Human Helicopter Powered by Hands and Feet
Is it just me or did it look like they were just holding it up the whole time? I never even saw the rotors get up to speed.
Why Do Helicopters Have Speed Limits? Physics

What about Helicopters with coaxial rotors?
That is essentially what the Chinook is. One blade goes clockwise, the other blade...well, I'm betting you can figure it out.

Airborne Helium Wind Turbine Prototype 2012
i'm not sold on the concept. "twice the power of a tower mounted turbine"? but this one has a puny little rotor, whereas the bigges turbines have a rotor alone of more than 400ft in diameter. and this little thing only floats 1000ft in the air (at least they plan to do so, only having achieved 350ft up until now). granted, there's surely more wind "up there" but then what? compare a 400ft rotor (the whole thing is 600ft in total height) to this little plastic sucker in 1000ft? the E-126 turbine i'm taling about generates 6MW. i want to see 12MW coming out of this little blimp thing :-)

AH-64 Apache helicopter crash in Sharana, Afghanistan
pilot error. not enough altitude and he didn't execute the maneuver very well - the chopper should have pivoted around at the end of the upward curve and straighten itself in the direction of flight thus giving the rotors a chance to provide lift as soon as possible before it starts loosing too much height. altitude of the terrain was also a factor, but the pilot should have calculated that in ...
Rotor Cam - (360 Deg. Chopper View While Re-Fueling)
that video is very cool>> ^Jinx:

im kinda let down the helicopter wasnt turned on fully
I remember seeing a video on the sift where somebody does that (only looking out, not in). You get a really wierd effect because of the way the camera samples. Turned the landscape into a sort of sine wave. http://youtu.be/EnrwrwMfNSs
Assuming you could mount the camera to the blade tip so it wouldn't fly off, balance the blades and then spin them up to a multiple of the cameras refresh rate I'd wager you'd get a similar effect. You might be able to see the front and back of the Helicopter simultaneously
Ruin - Post-Apocalyptic Short CGI Film
INDEED.
I for one would like an in depth discussion on the realism of this animated featurette so i don't feel so inadequate that i have no ability to make anything anywhere near as talented as this.
- the pulse rockets on the chasing missile thingies don't seem to be adequate to keep them aloft
- They aren't positioned centrally balanced to stop them crashing into the ground immediately.
- They also would run out of fuel and would never be able to go fast enough to catch a motor bike.
- He appeared to have magical LED implants in his hands and we all know that noone has these.
- The flying ship hovered on two small rotors which clearly would not be large enough to fly a armoured vessel carrying ammunition of this type.
- Electro cutting swords don't exist.
- Plunging it into the "head" of a drone probably wont kill it as sensor arrays are more likely to be at the front rather than central flight and control circuitry.
- how did he get to the top of the building as elevators would no longer be working.
- How did he get down to ground level again so fast, it seems like only a minute.
- honestly i could go on but i feel much better about myself already.
Some people say that failing to enjoy something because i couldn't relax and accept suspension of disbelief is my problem - but i think if everything i watch themed on a fictional setting isn't 100% accurate and researched then not enough attention has been paid to avoid me from ranting pointlessly on and on and on!

Top Gear Viper AH-1 Helicopter Crash
Is that a two or a four bladed rotor I'm seeing? Looks like a two bladed one, which would make it a Cobra or a SuperCobra, since the Viper has a four-bladed rotor.
Helicopter Falls Apart After Landing.
>> ^blutruth:
I'd love to know what caused that catastrophic failure.
Somebody glued a penny to one of its rotors.

I would guess rotor imbalance or ground resonance
The Dark Knight Rises - Full Trailer
In its defense, it's not finished (still filming possibly, or at least just wrapped). There are scenes in there that clearly have yet to get a full CG pass... For example, the Batwing at the end, I heard that would be getting CG rotor blades in post-production, and its windows look like they were made of plastic... There's plenty of time for CG polish...

The explosions on the football field were truly, truly terrible. How can such a big budget film, with such a pedigree, have a such obviously CG effect.
Horrendous.
I'm hoping the film is good, but that bit looks just flat out crap.

Another angle, slo-mo, but he station's idiot ID covers the rotor.
