Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Wage Gap

Arg says...

I found this programme to be a fascinating investigation into gender differences, which tries to find reasons to explain the career choices made by men and women.

Please don't be put off by the subtitles. Some of the interviews are conducted in English.

Jeremy Scahill: media has failed to cover massacre in Gaza

LarryASingleton says...

99.9% of the knuckleheads commenting here negatively about Israel have never read, let alone heard of, books like Andrew Bostom's Legacy of Jihad and Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism. Or From Time Immemorial by Joan Peters. Or a book I just started, A Lethal Obsession by Robert Wistrich. Thing is I'm one of these "hope springs eternal" guys because I keep thinking people are like me who was once about as close to being a card carrying member of the KKK as you can be without actually being one. Until I read some books like Malcolm X. Black Like Me and others. While I was in Jr. High getting jumped by black kids trying to punch and stomp my guts out. The useful idiots limit this "conflict" to simply Muslims against Jews yet its a lot more profound than that:

Supplemental Article “The First and Last Enemy: Jew Hatred in Islam.” by Bostom (Frontpage Magazine archive)
http://archive.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=28549

People just refuse to acknowledge the Jew-Hatred that is part of a Muslims DNA. Don't believe what those Interfaith frauds tell you. "Moderate" or not; if you don't hate Jews you're not a true Muslim. If you don't believe that please explain the hatred that is like a disease in Gaza. And if you have half a brain you know it's been there LONG before Israel won its Independence.

NY Man Dies After Struggle With NYPD

artician says...

Why is there not more screaming in this video? Why is there no condemnation of the murderers? This just goes along with the videos @chingalera posted recently. I feel these are the more valuable videos to post though (sorry chingalera).
Most cops are kind of shitty for putting up with the institutionalized brainwashing. There are more cops who are downright shit. That I recognize that some legitimately want to make a difference for the good of everyone keeps me from condemning them all, but I still condemn 95% of them.
It enrages me that this continues to happen, and these Robot Thugs are don't get beaten down by the public immediately.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Wealth Gap

VoodooV says...

wow, you've been brainwashed. how's that "soon to have" mentality working out for you? How much in capital gains tax did you pay last year? Let me guess...none.

you are the poster child for voting against your own interests.

nice strawman. I don't see a lot of people sitting around, I see people trying to change things. and *gasp* making it part of the national conversation is part of that.

the right loves to rail against the European mentality of people being born into wealth, but that's exactly what we are creating. Romney - born into wealth. The Bush family - born into wealth. maybe a long time ago, someone in their family did work hard to get where they are, or in all likelyhood, they got lucky, they were in the right place, right time. From then on, it's just a game of maintaining that wealth. which buys you politicians to help you keep that wealth.

You probably can't hear me, probably still planning out what you're going to do with your lottery winnings.

I don't get it if you want to be better off then go figure out a way and drive toward it. Quit bitching about " those rich bastards".

I suppose I could just watch TV all night and complain like everybody else with and have my hand out for some government cheese or for the government to strip the rich of its earnings and hand out more cheese.

I want to be better off and working toward making it better. Its a long road but I believe I will get there.

Today I made a $1000 bucks and last month I made 38% on my money.
I also buy and sell motorcycles for some extra spending cash. I'm always trying to better myself financially.

My dad lost everything he had when he was in his late 30's in 10 years he had it back. He is retired and living well. I wouldn't call him rich but his money will outlast him. He did it, a high school educated man.

America is still the best country You can make you own mark. It's up to you and you alone.

I dunno, it's kinda depressing to me (and I'm not even bloody American or living in the US...)

You really have to wonder how 330+ million people all got brainwashed in to believing they can't change the system they live under, particularly in the so called greatest democracy in the world... = \

HBOs 'Questioning Darwin' - Creationists Talk Creationism

Canada creates Gayest video ever

A10anis says...

This is my last response. Listen; "shaming" doesn't work. In fact you contradict yourself by saying; "Matter of fact, psychologically, it's one of the surest ways to endure behavior." Shaming endures behaviour? What are you talking about? Education works. It really is that simple. Stop the brainwashing of kids by zealots. Stop the education of kids by bronze age mythology. And stop using infantile ads, like these, to try and "inform," when all they do is confirm, to homophobes, their prejudices. Mature debate and education, education, education will ultimately win any homophobic arguement. I'm done..

shatterdrose said:

It's called shaming. Look it up. And yes, it does work. Matter of fact, psychologically, it's one of the surest ways to endure behavior. Unfortunately, we've lost that in America with teachers barred from using red ink, giving bad grades and every little league athlete getting an award.

When 90% of the worlds population is making fun of you, you begin to rethink your stance. And conversely, it's the same tactic bullies use but only in a negative way. As you said, "human nature" is to conform with a little room for individualism. People want to fit into the crowd, and when you're the only one gay-bashing, you stand out in a very negative way when everyone is either ignoring you or calling you an idiot.

(Not to mention, ads like this cause those of us who support gay rights to cheer louder thus making it harder for those beating up LGBT's to get away with their acts feeling like they did the whim of society. It's called Mob Behavior. It's also very human . . .)

Not Everyone Is Cut Out To Be A Soldier

enoch says...

@chingalera
to say that every person who joins the military has some form of broken empathy system is just not accurate.
do they exist?
well i would have to concede that they do.what those numbers are is not something that can be quantified.(i looked..came up with nada).

i was in the military.
many people were in the military and they all had different reasons for joining.
for some it was a way out of poverty.
others it was duty.(which was my case)
some even due to a sense of honor and to fight for freedom.(yeah yeah..we both know how that reason turned out for them).

and i am sure sprinkled in that number of recruits were the sociopaths and psychopaths, and the number may have possibly risen due to the abolishment of conscription.

when you understand that boot camp is basically brainwashing 101.the young and fairly innocent are the easiest to break down and build back up in the model that you wish them to be.

killing is NOT a natural human activity.
it needs to be taught.
and who better than an 18 yr old?

for people such as you or i,who have a lifetime of experience, morality and well established egocentric systems in place this brainwashing would almost certainly fail.

who am i kidding....it failed when i was 18.i had a huge problem with authority even then.so i did my tour and opted out.

understand i am not making a moral argument for or against the military, just that these young men all had their reasons for joining and not all of them were to kill other humans.

and yes.
the military aint for everybody.

Diane Feinstein's Signature Party-Line Diatribe in True Form

A10anis says...

You say; "what we are doing is evil." So, by default, what these ignorant, brainwashed, bronze-aged morons are doing is justified? Know your enemy. Defeat your enemy. But, if the likes of you, ignore the obvious enemy, you do so at your, and our, peril. And you do so at the peril of everything you, obviously, take for granted. The wests demise will be caused by the appeasers and the blind.

I don't really care about their stupid antics at TYT. However yes if you want to fight terrorism, increasing terrorism is a stupid way to do it. Says all the terrorist experts including the CIA. It is completely predictable the increase in terrorism, we predicted it and it happened.

We shouldn't just leave them alone, because we wouldn't be we've already destroyed their countries. We should do what the British and the IRA did when they addressed legitimate grievances. There are legitimate reasons why people are upset and supporting a few wackjob terrorists. Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda wouldn't have any support if it wasn't for the US and it's recruitment machine of killing innocent people who have no hatred for the US and thus turning their families into utter psychopaths some would say rightly so.

So yes there are things we can absolutely do, what we're doing isn't working, it wasn't predicted to work, and we should stop doing it because it's fucking evil.

banned from the bible-the book of Enoch

A10anis says...

Saying that; "All religions are based on ignorance, fear and control," is NOT a "blanket statement," nor is it a "broad generalisation." It is, simply, a fact. You say that; "religion should be criticized, debated and discussed and
the underlying philosophies should be examined for their veracity." Well, myriad great thinkers who have done just that. Their conclusion? There may, indeed, be a superior force. But the "gods" portrayed in literature, of any faith, are clearly man made. In fact, the gods of man can be seen as nothing more than divine dictators, cruel and vengeful.
I would never call followers of religion dumb. I would, however, say that they are intellectually lazy in accepting their brainwashing without question. If, of course, they enjoy being slaves then they are free to be so. As long as their bronze age cults are kept to themselves, and out of schools and politics.

enoch said:

@A10anis
that was probably the most smug and condescending comment i have seen in awhile.

it has the appearance at first glance of being a thoughtful criticism of religion but in reality is just a childish swipe at people of a religious flavor.

intelligent people tend to avoid blanket statements and broad generalizations.

religion should be criticized, debated and discussed.
the underlying philosophies should be examined for their veracity and their ability for practical applications in a modern world.

but your commentary does none of the above.
you just used this video thread as an opportunity to call religious folk dumb.
well..dumber than you.

and you did it without ever watching the video.
yeah..thats classy.

Cops using unexpected level of force to arrest girl

ChaosEngine says...

No. I'm not doing this. I don't know if you're being condescending or trying to appear intellectual or if you have some genuine inability to communicate clearly, but I cannot be bothered engaging. It's like trying to debate Deepak Chopra... it's just a mass of run-on sentences and points hidden behind pseudo-intellectual mumbo-jumbo.

Also, funnily enough, I'm not interested in arguing with someone who believes they are superior because they alone can see the "programming" that the rest of us sheeple have been brainwashed with.

chingalera said:

@ ChaosEngine-One example of cops barely being able to handle a situation that grows increasingly widespread, reaching into the land of the mounties as well-Believe it ChaosEngine, that prisons and the military and the police all follow the same recruitment scenario with a larger picture beyond what you and most so flippantly believe in using your senses and the programming that has been driven-into you 24/7 365 through constant reinforcement through television commentators, so-called alternative media sources, et-all.

Speaking with someone form Canada recently regarding corporal punishment in U.S. schools, they were aghast to hear that such a thing exists or existed this due primarily to a completely alternate scenario there, their TV programming not having been hi-jacked by perpetrators of the condition that exists in America today, rampant crime, over-bloated prisons, homelessness, poverty of education, a few items on a long list of defective and deliberate aspects of the control-grid of assholes who run the show.

Say that you are not effected by such a ruse and you either are oblivious or from another country. You simply haven't been to war yet nor have you likely never been a victim of injustices that effected yourself on a personal level.

Admittedly, I have always fought the system's cues to conform to injustices, and the fight is daily, as evidenced here in trying to convince those still inebriate, of an obvious condition. SO they whined and justified their actions. Great. The State says its ok, it must be thus, right?

Why Iran hates us

Why Iran hates us

A10anis says...

Classic example of "gods love."

Knock, knock!
"Who's there?"
"God, let me in."
"Why, What do you want?"
"I've come to save you."
"Save me from what?"
"From what I'll do to you if you don't let me in."

In the 21st century no sane, rational, non-brainwashed, free thinking intelligent human, could believe in the vainglorious, megalomaniacal, vindictive "god" presented by ANY religion. But, of course, the religious are none of these things. They are like children, frightened of the bogey man, who believe that if they worship, bow and prostrate themselves, they will live forever in an eternity of, well, er, worship. Jeez, what a sad bunch. The frightening thing, is that these "believers" are intent on dragging us all down with them.

Evangelicals Build and Burn a Straw Man on the Silver Screen

A10anis says...

The statement; "god's not dead." is a non sequitur. For him/her/it to be dead, he/she/it would have had to have existed in the first place which is, obviously, not the case. Well, at least obvious to rational, logical, free thinking, intelligent, non-brainwashed people.

The Newsroom - Why Will is a Republican

RFlagg says...

I don't think the people who think the Republican party is doomed understand just how brainwashed their people are. I have to hear Fox news every day, and hear comments from conservatives every day about how everything is going to hell in a hand basket and only the Republican party can save them. It's becoming clear that all this is just galvanizing the core. They think they are being repressed, they think there is a war against Christianity (which is funny since the Republican party is perhaps the most polar opposite of the 4 larger parties, and certainly of the two majors, to the teachings of Jesus) and only Republicans will help stop that war. Their churches are telling them there is a war against Christians and how they are being repressed and to vote Republican to save them. These people, once they can no longer deny that the climate is warming and is man made, will just point how it is the end times and continue to ignore it, because Jesus is coming soon anyhow. It's like that cartoon where the rich man takes 99 of the 100 cookies, the middle class guy takes one and the poor guy has just crumbs and the rich man warns the middle class guy to watch out, that the poor guy wants his cookie, and rather than be mad at the guy who took 99 of the cookies, he actually gets mad at the poor guy for wanting one. They don't care that a rich man fires over 1000 people and keeps everyone else at minimum for 4 years without raises so he can have a jet, they see those minimum wage workers and the people he fired as the enemy. They honestly believe the big corporate media machine is the "liberal media", disregarding the fact they are very much interested in keeping the status qua going, rather than expose the truth of growing income gap in this country. By 2016 most people will have forgotten the shutdown and those that remember it won't remember it is the Republican's fault, yes, the progressives will remember, but the conservatives blame the Democrats, liberals and progressives anyhow, and the rest won't care by then. The Fox News watchers, Rush listeners are just more solidly believing now that everything is the fault of the poor and the needy and the liberals, Democrats and progressives that want to help them.

TLDR: Those seeing the end of the Republican party, must not be around the hard core enough to see how brainwashed they are by Fox, Rush and their churches. All this just solidifies their anger.
