Catch The Bear Man!

Angry chef tells Today Show ladies to shut their pie-holes

Olbermann's Worst Person: Dunkin' Donuts

spoco2 says...

Exactly KO, exactly. You have stated what so many of us have thought, it's not so much the right wing nutjobs who are at fault here, they're entitled to be nutjobs and spout their crazy talk, but it is up to everyone else to pat them on the head, smile sagely and then completely ignore them, NOT REACT TO THEM.

It is insane, completely insane and seeing as I haven't had a DD anything for a good couple of years, hell I'll jump on the bandwagon and say I'm boycotting them too

They can join Dominos who I already was for reasons given above, but that was easy because they are the WORST pizzas I've ever come across, I don't know how they became so popular.

And they join Gloria Jeans here in Australia, because their owners give thousands of dollars to the 'Mercy Ministries' who 'help' women in trouble (by telling them they're possessed mostly, or that their interest in Dungeons and Dragons has led them down their path to dispear... I kid you not, check out the application form and the tick boxes here) but then that wasn't hard either because I don't like their coffee either.

Man, what can I boycott that I actually enjoy?

Jack Chick, animated: "Somebody Goofed," by Syd & Rodney

Fjnbk says...

Jack Chick is a raving lunatic whose faith is the fringe kind of Christianity all people can be repulsed by.

This is the guy who thinks that telling the kids about the tooth fairy and Santa Claus will drive them to serial murder and death row.
This is the idiot who thinks that Dungeons and Dragons leads to Satanism.
This is the guy who misrepresents evolution in every possible way.
This is the guy who will write and distribute comics about little boys getting tossed into the eternal flame.
This is the jerk who insults every religion and portrays their followers as violent, rude bigots. Finally, this is the guy who sees the need to rewrite some of his comics for black audiences and make every character black.

Anything Jack Chick should not be supported, since we'd just encourage his brand of lunacy.

I've had a look at your lists and I understand that there is a distinction between the two ideas - and videos that would fall in one and not the other. However we still feel that the overlap is huge.

(If it was a Venn diagram, only a small crescent in each circle would be non-overlapped)

There is a bit of history here too. We originally called the geek channel "tech" but decided deliberately- about a month in to change it to Geek so it would be be more inclusive.

Afterthoughts:

I still think there is a distinct need of a tech channel. My aim is to have videos that discuss technology - old or new, not just show it. The problem isn't that most of the tech videos are geek, it's that people put them in geek - the geek channel is being misused in my opinion. If you will, please review these two lists I have compiled from the first 6 or 7 pages of the geek sifted list. The first is of videos that I feel don't really belong in the geek channel, but would feel more at home in a tech channel.

While they may showcase technology, they don't discuss/explain it.

I do not wish to to be a stubborn prick about this issue, but it's just something that I feel strongly about. If you still don't want it, that's fine, but I was hoping we could put up another one of those polls you had a week ago. If not, I'll just go with "meme" like everyone wanted in Maatc's ST post.

The Official Roast For thesnipe (and tossed salad bar) (Parody Talk Post)

Since you've all seemed to sit back and roll a joint as the roast is winding down, I'll post my semisedated response, although you poor saps were hoping I smoked some (mycroftholmz), it's one of the few things that makes me sick, nice try to fill out the whole hippy vibe but everyone know what happens when you assume....
Wow where do I begin. So much material and information overload. I guess first off, does everyone in this roast have ADD? I can't process what goes through those small small minds but it must be "ooooo blue link click bahaha snipe has long hair" and somehow that's about it. I can't say I'm surprised when at the moment the video at the top this week is a gamers review series that's been going on for months.
I started to get shrills when blankfist posted something about how I use dungeons and dragons, something with a cup and a warlock in which I had no idea what in the hell he was saying. Of course it goes to reflect upon the rest of the roast team that blankfist's comment was highest voted of this roast so far.
Gorgonheap really hit it on the head though, with one scary misperception, he mentioned Hannah Montana, which shows me which music circle is he's floating in nowadays.
Jonny, you commented about how I'd like to fuck anyone that moves, I'm not sure if I should laugh or burst your bubble and reject your advances now. Sorry mate but I don't think anyone would attempt that experience.
Zeph barely hit home on the anime subject but plowed the way to a very strange and disturbing level when other posted a face of me on the wii chicks body, complementing Inuyasha with my head on kagome's face. It seems as if schmawy and a couple others have a bit too much time staring at my pictures via photoshop.
Speaking of photoshop, MG, you may want to see that military shrink after all. Granted the mastery of photoshop to make me really look like I have boobs is one thing, but it carries all kinda of baggage that may be best confined to a place with padded walls. As blankfist mentioned I also think you may want to consider a bit of help when it comes to finding colonoscopy videos.
I do work part time and as inspired by what CaptWillard told me, these comments come from a collection of crew cut wearing 9-5ers who lack the experience of anything more thrilling than "hey did you read the latest Dilbert parody?". That must make your day.
All in all I laughed my ass of for the past two days. kudos for choggie, swampy and dotdude for keeping it hilarious and anyone else I missed. Many thanks for Captwillard for MCing this affair. It was a hell of a roast, and fortunately for you roasters you won't have to strain those peabrains of yours until the next roast when I can join back on the other roasting end.

Have you ever waited in excited anticipation for a lit firework to work its century old magic only to have it fizzle out a lifeless, soggy, dud?

Thanks for the blueballs...

gorgonheap says...

I think there is a lot of overlap between the two but I also find distinct diffrences between the two. The problem is more of a semantics issue then anything else. What I think is geeky some may see as normal or anything but. I think there are geek topics, like comic books, videogames, star wars obsession, electronic gadgets, dungeons and dragons.

Engineering however is more precise. Dealing with structure, ergonomics, design, creation. But to say that one is all inclusive of the other is a bit much. The two often overlap because both deal heavily with technology. On top of that the term "geek" means different things to different people.

Too simplistic? Yes
Making a mountain of a mole hill? Pretty much
Will Wayne and Sarah ever get back together? The polls are divided
If you could go back in time and kill hitler, would you? Well that one is for the philosophers.

In reply to this comment by CaptWillard:
How about this simple analysis: All engineering is geek, but not all geek is engineering. That is, engineering is a subset of geek. Kind of like all rocknroll is music, but not all music is rocknroll. Too simplistic? Or am I making much ado about nothing?

Thank You Mr. Gygax

Multi-Facial - Vin Diesel Short

8756 says...

Wow ! This shows me an other "Vin Diesel" than I'm used to see in blockbusters. So, i've read his bio. The guy is smart. The guy deserves to be known as a writer. And moreover, this guy plays D&D !! He's a nerd ! A real one ! Here, from wikipedia :

"Diesel has played Dungeons & Dragons for over twenty years and wrote the foreword for the commemorative book 30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons. In the 30th Anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons issue of Dragon Magazine, they examine the fact that Diesel played Dungeons and Dragons, and reveal that he has a tatoo of his character's name, "Melkor," on his back."
