Joe Rogan Explains the Stoned Monkey Hypothesis

On the first article...maybe shrooms gives us an insight into what it's like to experience dying? I hope not, my shroom trips are always scary >> ^Fusionaut:

Psilocybin actually decreases blood flow and connections in the brain rather than stimulates. Can a decrease in blood flow cause the brain to increase over time? http://boingboing.net/2011/04/15/shrooms-limit-brain.html
Also, the human brain has actually been decreasing over the last 30,000 years yet we are still becoming smarter: http://news.discovery.com/human/shrinking-brains-intelligence-110207.

From what I've read of Terrence McKenna on wikipedia it seems that his theory is based more on speculation and spirituality than science.

I totally would have believed this theory without researching until he started talking about aliens. Whenever aliens get involved in a theory of our evolution it sets off my bullshit detector.

I have an android phone, but I use to...drum roll please...CALL PEOPLE! That's about it haha.

The podcasts that are important to my daily routine are: Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast, and The Joe Rogan Experience as well as Marc Maron's podcast.
In reply to this comment by kymbos:
I've just gotten into podcasts, having gotten an android smartphone. Are there any podcasts you would particularly recommend? I'd appreciate the leads.

In reply to this comment by rottenseed:
I know. I got an email from the podcast saying that he was on there. Haven't got around to it yet. So many podcasts, so little time. Thanks for the heads up though!

Joe Rogan on Retiring the Word "Faggot"

Smugglarn says...

Faggot, Douche, Cunt, Pussie etc all have one thing in common - they all refer to what heterosexual males fear and detest the most:

weakness.

All of those terms in one way or another refer to aspects of the female persona, be it physical or psychological. Inherent to that notion is the knowledge that women are weaker than men and traditionally dependent on them for protection. To be physically or emotionally dependent on anyone is to be a failure in the psyche of the heterosexual male.

That seems to me to be a base instinct, and can only be overcome with rational thought and secular humanistic values.>> ^entr0py:

What we need is a defacto, non-descriptive insult, which is not associated with a particular group. I think that word is douche.

Unless you count women. Men calling each other douche bag is exactly like men going around calling each other pussies. It's the association with vulgar womanliness that's supposed to be insulting. I could see both terms irritating women who want to be respected.
It really is hard to think a word that is a personal insult but doesn't insult a group. Not jerk either, masturbators don't deserve that sort of scorn, it's natural. Maybe ass? Even if the noble donkey does not get our meaning, doesn't that just make it more unfair and mean spirited? Poor stupid bastards.
I give up.

Good luck with that. We're also taking back porch monkey.>> ^Matthu:

Ahhh bullshit! Joe Rogan's a fucking faggot.
I really like the way Eminem drew the line in the movie 8 mile. He's battling and he points to the gay guy and says, "He's gay," then points to the douchebag and says, "You're a faggot."
People need to get way over themselves and let these words evolve, since, hate to break it to you, they ain't going away.

You're comparing apples and oranges. One word meant a bunch of sticks, the other was originally a racist term. One was converted into a hateful term, one has always been.

Nigger was not originally derogatory. It started as negar, then neggar. It was a variant on negro and, in the US, meant the same thing: a black-skinned person, generally from Africa. In the UK it also included Indians.

It became a racial insult because of how and when it was used.

So, yeah, @Tokoki is, in fact, comparing apples to apples.
