How to play the Imperial March on a toad in youtube

Lumm says...

Annotation reads "While watching this video press 6,6,6,8,5,6,8,5,6,3,3,3,2,5,6,8,5,6"

Why didn't I just include that in the video description earlier? *gives head a shake*

I'm not even given the options to turn the annotations on.

I went to Youtube to get settings - I don't play piano, and I couldn't make this work either, could barely get past the first four notes. I'll wait until someone records the thing and uploads it

Who Owns Oregon? Some Historical Context

RFlagg says...

He noted it in the description and an annotation... apparently annotations like that don't show up on embeds, probably due to some vids being spammed with them.

He even joked about it on his Twitter...
If I could learn the difference between east and west and memorize my state capitals, I might become a halfway decent vlogger some day.

Good video, I would like to offer a correction: Portland - not the capital of Oregon.

Probably...I didn't notice it was an annotation when I saw it on the tube, I thought it was just part of the video...but I think you hit the nail on the head here. Good on ya.

Maybe the patent pending didn't show because annotations are turned off on VS by default.

Odd, on youtube, it did have a 'patent pending' notation when he showed the pattern/blade. I didn't see it when I watched it again here.

I started a YouTube gaming news channel - Factual Gamer (Videogames Talk Post)

ChaosEngine says...

Yeah, that wasn't really directed at you, but more at the whole "give us an objective review" cry that's been going around.

For the record, my two favourite gaming sites are bluesnews (that's how I found the sift in the first place) and rockpapershotgun, for different reasons obviously.

The reason I like blues and the issue I have with news in video format is time. I can read a days page of news on blues in well under a minute, spawning tabs of interest as I go.

Your video is 6:25 long.
First up is the BAFTA awards: it's a fairly dry list with no commentary on it. If I want that information, a link to http://awards.bafta.org/award/2015/games is a much more succinct way of presenting it.

Then some news about Hawken: cool! Hawken is awesome and I've been hoping to hear more about it.

Elder Scrolls: don't care.
Nintendo licensing agreement: don't care
Nintendo's next console: don't care

Steam refund policy change: Interesting.
Kojima to leave Konami: interesting.

The point is not what I care about or don't care about, that's going to be different for everyone. The point is I have to fast forward to the news I'm interested in and as presented, it's an inherently bad format for that.

Maybe instead of one long video have a series of shorter videos linked via annotations? Or even timecodes in the description. That way, we can jump to the stories we're interested in.

Haaaa... but you didn't really see any review on my channel now, did you?

Reviews are inherently biased and a mere opinion.

Buying a Random Student the Textbooks She Can't Afford

lucky760 says...

Sounds nice. In my experience, no, it isn't that easy. Books tend not to be available in the library and PDFs are few and far between. Even if those were options, I usually needed a hard copy I could highlight and annotate. And a semester's books did always cost into the hundreds of US dollars.

RedSky said:

Everyone made this out to be a big deal but at least with my uni you could almost always find it available in the library reverse and grab it a few weeks out before the semester started.

Also, most of the big name textbooks can be found in convenient PDF format for a ... very low price, if you are willing to look.

The Lord of the Rings Mythology Explained - CGP Grey

MilkmanDan says...

The Silmarillion reads very differently than Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, or any novel really... It has a sort of scripture / Biblical feel about it, even beyond the creation story that starts the book being a Tolkien-style Genesis.

But even beyond that, there is a lot of great material in there if you can get around the denseness of it. The story of the war that finishes off the first age is really, really good.

But before you give the book a shot, know that 1 page of Silmarillion takes longer to digest than 1 page of most texts. Very helpful to get the footnote annotated edition that has an appendix to refer to to help remind you when characters pop up that haven't been mentioned for a LONG time, etc.

YouTube Rewind: Turn Down for 2014!

If you're signed into YouTube you can go to: https://www.youtube.com/account_playback and uncheck the option for annotations. That turns them off by default but you can turn them on if you want from the player's setting thing. Sucky part is, you lose the easy ability to click on the boxes people put on their videos for related stuff.

Is there a way to disable permanently stupid annotations in Youtube ??

Best way I've found is the ImprovedTube extension for Chrome:
http://www.improvedtube.com/

Can disable annotations, turn on/off autoplay, automatically force the quality to a setting that you want, hide the comments section, etc. Some of the settings are buggy (autoplay off for me works MOST of the time but not all), but the annotations part is solid in my experience.

I hate bloody annotations also.
