Damien Rice - Rootless Tree (Live from Abbey Road)

Damien Rice "The Blower's Daughter"

calvados says...

Damien Rice:The Blower's Daughter
From LyricWiki
This song is performed by Damien Rice and appears on the album O (2002).

And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky

I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes

And so it is
Just like you said it should be
We'll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is
The colder water
The blower's daughter
The pupil in denial

I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?

I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind
My mind... my mind
'Til I find somebody new

Kermit the Frog - Hurt

I was gonna jump all over the comment that Cash wrote this song, but apparently it's already been done, and is an old comment. but just for clarification:

Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor) written in 1994. Released on Downward Spiral.
Johnny Cash covered in 2002. Released on American IV: The Man Comes Around.

Reznor is most definitely the author of this song, and Cash is not the first to cover it either.

Tori Amos frequently sang three or four lines of the song as an introduction to other songs during her Dew Drop Inn tour in 1996, most frequently "Caught a Lite Sneeze", and then again in 1998, as an improvisational bridge.
Breaking Benjamin
Sheryl Crow covered the Cash version on the television special Tribute to Johnny Cash.
Fightstar
Matthew Good, acoustic tour 2006.
Gregorian arranged the lyrics into a medieval Gregorian chant.
Kermit the Frog is featured in an unauthorized parody called "Sad Kermit".
Aaron Lewis of Staind covered the song during his 2007 Have Guitar, Will Travel solo acoustic tour.
Luna Amara
Jeff Martin
Montezuma's Revenge
Placebo, at the House of Blues in California in 2003.
Damien Rice, by inserting lyrics from the song into his live performances.
Underoath played it acoustic live
Sevendust did a cover as a tribute to Johnny Cash.
Howard Stern had his own version for his show, called "Private Hurt". He played the song while mixing in sound clips from his film Private Parts.
Westside Connection sampled the main riff for their song "The Gangsta The Killa and The Dope Dealer".

Note that if the same vid is submitted while it is already in someone's personal queue, it is a dupe and will be discarded.

this was my first impression, that i jotted down earlier, on spoco's Damien Rice sift:

it'll be an adjustment. but i think the P-Q really helps, don't you?
so long as no one takes advantage of it. by purposely not voting someone else's sift up, letting theirs go from the Q to P-Q, then sifting their own.

but, honestly? i don't see anyone here, being that overtly predatory.
and any attempt to do that, would be fairly transparent anyway.

i'm here to stay, regardless of what you set Q-times, etc, to be.

[edit - apparently, lucky made the P-Q still count, as Q'ed anyway. so my scenario above, isn't a problem.]

I specifically said I don't have any issue with people who like this song, so I'm starting to think you all just enjoy being offended and/or arguing. Spoco, I give you credit for making a meaningful statement in your response. Unfortunately you've joined in with the squirrel, painting a false representation of me with your own brush and then blaming me for what it looks like.

I don't listen to much obscure music, especially these days. Even back in my teens, most of my favorite music was known artists: Stabbing Westward, God Lives Underwater, NIN, Fiona Apple, Live... None of them were exactly underground 10 years ago. I've never been one of those drones who turn against a band when they become popular.

To illustrate another point, I'll use the Damien Rice video just mentioned above. I just watched it. I didn't like it. It's in no way bad; it's just not my thing. I can respect it even though I don't like it because it's still obvious talent. He can sing, write and play. He has put that extra something into his work... that extra something that makes him an artist rather than an ordinary attention whore.

Chewbakawaka doesn't fit that definition. There's a dozen people in the band and apparently not one of them can write a song or music or play an instrument.

Do I have "guilty pleasures"? Probably, but I don't claim they are anything but. People keep ignoring me when I say that I'm criticizing the people who don't admit or recognize this is a stupid, meaningless song whether they enjoy it or not. I've said previously that if you just aren't that picky and/or just enjoy a dumb party song, I hold no judgment. I don't really get you, but whatever. If you're one of the many people I've met, including several of my friends, who think this is a great song, then I think there's something wrong with you or something missing from your life.

On a quick side note, several people seem to have missed the fact that this site is all about critique and passing judgment. This is the wrong place to be if you have a tantrum every time someone criticizes you or your taste.

It's true pretty much in every online community though, there's not much you can do about it... those who have high exposure tend to keep it, and as time wears on it becomes harder for others to break into the 'group'.

I'm not bitter or anything, and still like throwing videos out there to see which ones stick

Just doing what I can to help out lower-ranked members. I remember what it was like. Videos from lower-ranked members just don't get the same number of views as ones from higher-ranked members. In fact to test this, once I turned diamond I resubmitted a few videos that died in the queue when I was new. They all made it out of queue in 36 hours, without even requeuing. Some sifters here don't want to admit that there's a bias here that favors higher-ranked members, but to me it's painfully obvious. In any event I hope my promote will help it get sifted.

Hey, thanks muchly... he is indeed incredible, I hope he comes to little ol' Australia to perform sometime as I'd love to see this in person.

In reply to this comment by kronosposeidon:
Don't know how I missed this one earlier, but it's beautiful. I'll promote it the next time my power points are "recharged".

In reply to this comment by spoco2:
Right, off to SiftTalk to me I don't understand...

Ok, back now, I do understand, and I'm kinda happy about it... sort of, although I feel I may never see another one of my videos get out of the queue now...

I wasn't going to upvote this, but I am going to do so just because I too find offense in overcast's comments... You don't have any guilty pleasures that are not high art?

I love 'good quality' music as much, if not moreso than the next person (See my soon to die sift as an example), but that doesn't preclude me from being able to enjoy this mindless song for what it is... a catchy song that can be great to sing along with a bunch of mates when you've had a few too many.

Am I sick of it now? Yes... did I enjoy it at the time? Yes... do I look down on anyone who likes it? No.

Do I lament the vast majority of drivel that's on top 100 these days? Yes

Do I preach my musical taste upon those who like said drivel? I try not to, as I know I've enjoyed some pretty abysmal songs in my day, and continue to... there's no accounting for taste. I enjoy some songs in spite of myself...

But what I hate most are musical snobs, who won't even LET themselves enjoy a song, even if they secretly DO like it, just because it's doesn't have the cred it should. All the while making snide remarks about anyone who dares to like any music that can be considered popular.

So, yeah... upvote for me against musical snobs, take your judgmental attitude and put it away with your collection of obscure albums by artists who you will scorn if they ever get popular because it's not cool to like them anymore.
