AC/DC Guitar Battle

What is a dupe? (User Poll by blankfist)

gwiz665 says...

And so at @dag's 17m excerpt of a 47m video, I would look at both and use the criteria above

Can I replace one with the other without losing anything?
Is the essence the same?

It's sort of a borderline one, since they both demand a bit time investment, but it depends on the videos.

Another example: http://videosift.com/search?q=bill+hicks

There are lots of full shows posted. Would a single joke posted for itself be considered a dupe? All the content is already on the sift, but the "essence" is different , I'd say - and you certainly couldn't replace a full show with the embed of a 1 minute joke.

Dunno, didn't really like this.. it's a bit ... mm.. easy listening?

Well a 5 minute spot in a a show hosted by Jason Manford who isn't exactly Bill Hicks is not conducive to dark, edgy comedy.
Still he's funny and pretty accomplished for a youngster.

Sigourney Weaver on the Alien Prequel

HugeJerk says...

There was a comic that continued the story, it had Hicks and an older Newt back on earth fighting Aliens. After they released that steaming pile of a third movie, they changed the names of the characters in re-releases of the comic.>> ^Fusionaut:

I always wished that Alien 3 was about Ripley, Hicks, and Newt leading a team to the Alien home-world and kicking major ass. Or at least that Alien 4 had Ripley waking up from the horrible dream that was Alien 3, then leading a team to the Alien home-world and kicking major ass. I guess I'll settle for this. lol

the eyes should be open.
thats exactly how i got my evil kitty.
she had mites in the gazillions and her eyes were infected with a bacteria that only the mother can clean out and can cause blindness.
at least thats what dr hicks told me.
40 bucks later and my sasha was gtg.
now she terrorizes my other cats.
on the cool side she is so smart she listens to voice commands.
but dont YOU try to tell her what to do.
her claws are like scalpels...and she uses them.....efficiently.

Strippers turn the tables on judgmental church

How unsurprising: the hick-town strippers have more intelligence and ethical insight than the local pastor... but it's the Manichean idiot who gets the followers <IMG class=smiley src="http://static1.videosift.com/cdm/emoticon/frown.gif">

You mean the old crack, ummm, stripper? Well... can't say one way or another... However, it all depends on what the strip club attacts and how it positively/negatively effects the town... and old crack men are a def negative...

Jokes I like (Blog Entry by dag)

gwiz665 says...

I love jokes that take me off guard, where I can't anticipate the punch line. Jimmy Carr is great at make jokes that stop 3 steps earlier than you expect. He made the even shorter joke than the pretentious one:
"dwarf shortage"

but in jokes like those, the delivery is crucial. There's nothing worse than having a crappy story teller deliver a joke.

Mitch Hedberg was a king of the kind of short-fire, fast shooting stand up which is just excellent. He was also a master at delivering his jokes.

Bill Hicks is sorta the opposite with long-winded stories. George Carlin and Eddie Murphy is the same way. Most are like this.

Delivery in itself can make just about any story hilarious. I can point to people like Kevin Smith or Ron White for those kind of storytellers.

"hey man, if the engine falls off, how far do you think the plane will make it, man, how far do you think??"
"all the way to the scene of the crash.. which is where we're headed. I bet we'll beat the paramedics there by about half an hour." Heh.
