Please please prosecute these morons and charge them a debilitating fine for destruction of a public monument. I'm fairly certain at the entrances to the park there are clearly posted instructions (satisfying artician's suggestion for a 'sign') to leave the rocks alone and hike at your own risk. If people want to take a picture in a dangerous spot, that's up to them, not Mr Douchebag. Now no one ever has that option ever again.

while i realize there can be situations that justify entrance without a warrant...this power is extremely abused.
i'll note that i worked as an attorney representing victims of domestic violence in New Orleans under a federal grant for about 2 years.

i'll say this about the cops in these types of situations: in exigent situations, cops tend to be very, very light fingered. anything in "plain view" may be confiscated as evidence, and then it is good-fucking-bye.

Murder is a difficult thing to get away with most of the time, and there's a level of sophisticated social engineering required before you can really rack up a count, otherwise you'll get caught around the 2 to 10 mark, like most people serving prison sentences that aren't drug or theft related.

But in all honesty, murder is not lucrative unless you're commander and chief to an army. The real money maker is hacking -- why doesn't EVERYONE hack? People on the internet are just slinging their credit card info and personal information around willy-nilly.

If you're a homeless person, here's what you do: (this is assuming you are so poor you have no money and little education beyond your street smart observation)

1. Steal someone's smartphone.
NOTE: If you are unsure what a "smartphone" is, just look for the people that are walking around, seemingly lost, looking at their phone the whole time. If you feel in control, ask them if they're lost. If they reply with a fragmented sentence about "GPS" or "Google maps", you have found your mark. If you're proficient with this style of conversation, find a way to lead them down an alleyway -- you know what to do after that. Example: They say they know that their destination is "somewhere around here, they just can't find the entrance", tell them that's because "the place is using a side entrance down this convenient alley."
2. Steal a second person's smartphone.
NOTE: Hopefully at least one of them isn't password locked. If both are, keep stealing until you have one that isn't.
3. Setup a free email account at Gmail and then go to Craigslist and sell the first device.
NOTE: Or Hotmail or Yahoo or Mailinator or whatever.
4. On the second device, find someone on Craigslist who will help you reset the first device so that no one can trace it back to you.
5. Use Google to learn how to hack, or better yet, just learn how to create phishing emails.
6. NOW HACK (or phish)!
7. You probably gave up on life a long time ago, so if you've figured out a foolproof way to steal smartphones, keep doing that, because people with smartphones are pretty dumb and hacking is actually kind of hard.

The "if you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't mind being searched" people you refer to don't understand how the state/cops/browncoats/whatever can abuse that law. They don't understand that even though they are law-abiding citizens, they can still be victimized/harrassed by police. I don't trust cops AT ALL. They are revenue-raising, lying pieces of shit as far as I'm concerned, and the last thing I would agree to is a voluntary search of me, my car, or my home, whether I have something to hide or not. Here, we can refuse searches, unless they have a warrant.

Here's a case where cops right here in Oregon were using thermal imaging to detect homes that had heat signatures that indicated pot growing. Went all the way to the Supreme Court. Even though the police didn't enter the home, the action was considered an unreasonable search, and therefore unconstitutional. Scalia actually got one right.

It is a pickle.. Luckily i live in a country where police is much more civilized to handle situations by peaceful means. Even thou we have really fucked up search&seizure practices. Cops can't come to your house unless it's an emergency or they have sufficient proof that a crime that's happening in that residence is at least 6 months worth of prison. Mind you, we have very relaxed sentencing so 6 months is actually pretty big crime committed, for ex i got one case thru quick search: 7 times of break&entering, car theft and two attempts of car thefts resulted to six month in prison..

But.. So cops knock on your door and you open it (if you don't open the door, it's automatic warrant if they can see you're in but refuse to answer..). They say that they want to come in and search the place. They really don't have to have any evidence, just a suspicion of any petty crime will do. You deny their entrance. They have now sufficient proof that a crime is being committed right now since you refused a look-around (it's defined in the law, they can enter but not touch anything, can't open doors or drawers etc.) and the previous six months minimum limit is thrown out of the window...

You have a right to ask for a warrant and deny the search. But.. they can apply for 24h quick warrant by phone while keeping you detained and search the premises. If they find nothing, tough luck, you can't complain (or you can but it's tedious, long process that most likely will result to nothing..). If they find something, huuray for them, the search was justified.

Those are not cops fault, i understand that it's very effective practice and has a high percentage of success. But it's wrong in principle and opens doors to frightening methods for totalitarianism. It's the law that needs to be changed. It's the attitude "i got nothing to hide" of the majority that supports that practice, they can't see anything wrong with it. They are the one that needs a radical change in their attitude of privacy and freedom. But they are the ones most likely to follow to the bitter end and never lift a finger, ie the same masses this guy is talking about.

Hacking is now an all inclusive term, it just means anything we don't approve of done with a computer. The news can't educate anyone, and the term keeps being used ad nauseam. Sometimes I get lectured by older people on the dangers of hacking, it's sad that they have know education on the subject yet they choose to inform others.
EDIT: By the way there is a documentary coming out about Anonymous and their effect on our society. It looks to me like it's full of itself, saying that Anon is now seriously influencing geopolitics. I don't see any changes brought about by Anon so I'm not really sure how the movie will present it's thesis. It seems to me that the world talks about Hackers with a sort of awe, and some of the hackers are buying into it.

It annoys me how full of it they seem to be. DDOS is the online equivalent of turning up on the street outside of a business with signs and protesting. Its fitting in this online world that we should have online activism but calling it hacking (ok, I guess if they are running a botnet then you might just about define that as hacking) really only serves to delegitmise any cause whilst simultaneously giving the anons a false sense of importance or power. They need to realise that their actions, while perhaps well intentioned, are still only really a mild inconvenience and they shouldn't let their message be distorted by the medias poor attempt to label them. My 2 cents anyway.
