Obama Signs Order Closing Guantanamo

I'm trying to poke and prod the insanity that allows some to ignore the atrocities Muslims have inflicted on the world throughout the centuries

Atrocities were committed by Christians and other religious dominations for centuries as well, you are connecting a religion with a political conflict. Islamic terrorism uses Islam simply as a tool not as a idealogical cornerstone.

in favor of exploiting and getting hysterical over what amount to minor infractions which likely saved innocent lives.

Minor infractions to someone who doesn't respect the moral and ethical standing of the US in the international arena. Americans won World War 2 and the Cold War because it did not succumb to the same thinking that drove oppressive regimes like that, the entire American ideology is built around Law and respect for Civil Liberties. You are supporting a means to a end that would basically bring down the America you seek to save.

When you let government nationalize once-free markets, you are giving up freedom for an assumed quality of health security.

This is just stupid Right wing alarmist rubbish, if the socialization of health care means that people do not receive health care please explain the high health rates amongst 'socialist' states like Japan, England, Canada and most of Europe. Thanks.

Health care is not a commodity thus you cannot create a free market around it, you can create a free market in it's provision but not in its supply. Corporations don't care about social health and welfare, they care about profits.

History does not support this conclusion. There have been over 12,000 attacks by Islamic terrorists since 9/11 and no news anywhere that Obama's election has given terrorists pause.

It's fucking January 24th 2009. How long has Obama been in power?

Call it a personality defect, but I feel nothing for people sworn to kill me for being an American or infidel.

Am muslim. I never really had the need to kill you because you are a kaffir. You are too amusing to be lost.

These scum are not part of a legitimate fighting force so they can't be sent home, nor do they qualify for protection under the Geneva Conventions, which they ignore completely.

Under Geneva Conventions Article 3 they are covered for capture. The Geneva Conventions give no coverage in the face of crimes, thus your allegation that they are given blanket protection is ill informed.

It's only treason to question The One's judgment and secrecy here at liberalsift.

Says the person who would vehemently defend each and every decision that Bush would make, even claiming that questioning his thinking was treason, before reversing course and calling him a soft Conservative and a RINO half way through 2007.

Flat earth didn't have a global empire to protect from the idea of a spherical earth, though.

All we really want from people is efficiency, conservation, and a move away from fossil fuels. Global warming is our motivation, but it's a good idea for everyone, regardless.

Warmist sounds a lot like alarmist, doesn't it? We'll most likely see more of those for the next four years. Quality find, Irishman. We need more opposing viewpoints on this issue, because the Gore-following Warmist Automatons think the debate is over about Global Warming, science be damned.

Yes, all people who follow mainstream scientific belief are automatons.

That's what they tell me in my weekly Flat Earth Society meetings. We've got to stop those deadly Sphere-ists from throwing away billions on "satellites" that just sail over the edge of the earth, never to be seen again!

I mean, they're obviously trying to cow people into giving up good money with fear, the word Sphere-ists has phere fear built right into it!

Yes, alarmist. Very much so. Are the millions of people taking to the streets also being alarmist? I think they are, and I also think there's good reason.

I don't think I'm wrong on Obama but I hope I am.

Obama's speech last June in AIPAC has a scary relevance right now doesn't it? Remember, it was the one were he gave his unequivocal support for Israel's right to defend itself. Now we know how Israel likes to defend itself.

That's why I think he was the wrong president and Ron Paul was the right one.

I didn't think I was speaking *for* the WHOLE WORLD, I think it's pretty clear what the WHOLE WORLD thinks of Bush, and in time it'll be pretty clear what the WHOLE WORLD thinks of Obama.

So check back with me in a few years and we'll see if I was right or wrong.

I'll be very satisfied to be wrong about Obama on Israel.

ONLY American pressure will end this genocide, as it did in Lebanon.
If Americans think that the world is angry about Bush, just you wait and see what the world will think of America if Obama doesn't condemn this and stop funding and supporting the Israeli military machine.
This is about rolling tanks into a country and slaughtering civilians, women, kids, babies. Those tanks were bought and paid for with American dollars. It's genocide and people around the world are sickened to their stomachs and are taking to the streets in protest.
This will either be America's finest hour or it will be the beginning of an almighty holocaust in the middle east.

Below is a couple paragraphs about Christopher Booker, taken from an article titled "The patron saint of charlatans is again spreading dangerous misinformation".

For several years he has been waging a similar war against "warmist alarmists", by which he means climate scientists. Nine days ago, for instance, he attacked Michael Mann for publishing a paper that shows (alongside scores of other studies) that global temperatures do indeed follow the famous hockey-stick pattern: a moderate long-term cooling trend terminating in a sudden upward bend. Mann, Booker told his readers, had been "selective ... in his new data, excluding anything which confirmed the Medieval Warming". But Mann's paper, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, uses every uncluttered high-resolution proxy temperature record in the public domain. How did Booker trip up so badly? By using the claims of unqualified bloggers to refute peer-reviewed studies.

Under their guidance he routinely mistakes weather for climate and makes claims about the temperature record that bear no relation to the studies he cites. My favourite Booker column is the piece he wrote in February, titled "So it appears that Arctic ice isn't vanishing after all". In September 2007, he reported, "sea ice cover had shrunk to the lowest level ever recorded. But for some reason the warmists are less keen on the latest satellite findings, reported by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ... Its graph of northern hemisphere sea ice area, which shows the ice shrinking from 13,000 million sq km to just 4 million from the start of 2007 to October, also shows it now almost back to 13 million sq km". To reinforce this point, he helpfully republished the graph, showing that the ice had indeed expanded between September and January. The Sunday Telegraph continues to employ a man who cannot tell the difference between summer and winter.

But for the Wikipedia Professor of Gibberish, this patron saint of charlatans, even the seasons are negotiable. Booker remains right, whatever the evidence says. It is hard to think of any journalist - Melanie Phillips included - who has spread more misinformation. The world becomes even harder to navigate. You cannot trust the people who tell you whom to trust.

Okay, bad example.

In any case, it is my hope that after a few years of President Obama, many of you conservatives will discover that your fears were alarmist, irrational, unfounded, and built on a foundation of fear and lies.

I'm actually not a big fan of the Democrats' "steal from the rich and give to the poor" platform... I believe charity should be voluntary, not forced. But it sure beats the hell out of the "steal from the poor and give to the rich" platform of the Republican party.

You Yanks badly need to ditch that 2-party system.

So is there any reputable news source for this? I couldn't find anything in a search and the newspaper and TV media have nothing to say on it. It honestly sounds like a solo anti-government alarmist blip. But if anyone can confirm this story other then the short paragraph on one anti-establishment web site I'd be interested in reading it.
