FPV drone pilot is invited to film a power plant demolition

Am I the only one who thinks that the footage doesn't show....that much of the structures actually coming down, because of Mr. Eye-Shadow-Cyan-Hair doing loop-dee-loops?

you do realize that anarchism is incredibly diverse right?
it is not some rigid dogmatic approach to structural societies.
the political philosophy can stem from a strict individualism to a pure collectivism, yet both can be an anarchist philosophy.

i will post some lectures that can clarify our discussion much more competently than i ever could.

because it seems we are getting snagged on definitions.
i use the classic definitions and you retort with the "americanized" and no matter how many words we type to each other...if we are not on the same page in regards to the most basic of agreements, "definitions", then we will always be in the weird loop-d-loop of circular reasoning.

we will probably still disagree but at least we will understand each other better.

It isn't science or new or even interesting. It's been done and proven. USAF did exactly this in 1960. This just added a few hundred feet to their altitude.

A few hundred feet? Try an extra 30000.

>> ^kymbos:

To me, it's like those hotwheels loop-de-loop videos, except less visually arresting. Even with those you can get some 'Science!' out of it, but it's still a marketing activity.

Less visually interesting? Are you on crack? Look at that view. I would kill for the opportunity to do something like this.

I don't really believe there's an awful lot of science going on, but that's fine, it's not really about science.

Personally, if this is how Red Bull want to spend their marketing dollars, I say good on them. They sponsor a lot of cool and interesting stuff around the globe. I'm still not buying their product, but it's a lot better than being told that red bull gives you wings.

Why does 1=0.999...?

GeeSussFreeK says...

>> ^Ornthoron:

@charliem No, you are wrong.
Noone says that 0.999 = 1. What is true is that the number written as 0.(an infinite number of 9s), which we can write more prettily as 0.(9), is equal to 1. That means equal. Exactly equal. No equivalence needed.
Bear in mind that we are not talking about a number with a finite number of decimals. If we were, it would be true to say that we could get arbitrarily close to 1 without ever being exactly equal. But we are in fact talking about the infinite sum
9 (1/10) + 9 (1/10)^2 + 9 (1/10)^3 + ...
This is a geometric series of the form ar + ar^2 + ar^3 which according to the convergence theorem has the solution
ar/(1-r) = (9 (1/10))/(9/10) = 1
There, I just proved the equality for you.

Something tending to something isn't the something itself. Something tending toward 1 isn't, yet, 1. We don't live in the land of convergent infinities, we live in today. If you can right down enough .99999's that eventually turn into a 1, then I will accept that proof, otherwise, it is an estimation or an assumption. Unless you don't believe in infinite precision, that is. But even then, your left one something with a fineinte number of 9's that don't converge to a 1. Doing loop-de-loops with infinities, a reality in which humans don't and can't inhabit, is trying to abstract away the real problem...the same problem that Zeno proposed long, long ago.

Loop the Loop in a real car

^ I didn't know Fifth Gear was ever anything BUT a complete rip off of Top Gear, and a piss poor one at that.
The thing that makes Top Gear fascinating for me is the hosts by and large. The challenges are pretty cool (The Shuttle one still ranks as one of my favourite moments on tv), but it's the hosts that make them entertaining.
Having said that... this was pretty awesome

We are talking about Channel Five here, a channel whose sister station was named 'Fiver' because that's how much its television shows cost to make. Or that's what one of the Spice Girls told me.
