Little Kid Commits To Big Air

shagen454 says...

I think I was 15 or 16 when I stupidly tried to ski over a snowboard jump with as much speed as possible, nearly popped both of my knees out. Like this kid, cleared the entire jump by a good 10 feet right onto flat hard ground. And like you said, that was pretty much the end of my ski day, lol

Damn bouncy *kids! When I stacked my first attempt at a decent sized jump, I was nearly 30 and it pretty much ended my day.

Honest Government Ad For Proposed Australian Coal Mine

Well, at least you all down under can be assured and comforted that once the US is finished with Wounded Knee, ummm, I mean Standing Rock, Trump'll send over the combat-hardened police veterans to mop up your indigenous terrorists too!

The Raised Seabed and Lagoon Created by Kaikoura Earthquake

That is absolutely incredible. Recently moved away from San Francisco after 15 years, counting my blessings that I only experienced one 6.1 tremor. That one was scary enough to make my knees shake on end for many minutes afterwards but also not exactly dangerous enough -to not be a little fascinating. But, once you start getting into 7+s, I'm sure it's absolutely terrifying beyond description, especially liquefaction, freaks me out!

Samantha Bee - A Totally Real, 100% Valid Theory

Drachen_Jager says...

Seriously... who cares if he can read?

He's got three people closely connected with his campaign that are financially and personally close with Putin.

He throws out years of American policy and Republican rhetoric to replace it with carbon copies of Putin's policies (get rid of NATO, let Russia annex Ukraine, support Bashir al Assad).

Several former spies (including one CIA) have said, Putin recruited Trump. Trump is a Russian intelligence asset.

He has a private e-mail server exclusively communicating with one of Putin's closest confidants for months, with traffic spiking around key campaign events which mysteriously goes offline as soon as questions arise in Russia (as one analyst described it, the knee was hit in Russia and the foot kicked in Trump Tower). Days later a new Trump server appears and the first communication on the Internet is straight back to Russia.

Seriously, wouldn't it be BETTER to have a president (for life) who's a Russian agent who can't read than one who can? At least it causes some communication problems with his Russian masters and increases the likelihood he'll get tripped up.

What even happens to the US if a sitting president is found to be a Russian spy? Would he just declare martial law? Who knows, but I sure don't want to find out.

How To Correct Donald Trump In Real Time

dannym3141 says...

It's happening hardcore over here. It seems like sometime in the last 5 years, all the stops came out and it's become utterly shameless. They will say or do anything, and if they are wrong or found to be acting improperly they print a very small retraction - but the damage is already done. And other media outlets report on the false report!

Recently the Labour leader here has been repeatedly smeared by anti Semitism. They say his supporters are anti-Semites, that he doesn't express enough outrage in condemning anti-Semitism. The guy is famed for his tolerance and acceptance, says in almost every speech he gives that he wants to challenge any and all xenophobia, is the biggest cheerleader for women and minorities, has appointed the most diverse shadow cabinet in history, issued a full independent investigation into racism and abuse....... He does all of this, but now the stories are "claims of anti-Semitism appears to follow the Labour leader around" -- they are now reporting that they have reported false claims of anti-Semitism!

He doesn't even defend himself - he asks people instead to stop instrumentalising minorities to score political points. So then they claim he's not taking their false claims seriously enough and therefore not taking anti-Semitism seriously and the smear cycle goes on.

The worst thing about all of this is how complicit his opponents are in the game.... fair enough if you don't like him, it's ok to rubbish his policies. But this media misrepresentation is destroying a democracy that was already on its knees. And politicians, guardians of our society, manipulate and utilise this poisonous shit to get their way!

This year has completely turned me off politics again. To see what these people will to do an honest man has broken my spirit, but to that 70 year old bloke's credit, it hasn't broken his.

Need Surgery? Make Sure Your Surgeon is a Specialist

nock says...

Depends on the surgery. You don't need a specialist to do your acute appendectomy or cholecystectomy, but you DO need a specialist to do your knee replacement or ICA aneurysm clipping.

Also, I assume the risk reductions presented are relative - e.g. if mortality from a non-specialist surgeon procedure is 5% and a specialist surgeon mortality has a 4% risk, the relative risk reduction is 20% (absolute risk reduction is only 1%), which sounds really high and may be statistically significant, but in the real-world does not matter all that much. This would be called statistically significant, but likely not clinically significant.

Mr. Fantomas, I want you to understand something: we are not subject to city, state or federal regulations -- we are om-KNEE-poe-tent.

Om-KNEE-poe-tent.

That's POE-tent with an om-KNEE in front of it.

Stephen Colbert Is Genuinely Freaked Out About The Brexit

vil says...

Exactly, danny, all those miners have to find something else to do, because mining coal is no longer viable. I never mentioned laziness. I did not say it was fun or easy or fair. We (the state) could go on paying them to save their lives and dignity but please lets not pay them for useless work mining expensive coal that no-one wants. Lets pay them for requalification, relocation, pensions. I dont blame them for being bitter about Thatcher, I blame them for looking for scapegoats. Polish coal miners and steelworkers are in exactly the same predicament.

Brexit is a knee jerk reaction to the world not being the way some people want it to be, making it worse.

Colbert Takes the Gloves Off: Gun Control

MilkmanDan says...

I'm not well-informed enough about the contents of each of the 4 bills to concur with your "they were all shit" assessment (though I can certainly believe that might well be true).

But I bigtime agree with being against "knee jerk legislation" ... cough cough Patriot Act cough cough.

On the other hand, a very legitimate gripe about the Legislative branch of government is that it doesn't even pass "knee jerk" legislation because moving one's knees requires being alive with basic brain function. The Senate (and House) might as well be a fuckin' corpse with rigor mortis. Sits around and accomplishes nothing except getting increasingly putrefied as time goes by.

To be honest all the proposals were shit and didn't deserve to be passed, so yea for democracy actually working. Passing knee jerk legislation in the wake of a tragedy is how we got the TSA, Guantanamo, and massive NSA data collection.
