M&Ms And Maya Rudolph Troll The Right

newtboy says...

Um….while I understand thinking this is an SNL skit or something, it bears noting that this IS from Mars candies/ M&Ms…a real commercial….Maya replaced the cartoon spokescandies, to troll the right that lost their shit over what shoes a cartoon piece of candy wore.
They absolutely knew exactly what they were doing replacing spokescandies with hyper liberal, feminist, “woke” Maya Rudolph that I bet Tucker is pissed at because he can’t lust after her like he did a green circle with boots.

Lol. Turns out the Florida book banning session by Desantis was based not on the books or anything in them, but a supplemental worksheet posted online by “Joe” that had clearly been edited poorly to add things like Maya Angelou being sexually abused by her parents to math problems. Not even remotely CRT even by the fake definition the right uses….but enough for Republicans to start book burning.

Actually the math part of it is before the blatantly fake non sequitur word problem, “Y equals X plus two, three X plus six Y equals 12. Angelou was sexually abused by her mother's blank at age eight, which shaped her career choices and motivation for writing.”

That’s the example given by Desantis to excuse the book bannings. It’s a blatant fake, a fake about math books in Missouri, not Florida.

Your people. Anti education, anti math, anti reality, anti truth. You must be proud.

Edit: I wonder how long it will take you to solve that 4th grade math problem. I’m embarrassed to say it took me over 2 seconds….including reading time.

I actually thought it might be some weird parody - I'm bad with faces and the thumbnail looked like Maya Rudolph. Realized immediately it was... not what I'd hoped for.

Now, you give me an instructional video on Rockwell Automation's Retro Encabulator, I'm fuckin' riveted.

While I’m sure everyone is excited to delve into the intricacies of refinery maintenance logistics, why do I feel like some upvotes are more about the presenter than the presentation?

Idiocracy : A visit to the doc in 2505

TruthRuth says...

Dumb people call this movie “dumb” because it offends them. (They constantly make fun of dumb people.) It’s very funny. Another funny thing about it is that Maya’s character is actually the smartest person. She never goes to jail and pretty much saves everyone. She immediately knows how to deal with idiots (probably because she’s a woman

Unreal Engine's Human CGI is So Real it's Unreal

ravioli says...

What this company (snapperstech.com) did is put together an upgraded control "rig" to manipulate facial expressions, taking into account muscle limits and interactions, skin elasticity, etc.

A little more info in the video's YT desc :
-Adaptive rig: which allows combining any number of expressions using optimized list of blendshapes.
-Real facial muscles constraints: the advanced rig logic simulates real facial muscles constraints.
-Advanced skin shader (for Maya and Unreal): holds up to 16 wrinkles maps and 16 dynamic diffuse maps with micro details and pores stretching.
-Easy to manipulate using facial controllers and/or GUI.
-Compatible with all game engines and animation packages.
-Smooth transition between all the expressions.
-Adjustment layer: freeform manipulation of multiple regions of the face to create unlimited variations of the same expression.

The real-time rendering part is achieved by the Unreal engine itself. The final rendering performance still relies mainly on the hardware used.

ChaosEngine said:

Yeah, the real-time aspect of it is insanely good, although I'd still like to know how much of the rendering budget it takes up, i.e. is this usable in a game or just a research project at the moment?

What do you mean by "only one modifier is being applied"? Which is my other criticism of the video; a voiceover explaining the tech would have been more interesting than the music.

I don't believe that "multiple modifiers" would make this look better, for the simple reason that if you're demoing a technology like this, you end with ALL the bells and whistles to make it look as good as possible.

Honest Trailers - Iron Man 3

VoodooV says...

What I don't get is how Hollywood has apparently ignored the lesson of Spiderman 3 where they simply tried to do WAY too much in one movie and unsuccessfully tried to pull off 3 villain plots.

Iron Man 3 was just all over the place, The extremis plot, the Mandarin plot, Tony's little mental breakdown thing, the kid sidekick thing. It was so unfocused. Instead of doing one story well, they tried to pull of 3-4 stories poorly.

Maya Hansen was pretty crucial to the comic book Extremis story, but in the movie she was completely useless and was nothing but another woman for Tony to flirt with.

I equally liked and disliked the sudden character change of The Mandarin. I'm not at all invested in the Iron Man comics so I didn't care on that front, it was a cool little twist and the goofy character was fun.
However, Kingsley also did such an amazingly intimidating and fearful character I would love to have seen how it would've played out without putting in the twist.

Overall Iron Man 3 sucked, too much unnecessary plot complexity. Sometimes (more often than not, actually) a simple, straight forward plot works best for these sorts of films. Here is the bad guy, here is the good guy, have at it! I'm disappointed and surprised, I had much more faith in Shane Black.

When I imagine the conceptual aspect of religious experience it comes forth from the brain as something, anything, along these lines. When you want your brother/sister/mama/papa, intent thought your abstract feeling; unknowing and knowing and now you know. You're there with your brother and we're all from the same mother; zygotes to human hive, tricked into individualism maya don't lie.

I played around with animation with Maya and Poser for years until I got burnt out on it. To me it was only so interesting for so long. But this animation got my attention, very nice look and feel to the whole thing.

Peur du Noir (Fear of the Dark)

AdrianBlack says...

I did a little digging online, and I found an interview with Robert McGuire talking about this piece:

"...Finding the choice of technique took time...In the end we went with traditional hand-drawn animation, then combining this with Flash to ink and clean the drawings. Later, in some cases, we were combining a few techniques. There were all sorts of technical problems that needed to be worked out. Sometimes it was hard getting the software to look integrated. Some backgrounds and objects were created in 3-D. AfterEffects was used to add a blur to the light from the candle."

Very interesting! Here is the rest of the interview if you would like to read it.

That's quite an interesting look to the film, any idea how they would have achieved it? It looks a bit like a woodblock print in places (like the hands) but other bits look like fairly basic computer graphics.
I assume this isn't an effect you can just turn on in Maya or Photoshop?
