I'm the last person to claim any hip hop bona fides whatsoever... but this just seemed so apt for Macklemore fans.

Okay, I did like that thrift store video, but for some reason now I just hate Macklemore with a passion. It's not even that he's done anything to me to make me hate him personally. I just do. Never even met him. Anyways, all I know is that he better stay the hell off my lawn.

No, no... I think that Macklemore song is awesome in its power.
I meant the whole 30 couples getting married thing with Madonna wailing the background... THAT part was cringe-worthy.
Ever see Scrooged? There's a scene where slimeball TV executive Bill Murray is describing the Christmas ratings-grab stunt where the Pope will bless the entire Zulu nation. The Grammies' stunt seemed like such a similar calculated stunt... more about ratings than a genuine intent to make a statement.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the series that well. I missed most of the charm of this -- I'm not a musician, but he could have been helped mightily by some instruments.

I just watched Madonna sing on Macklemore's Same Love grammy performance right before watching this. Maybe that lowered my tolerance for dicey singing.

Although I gotta admire her gutsiness -- singing right after Mary Lambert? And then singing along with her? Gutsy.

She seems to be scapegoating rappers and black women, and using the wealth signifiers of rap music (washing rims in the kitchen decorated with bottles of champagne) to gesture at self-important “anti-consumerism” (as if an Armani tie on a hedge fund analyst wasn't just as bad). She's exhibiting the same kind of bad taste and myopia (not to mention latent racism) as other [white] singers, Lorde and Macklemore.

While she seems to be trying to make some kind of feminist statement here (“Don’t need to shake my ass for you/‘Cause I’ve got a brain.”), it doesn't seem to be all that feminist of her to be mocking the other dancers in the video for having talents she doesn't have. It also doesn't seem all that feminist of her to remain blissfully colorblind in a world that functions along race
