Denzel Washington speaks out: Where are the Fathers
More Black Men Are In Prison Today Than Were Enslaved In 1850.
Knowing the past is important to understanding the future. There have been improvements, but there are still disparities too numerous to list. The thought that blacks make up excuses is just ignoring present realities they have to deal with.
As for getting over slavery, well Blacks have been free less then half the time they were enslaved in this country. Studies have even concluded the stressful, violent and brutal traumas experienced over lifetimes of generations of enslaved people may even be pass down to there offspring.
Epigenetics, if one believes in that sorta thing, could lead to explaining why on top of current modern day racial based micro aggressions, bias and abuses of power things within the Black population as a whole in america are still broken. Neither political party is willing to address that.
...
The past is the past.
For the last 50 years Blacks have gained more and more equality and today have no reason not to succeed other than Democrat policies keeping poor people poor.

Off topic, but if you like this retro style Tron sort of stuff in video games and rhythm games - you might like the game Thumper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdRGg5810bk
It's almost like Tron meets a Tim Burton psychedelic nightmare to the Mad Max: Fury Road soundtrack. It's pretty brutal but when it clicks it's awesome.
Cyclist Tired of Waiting for Bomb Squad
While I generally agree, I think the cop that violently tackled the guy from behind was a bit overzealous. Did the cops even tell the guy to stop what he was doing or lay down/surrender? I didn't hear anything (but perhaps they did). That tackle was painful though - look at how the cop trapped the man's arms so he couldn't even protect his face from the fall. Brutal. The cops could have used a bit more restraint or commonsense...but yes, I agree that the guy that ran up to the bag put himself in harm's way.
Jesus, what a fucking idiot. He put everyone at risk because he was too impatient to wait.
The fact that it turned out ok does not in any way excuse his behaviour.
2 Convicted of rape. One gets 6 months the other 15 years
Yep, exactly the same crimes.....
Victims testimony....after describing the impacts of the brutal racially motivated gang rape by 4 men that Batey pled guilty to, which they filmed and posted online to haunt her for life....
“Mr. Batey continued to abuse and degrade me, urinating on my face while uttering horrific racial hate speech that suggested I deserved what he was doing to me because of the color of my skin. He didn’t even know who I was.”
Batey was then sentenced to the MINIMUM sentence possible for just one of his many convictions.

Turner was convicted of fingering a drunk maybe unconscious girl, felony sexual assault not gang rape as a hate crime, disgusting to be sure but hardly a brutal, violent, racially motivated degrading gang rape and violent attack filmed so as to continue the attack for life, and Turner was sentenced based on the probation departments recommendations which were actually longer than the minimum, and also include registration for life as a sex offender.

Stop being a race baiter crying wolf, I'll call you on it every time.

Response to Trump's Video Game Montage - #GameOn
I'm glad they went this route.
There's a certain attitude that says that only cute, indie games about children with big heads lost in a scary world can be art (shamelessly stole that from Zero Punctuation), but big-budget action games are disposable nonsense.
And there certainly ARE plenty of good, clever, indie games and insanely dumb, tone-deaf, "press f to pay respects" AAA games.
But you can have violence be a part of your story and still be a good story. Hell, your story can be about violence and what it does to you. Spec Ops: The Line is a great example of this.
It's disingenuous to say that video games are nothing but sadistic murder simulators, but it would be equally disingenuous to pretend they're all sweetness and light.
The first God of War is as brutal and sadistic as they come and it's a great game. "Hatred" sets out to be the most brutal and sadistic game ever but it's terrible.
Ok, it just seemed odd in a video responding to Trump's m rated game video. It made sense to me to counter that with a g rated game video with no violence at all. Granted, this is more honest in it's depiction of games in general, but doesn't juxtapose as strongly.
FORTNITE (Honest Game Trailers)
Fortnite is right up there with any MOBA in being completely hostile to new players. There's no tutorial, if you try it you'll just die immediately to someone with vastly better weapons, and when you die, you might as well leave the server because you're not coming back to life.
I really don't get how so many people get past the brutal learning curve, but there is fun to be had once you watch a few videos that describe how the hell to play.
"I would have run into Florida School ... Unarmed" trump
It's the Malazan book of the Fallen, a series of books actually.
It's a fantasy series with magic and gods, but it gives a more accurate and unflinching look at human history than any history textbook ever has. It gives a very personal look at soldiers on all sides of wars being waged and the brutal choices forced upon them in very cruel world. Another quote from the series summarizes what sticks with me the most:
"The harder the world, the fiercer the honour."
It's the difference between heroic acts demonstrating actual sacrifices, versus hero's 'risking' dangers that we know will never harm them.
what is your favorite book? I'm guessing Hemmingway
Perception of programming versus the reality
This is so true...
Programming without the internet was tough. I remember my early years of programming in ASM and C/C++. The only internet access was via BBSes and Trumpet Winsock. Your only source of real help was from Usenet groups and questionable help files. There was no such thing as Intelli-sense (as we know it now) or auto-complete; you pretty much had to memorize the parameters for all Win32 API calls and the STL for C++ was brutal to use. Programming nowadays is relatively easy in comparison - pretty much anyone can code thanks to the internet and fantastic online resources. Heck, my 7 yr old daughter is learning to write code using a Scratch-derived visual programming language and Cosmo (look it up, it's awesome). I started "coding" at 8 by typing out programs from an adventure game programming book, in BASIC (think old Infocom games, like Wishbringer/Zork, etc).
The challenge in today's programming environment is the rapid pace of change. It's so f'n hard to keep up with every new toolkit, platform, library, programming language enhancements, etc.
Changing shifts at a French lighthouse in the Iroise Sea
Brutal. We've got one in Crescent city that's similar, but with more exposed rocks surrounding it. Now they use helicopters here.
