giant End Theme
For a lot of ppl who grew up in Canada this was our "Mister Rogers." Incredibly cheesy -- of course -- but still a stroll down amnesia lane...

Thanks for the promote and for all of the recent Rogers sift.
My daughter is now a devoted fan of Mister Rogers. I just realized the other day that Fred Rogers is doing the show on his lunch break. Just comes home and provides so much information, care, and fun on his break. Heroic.
Mister Rogers receives his Lifetime Achievement Award - 1997
Wow... I have always had contempt for mister rogers, even as a very small child- I think he creeped me out. But this clip definitely gives me pause. What an amazing acceptance speech, and I guess a remarkable man. I guess his problem was always that he was too nice.
Mister Rogers receives his Lifetime Achievement Award - 1997
Mister Rogers' Neighborhood won four Emmy awards, including one for lifetime achievement.
During the 1997 Daytime Emmys, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Rogers. The following is an excerpt from Esquire Magazine's coverage of the gala, written by Tom Junod:
...Mister Rogers went onstage to accept the award -- and there, in front of all the soap opera stars and talk show sinceratrons, in front of all the jutting man-tanned jaws and jutting saltwater bosoms, he made his small bow and said into the microphone, "All of us have special ones who have loved us into being. Would you just take, along with me, one minute to think of the people who have helped you become who you are. One minute of silence."
And then he lifted his wrist, looked at the audience, looked at his watch, and said, 'I'll watch the time.' There was, at first, a small whoop from the crowd, a giddy, strangled hiccup of laughter, as people realized that he wasn't kidding, that Mister Rogers was not some convenient eunuch, but rather a man, an authority figure who actually expected them to do what he asked. And so they did. One second, two seconds, three seconds -- and now the jaws clenched, and the bosoms heaved, and the mascara ran, and the tears fell upon the beglittered gathering like rain leaking down a crystal chandelier. And Mister Rogers finally looked up from his watch and said softly, "May God be with you," to all his vanquished children.
Rogers is quoted as saying, "I got into television because I hated it so. And I thought there was some way of using this fabulous instrument to be of nurture to those who would watch and listen."

I wanted so very badly to post this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaJQLgiXKO0
The embed at YouTube was disabled. It was Mister Rogers winning his lifetime achievement award. I haven't been able to find an embed yet.
What a wonderful, beautiful, loving human being. He inspires me to want to be a better parent and a better person.

There was a documentary on him the other day on Biography and I haven't been able to stop thinking about him. *promote
Mr. Rogers v. the GOP (1969)
Wow! I got goosebumps as well listening to his speech.
It was really nice as well to discover just how little of his Mister Rogers persona was an act.
