The Broken Window Fallacy

westy says...

this dose not 100% work in the context of goverment .

the issue is that often you have people with money and they are not spending it or it is just siting in the bank, or people are spending it on disposable goods.

the reasoin u tax is so the money will be spent on services that people would not normaly spend there cash on.

during recessoin the issue is not so much that jo publick is not spending anny money , its that the Huge coperatoins and super ritch are not sdpending anny money. this is why its important to tax the rich more than the pore.

I do agree however that you cannot simply just have the goverment throw money at things and exspect them to work.

Carbon Free "Green" Energy vs. Real World Physics

Stormsinger says...

Stossel's intro boils down to: If green energy was economically feasible, wouldn't it just happen? Without needing to take goverment money?

But it's okay to take government money and give it to the oil companies... Fukcin bought and paid for, I swear.

And the other twit is basically arguing that it's too hard, and any contribution is too small to matter, so why bother. So much for the vaunted American can-do attitude, huh? A perfectly matched pair here...losers (ethically and morally), both of them, sucking up money from the corporate interests instead of even trying to make a change for the better.

Flipping Racial Minorities the "Byrd"

bobknight33 says...

Democrats are the true raciest. Just look at history.

The Klu Klux Klan was founded as a Democrat proxy group. Many black Americans served in the U.S. Goverment in the 1800's and beyond as part of the "Radical Republican" party. In 1912 the 'Progressive' Democrat, President Woodrow Wilson instituted racial segregation into the Federal Government. Many blacks were subsequently pushed out of the Federal Government.

Toronto Police car burns in heart of financial district: G20

westy says...

surly these people would have lend by now that these idoic protests dont change annything .

pefect example milloins of people protested going to war with iraqu , changed absaluty nothing.

only way u can change things is if you A) have loads of money b) spend 30 years of your life working your way into goverment and some how dont get currupted.

Republicans Are Not On Your Side

GenjiKilpatrick says...

Yeah and the Democrats aren't taking campaign money, and never craft legislation to help out Oil, Insurance, and Wall Street. (eyeroll) And Oil, Insurance, and Wall Street are always evil and must be destroyed, right? (eyeroll) And Democrats aren't in the pocket of Big Union & Big Trial Lawyers at the expense of the people, right? (eyeroll) Vid bounces off my propoganda shield without effect. I'd rather have strong Oil, Insurance, and Wall Street than Government because private industries actually help people and do stuff, while government helps no one and accomplishes nothing.

Why do you have to be so thickheaded?

First, it's a campaign ad so of course the blue shirts aren't gonna call out their own mistakes.

Second, the reason Republicans neo-conservatism is worse than the Democrats fractured liberal views is precisely because of brainwashed bandwagon yuppies like yourself that can't or refuse to depart from talking points and rhetoric.

Sorry for the insults but you can't consider yourself an honest, rational person and defend corporatism while millions of gallons of oil & chemicals are raining from the skies.

Private industry and goverment are so heavily interwined that anything good you have to say about Big Oil, Big Insurance, or Wall Street you have to attribute to all the corrupt Democrats that help make those industries strong.

Your neo-con role models have convinced you that supporting Big Business is better/ more reasonable because that's who pays them.

They've convinced you that people suffering is less important than quarterly profits.

Which is sad because you won't realize the pain you've help inflict until you're the one with some horror story.

Woman loses her shit over American Idol result

Probably the greatest way to control people is to focus their attention elsewhere, such as huge sports spectacles and events like American Idol. In order to prevent a free society from being to democratic you have to make sure to neutralize the public, it's distraction...down to a science.

Yeah, American Idol is obviously a conspiracy. It's not a goofy show designed to appeal to the widest audience possible in order to make piles of money...it's a tool of the goverment to distract us while they...I don't know...do something...obviously something insidious...
Or maybe it IS just a TV show. I guess that makes more sense.

Hence why the brainwashing is so effective. Because people like you and her think it's just a tv show.
No harm could come to our society by becoming emotionally involved in manufactured "reality" show like this woman, right?
Meanwhile, on the rest of the planet.. Tim Geithner's shovelin' into money into the bank accounts of his friends at GoldmanSachs. BP & Haliburton are covering up all their crimes. and Blackwater's still murdering civilians and raping girls in cargo containers.
Tho you're right. It's probably just a tv show.

Oh, please. "People like you"? What a complete misrepresentation of what he said. You're free to provide evidence that this in is fact NOT just a TV show and that the only reason it exists in the first place is because it's what the viewers want to watch, however stupid it and they may be for doing so.

How people react and hinge their lives on it, and how the powers that be benefit/profit from these distractions is a completely different story. Again, unless you have evidence that these mind numbing excuses for entertainment are just a big conspiracy, in the way people on planet Earth normally define it. You might be engaging in intentional hyperbole (if so, then I apologize) but the whole situation is far more complex than the simple-minded conspiratorial ejaculate that some have left here. I see where you guys are going with this line of thought, but it's far too simplified to be taken seriously.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I think Heinlein's Razor also might be useful here.

Sarah Palin Real Estate Speech Bombs

Nithern says...

Hey Sarah, dont quit your day job! And if you did, don't go in to real estate. Or any other industry that requires 1) Education above 6th grade andd 2) Maturity above a 4th grader. But then, did any expect Sarah Palin to be able to talk on something useful and on the topic? Real Estate people, are typically Republican, but MODERATE Republicans. The stuff her Tea Partiers enjoy will never work to real estate brokers/agents.

I recall a speech Mr. Clinton gave a few years ago, on real estate. While the speech was to help promote a Democrat, he stuck to the topic at hand. He explain the factors, the politics, and enviromental conditions from a politically-neutral stand point. Something a broker or CFP would do.

It doesn't help most Republicans/conservatives that most Americans took advantage of the $8000 tax credit on purchasing a new house last year. Certainly helped the real estate market. Which begs the question: Would you, as a real estate agent vote for the Democrat giving you more business? Or the Republican, who believes the goverment shouldn't be in the business of promoting good work ethics and policy?

Interposition, Nullification and Secession

Lawdeedaw says...

I love how we pretend we have 50 states when this seems to be an issue of one massive state with 50 subsections. If the federal goverment wanted to ban gay marriage, medical marijuana, and command police to whip gays in the face with chains, then every state would be required to follow those laws. Yes, the courts would throw all those laws out as discriminatory or frivolous, except not all those laws have been thrown out. Great to know nothing can protect us from those types of laws.

When only one branch has power (the federal government,) we are all less powerful.

Guy Fawkes - G20 Protester Theatrical & Well Spoken

westy says...

yah there are load sof people in the UK that just dont get it ,

they dont reolise that in the end whats required ( as is almost always the case) is a ballence of goverment regulatoin to stop supe rmonoalies and welth migratoin to the super rich. and allow for a open market that is still competative through all levels .

people who think that a "free unregulated " market is the best idea are just compleaty ignorent to the realities that not everyone is on a level playing faild to start with.

its like in motersport saying IT SHOULD BE TOTALY UNREGULATED and what you would get is the team that started with the most money winning all the time. which would result in a lack of competitoin and no real piont in taking part in the race.

A tea bagger who trades his Joker mask for a Guy Fawkes mask is still a tea bagger.
Sorry to dash your free market fantasies, buddy, but you should know that the banking industry would whole-heartedly agree with your call for less 'state interference'. They made a lot of money through predatory lending due to deregulation and a lack of 'state interference'. The public was much better off when it had more oversight and control over the banking industry. The 'free' market capitalist thinking that has influenced our leaders since Reagan has made things worse, not better.
Downvoted for calling the other protesters fascists. Nazi Germany was a capitalist society.

Yep he's a tea bagger, being British and all.

Brits can't be free market fundies, too?

Rachel Maddow: Racist Roots of Arizona Law

Nithern says...

In Arizona, one can now be stopped, and forced to prove their innocence to a law enforcement offical.....unless they are white. Because if they are white, then its assumed they are in the country legally.

Yeah, I see this law not lasting very long. It fails on two seperate laws at the federal level:

A) The 4th Amendment against illegal search and seizure. An officer must show the burdern of evidence that a Latino-American is NOT a US Citizen, BEFORE, the Latino-American has to prove their innocence of the charge. A person is INNOCENT, until proven guilty. I would have thought those conservatives would have studied the US Constitution better then that.

B) The 1964 American Civil Liberity Act, Title 7. That's the one that talks about what you CAN'T discriminate over: like one's race.

Finally, I'm abit amused the Tea Baggers aren't complaining about the waste of money. After all, this and the 'birthers' law will get struck down in courts (that one, for failing over the 1st Amendment). Just think, of the amount of money it takes to move a bill from concept to being voted on in both the House and Senate of Arizona. Then it has to be signed in to law by the Govenor. After that, it has to be defended in EVERY court case. So yes, where are the Tea Bagggers bemoaning goverment waste? Hypocrits!

The birther bill fails, in that, it just takes one Arizonian Democrat to say "I would like this person's name on the ballot, as I believe based on the information, he/she is a US Citizen".
