ED-209 - 16000 Poly Model Made In 3D Studio MAX

Zonbie says...

Well I posted it because it was a nice model of ED - and I don't see how 16K polys is 'high' - You could certainly render this realtime.

As far as videogames go - high poly modelling is more important now - If your platform supports pixel shaders you can (like in Gears) render the high poly model to a lower poly model, giving you millions of polys of detail minus the rendering cost. In Gears Marcus Felix is 15000 polys (a higher poly 5,000,000 or more poly model is used to create a normal map)

It's a nice model of ED-209

Wow that API is pretty slick. With like 20 seconds of regex text editting I was able to grab the last 100 pages accessed. I could even grep for /search/ or whatever.

"Free" Will, God Style

bluecliff says...

Felix culpa is a Latin phrase that literally translated means a "blessed fault" or "fortunate fall". As a religious term it refers to Adam and Eve's fall and the loss of the Garden of Eden, known theologically as the source of original sin. The phrase is sung annually in the Exsultet of the Easter Vigil: "O felix culpa quae talem et tantum meruit habere redemptorem," "O happy fault that merited such and so great a Redeemer." The medieval theologian Thomas Aquinas[1] cited this line when he explained how the principle that "God allows evils to happen in order to bring a greater good therefrom" underlies the causal relationship between original sin and the Divine Redeemer's Incarnation.

The phrase "Oh happy fault!" is used in colloquial English, especially among intellectuals.

for a fiction list slaughterhouse 5 and catch 22 are also in my top-10 as are Goethe's Die Leiden des jungen Werthers and Faust. The Good Soldier Švejk by Jaroslav Hašek also comes to mind. Saul Bellow's Seize the Day, some books by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (can't choose) and ofcourse Bambi, A Life in the Woods by Felix Salten.

I don't read enough books to justify such a list, but screw that:

Lord of the Rings (and the associated Hobbit, Silmarillion)
Harry Potter 6
Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
Jaws - Peter Benchley
The Felix and Gotrek series - William King

Heh, I read a lot of fantasy.

Hmm.. is there one with the correct lyrics?

O fortuna
Velut luna
Statu variabilis,
Semper crescis
Aut decrescis;
Vita detestabilis
Nunc obdurat
Et tunc curat
Ludo mentis aciem,
Egestatem,
Potestatem
Dissolvit ut glaciem.

Sors immanis
Et inanis,
Rota tu volubilis,
Status malus,
Vana salus
Semper dissolubilis,
Obumbrata
Et velata
Michi quoque niteris;
Nunc per ludum
Dorsum nudum
Fero tui sceleris.

Sors salutis
Et virtutis
Michi nunc contraria,
Est affectus
Et defectus
Semper in angaria.
Hac in hora
Sine mora
Corde pulsum tangite;
Quod per sortem
Sternit fortem,
Mecum omnes plangite!

Fortune plango vulnera
Stillantibus ocellis
Quod sua michi munera
Subtrahit rebellis.
Verum est, quod legitur,
Fronte capillata,
Sed plerumque sequitur
Occasio calvata.

In fortune solio
Sederam elatus,
Prosperitatis vario
Flore coronatus;
Quicquid enim florui
Felix et beatus,
Nunc a summo corrui
Gloria privatus.

Fortune rota volvitur:
Descendo minoratus;
Alter in altum tollitur;
Nimis exaltatus
Rex sedet in vertice
Caveat ruinam!
Nam sub axe legimus
Hecubam reginam.

Learn latin, bitches!

Felix the Cat: Neptune Nonsense

Sarzy says...

I think that Wikipedia quote is referring more to the classic Felix cartoons of the silent era -- by the 1930s, Felix had lost much of his spark and had become somewhat generic. I'm a big fan of cartoons from this era and I do think that this is a very good cartoon, but it can't really hold a candle to Felix's silent stuff.
