Starting up a Boeing 737---Airplane Geek nirvana

SFOGuy says...

It's no FUN to computerize it all with one START button.
And more seriously; it's not like software-only planes can't have problems either. The Airbus 320 crash at the Paris Airshow (low and slow, outside parameters ever anticipated by the programmers; crash); the Phenom 100 Business Jet (currently having to do inflight resets); but your point is well taken.

The highly computerized planes aren't less safe or less reliable; they just fail in different ways.

Aerial refueling in heavy fog causes MASSIVE sparking

From my ex-military pilot, currently sim military pilot trainer big brother, in response to this vid:
My Fuel Boom Operator Friend says the static discharge is no biggie, he would plug this guy and give him all the fuel he wants. He wouldn't let him close within a 1/2 mile without seeing him though. Once he sees him he will let the vis drop a bit more. He estimates the video is showing greater than 1/2 mile vis. Which means he would be closing on a radar return outside of the 1/2 mile point - skin paint only. The WX radar has to be off when he gets this close. Theoretically, the WX Radar might trigger a big boom.
I dumped fuel inflight in the vicinity of lightning once as we were in a world of hurt (Unsafe gear, no brakes, hydraulic leak all over said gear and brakes) - and there were no rules against it - and since I didn't blow up no new rules were written. This was my best opportunity to have my own WARNING in the aircraft manual - they are usually written in someone's blood.
I had an F-111 driver tell me the story about when he was frustrated with his wing man during a rejoin because his wingman couldn't find him in the weather at night. His dump mast was between the engines near the exhaust. So he hit dump, turned ff fuel dump, and then quickly went to afterburners. He claims the resulting fuel air blast could be seen with your eyes closed.

If hell had an airline this would be the inflight video.

A brief history of this "singer"
She lives in Iceland, considers herself a fantastic artist. Learned music in some school in india I think. Always complaining that local radio stations never play her songs.
She is basicly a laughing stock in Iceland.
And her husband shoots all her videos.

Moved to England two years ago. A man in their hometown(Sandgerði) offered to buy their house and told them never to come back. True story.

Hilarious Anti Internet-Censorship Ad

spoco2 says...

Damn you EDD, you post EVERYTHING I think of posting these days.

*promote this brilliant ad which highlights the DISGUSTING plans of the Australian government. It sickens me that this continues to be pushed ahead... sickens.

Filtering on by default, not actually knowing what causes something to be blocked, you have to call to remove it, you'll obviously be put on some blacklist if you do and then watched like a friggen hawk.

Such crap.

And our national airline, Qantas, just refused to air this on their inflight tv. Yet another (I already had many) reason to not fly with them anymore.

Great ad that hopefully puts why this is really important into the minds of those who otherwise don't understand the issue.

Sounds like an exciting job. I used to live in Alaska. I went back about a year ago for my 20th high school reunion.

That picture is of me circa ~85 and yes Alaska (for about 5 years), I was up there in Sitka flying on USCG HH-3Fs Helos. Fixer/Flyer (Avionics), in the air I navigated, worked our long range comms and assisted our Flightmechs with hoisting and inflight refueling operations. Primarily search and rescue up there with some fisheries thrown in (this is before it was all fished out...). My Helmet said inappropriately even back then 'Alaska is for Lovers', heh. The kids can't get away with that these days, nope. I really loved my time up there, dunno if I'd enjoy it these days being olde and frail...that reminds me, where's my walker dag nabit!!!

Not a problem. Are you from Alaska? (your helmet)

Thank you Dag most sincerely.
I was fumbling about trying to
resurrect it.
