Russia's Doing A Superhero Movie - Guardians (trailer)

Cops Don't Like to Be Honked At in Colorado

littledragon_79 says...

As much as I'll defend police, this guy can ram his entire head up his shit-doesn't-smell ass. The rider can subpoena his phone records to verify that it was in fact a police related call, not sending dick picks to teenagers. And the goings on of a public official are abso-fucking-lutely the business of citizens.

I'd say reprimand and remediate the officer, but this may be the behaviors the bosses want exhibited. I think a lot of problems with law enforcement today need to be addressed from the top down...not always reacting to the end result.

Fed Up - Movie Trailer - Sugar Kills

poolcleaner says...

Statistically individual, personal commitments make very little impact on a population. I agree with the sentiment, but our views on "personal responsibility" don't work in reality beyond our individual family, they just make us feel better about ourselves thinking that way. You are superior. Good for you, but it doesn't put a dent in the real problem.

Reform works. For example, your children didn't make these decisions, rather you (and I assume a life mate), who are the institution of your children, made a parental reform and it benefits them greatly. Now, if you left it up to your children, what do you think they would do without your positive influence?

I'm a product of that and it has taken me years to realize this and patch the hole in my very being; years of bad habits and depression. I didn't have responsible, nor very smart parents, and I went to public school to boot. I was fucked and I didn't even know it. All of the potential to be an above average human and what did I do? FML'd. Flunked out of honors, AP, kicked out of the gifted and talented education program; though, I did provide that needed C average spot for Academic Decathelon, my potential meant squat. Personal responsibility BULLSHIT. That's an illusion and the reality is pathetic. I struggle EVERY DAY and I shouldn't have to.

I guess it's up to me to make up for my parent's irresponsibility, but most people just go with the flow. I guess if you don't mind paying for the ignorance of the sheeple, you can just let things be the way they are and deal with a failing population of dumbed down, unhealthy Americans.

Personally, I'd rather live in a world where people are getting smarter and healthier every day. A land where the government that tricked us (social contract) into giving them our livelihood, gives back to us, makes us stronger, more fit, and appropriately able to compete in a global economy. A land where the people in power work to make us better, rather than feeding off of our ignorance.

This imaginary world would abso-poso-lutely require reform away from the stranglehold dystopia the real.

My children haven't eaten a single piece of candy, cookies, or cake, since birth - except entirely by accident. When it does happen, we declare them to be defiled, and set about making another child. (true story)

But seriously, a no sugar diet really opens up your world to tasting food on a whole new level. Food is amazing. Refined sugar (white sugar, brown sugar, cane juice, fructose, sucrose, whatever-you-want-to-call-it) is a poor substitute taste wise, and is an absolute anti-nutrient (poison) health wise.

However, I prefer individual, personal commitments to change rather than sweeping public reform...

Why Violent Video Games Don't Cause Violence | Today's Topic

Procrastinatron says...

Exactly right. I like to play multiplayer FPS games, and in the one I am currently playing (Blacklight: Retribution, for those who are curious), it is possible to make your enemies heads' explode with all the charm of Gallagher smashing a watermelon.

It is, simply put, abso-fucking-lutely gorgeous.

But it's never more than a bonus. I do enjoy it for the sheer brutality of it (and that sound - like a popping balloon), but it's never the focus of the game for me. In fact, most of the time, despite the fact that the game is based on killing, I am mostly concerned with the basic mechanics of the game, and the constant competition I am in with myself.

Another series that constantly crops in these engineered controversies (and which was mentioned in this video), is GTA. People cannot seem to get this idea that teenagers are single-mindedly finding more and more ways to murder random prostitutes out of their heads, when the truth is that that's just one of MANY things you can do in GTA's sprawling cityscapes. I, for example, would sometimes enjoy simply driving fast cars around at night while listening to jazz. Same game, no prostitutes, or the wanton murder thereof, involved.

But then, I suppose "driving fast cars at night while listening to jazz on the radio" nets "news" outlets fewer views than "EVIL VIDEO GAME IS TEACHING THE YOUTH OF AMERICA TO MURDER PROSTITUTES."

As a game developer, I've come to realize that the graphics of a game have the most impact when a player first starts playing it. After a while the player focuses more and more on the underlying game mechanics rather than whatever violence happens to be immediately playing out on the screen.

Ie, a nonplayer sees their kid bloodily gunning down zombies for hours on end, but the kid is actually focusing on teamwork (multiplayer), scoring max points, reaching objectives, etc.

Police perform illegal house-to-house raids in Boston

Darkhand says...

It ab-so-FUCKING-lutely was mandatory. I have a friend who lives directly in that area and he was driving home from work. The police pulled him over, TOSSED Him out of his car, pinned him to the ground and (his words not mine) "Almost broke my wrist".

Is that VOLUNTARY? Unless you were there don't assume things.

Pring4 said:

The mayor of Boston asked for the public's cooperation in staying home so law enforcement could do their job. By no means was it mandatory. I went out for a run at about 1:00pm in Cambridge, across the Mass Ave Bridge, along the Esplanade, and back past the Cambridge Police HQ. There weren't many people out, but there were definitely some. I was never stopped or asked for my identification, even though I ran past police officers. If you're talking about Watertown specifically, though, I can't say what it was like over there.

I think we're in agreement that the home searches were valid. I'd be interested to see if any of the homes refused the search, and on what grounds.

Puppy Determined To Get On Treadmill

Asmo says...

1. The pup would be what we Australian's lovingly refer to as "a little battler" (typically someone who is deficient in some way but gives it their all).

2. Pit's can be as vicious or as gentle as you make them. The reason they make great fighting dogs is because they are almost undying in their loyalty to their master. They can be treated far harsher than most other dogs, who would either turn or break, and so can be trained to reach heights of viciousness other breeds can't hope to match. This obviously involves a lot of cruelty and it's something I abhor particularly, considering just how loving this breed can be.

3. Our half pit has only snapped at me once (during bone training, where I would force her to surrender a meaty treat frequently to establish dominance so that if someone came close to her while she had one, she wouldn't snap at them). My wife had half her face mauled by a shepherd when she was young even though the thing had always been completely docile. My son was bitten by his great grand fathers yippy mini dog who we had to chain up because it kept coming at him. My aunty had a horse who was so gentle blind kids rode it who tried to kick and bite me... What does this prove? Abso-fucking-lutely nothing, dogs are animals and animals may turn, often without an obvious reason why. It's part and parcel of owning pets, acknowledging there is a risk.

4. People who can't watch a harmless video about a puppy (typically videosift gold) without bitching about dog breeds really need to watch the video again and appreciate teh funneh...

Fiona Apple and Elvis Costello -- I Want You

Zawash says...

This video is so good - it is one of my favorite songs ever, in an ab-so-lutely brilliant version!
An even higher quality version can be found here.

This version was released on the American iTunes store, but is for some ****** up reason no longer available. I want this as a single, dammit!

You just fucked with the WRONG McDonald's clerk.

artful_codger says...

>> ^budzos:
You think a manslaughter conviction should keep you from working at McDonald's? Why? You realize manslaughter is by definition involuntary? Even if it was murder in the first degree, what does that matter when it comes to making burgers?
>> ^artful_codger:
wow, 35 comments and i can't see anyone asking the question "Why, McDonalds, do you hire people convicted of Manslaughter!?". I wonder if Paedophiles prepare the happy meals.

abso-fucking-lutely, the events shown in the video speak for themselves, he's too volatile to be working anywhere near civilised human beings and Micky D's should know better. Manslaughter vs Murder means very little these days, it's just a plea-bargain to secure a quick conviction and avoid expensive protracted trials. He shot and killed his friend and the bullet also hit an 8 year old child.

Wait, what is that?

Do You Know Who You're Talking To? (Sift Talk Post)

Boise_Lib says...

>> ^MarineGunrock:

@Boise_Lib: Again, mj works wonders for depression. Pretty sure that's been the focus of many a study.

@MarineGunrock Abso-fuckn-lutely! I fact that is my favorite medicine of all (not kidding--it's the most effective with the least side-effects).
I'm in the middle of job-hunting right now (good luck in this economy, heh)--so, that's out because of our fucked up drug war.

Sorry I didn't reply to your recommend earlier and Thank You.

The Pathology of White Privilege

GenjiKilpatrick says...

@gorillaman

Anyone who thinks white privilege isn't real obviously isn't brown.

You're saying that every brown person that isn't treated statistically as equal as the average whitie is purely a result of chance?

Which is obviously bullshit because individuals are responsible for all their actions.

[Even if our Ego & conscience trying to steer our dumb animalistic brains is akin to a flea controlling a bear.]

So while chance may have bestowed great riches onto all white folk and Aids, sickle cell, and markedly lower generational wealth onto all brown folk..

They really doesn't make up the whole ..lynchin'-motherfuckers-and-displaying-them-in-trees-because-they-tried-to-attend-school-where-there-were-white-girls.. gap.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also, HATE the "human race is all one race. See, racism never existed" argument.
I mean.. you've seen dogs by your age, right?
Labradors - dalmatians - great danes - jack russells.
Those are all within the Canis Lupus species yet they all look completely different.
They have different outward and inward appearance and are prone to different genetic disorders and diseases and so on..
So if dogs can have different breeds. Humans can't have different breeds..?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And finally.. WTF?! The study of history can't be applied to anything meaningful?!?!

Now I'm absolutely convinced you're either trollin' or just stupid as all fuck.

What kind of person thinks that learning the collective knowledge of ALL OF THE HUMANS THAT HAVE EVER BEEN ALIVE BEFORE YOU [about 100 billion] is meaningless?

You don't think knowing what all the other dumb humans did to get themselves and their societies wiped off the planet is useful?

Yeah i'm probably done with this. Unless you make some other awful intellectually compartmentalized rebuttal.
