Bidenmomics

cloudballoon says...

Bob thinks Biden not referring to himself in 3rd person like Trump does all the time means Biden's not talking about the economy, LOL. Mindless cultist only wants to be lead, not to have independent thought, and they're like Sleepy Don, they're too lazy to verify lies and rather make up facts, statistic be damn!

I'm a Canadian, and damn I wish we here across the border is doing as well as the USA. The exchange rate (for us) against the USD is down the toilet, inflation is several times higher than the USA and far from being in check. The labor market is weak as shit. I mean, just look outside of your border and be thankful the USA got through the pandemic years to freak good.

Bill Maher - New Rule - The Danger of False Equivalency

transmorpher says...

Bill is trying to get through to exactly people with your voting strategy.

He's saying :

Don't throw away your vote by voting for a 3rd person, just because you don't want either Trump or Clinton.

What people have to accept is that the president will either be Trump or Clinton. So the only sensible thing to do is to vote Clinton, just to be doubly sure that Trump is not going to get in.

Save your protest against Clinton for the next election (assuming we don't have Trump again!) Because voting for anyone but Clinton, is basically a vote for Trump.

You lose either way this election, so voting is now just a matter of making sure you lose as best as possible.

That's what Bill is saying in terms of false equivalency: Just because they are both bad, doesn't mean that they are of equal badness

Anyway I'm not in the US but the knock on effects of your vote will still effect me so please vote Clinton

I only listened to that last 3 minutes because of ^, and because i generaly can't stomach Bill.

I have a hard time buying into the idea that people can't tell them apart. You don't have to do much/any study to see that they are incredibly different. Just because you don't like either of them doesn't in any way say that you think they are equal. I hate them both for completely different reasons. And although i dislike them both I would rather one of them be president over the other. My vote however will not reflect who that is.

Tested Tests Valve's Steam Controller

ChaosEngine says...

Steam link is very interesting to me.

I'm a PC gamer. I don't own any consoles and 99% of the time I'm perfectly happy with that (using a controller for an FPS is sick and wrong!).

But there are some games I would like to play from my couch with a controller (Arkham for instance)

As for the controller itself, it looks ok, but I really don't see any reason to use it over my trusty old 360 pad. As I said, I'll never play an fps with anything other than kbm, so unless it's better for driving or 3rd person, I'm gonna go with meh.

Oh and just in case anyone thinks I'm just hating on Valve, I'm drinking coffee at work from my aperture science mug and I have a signed poster of the TF2 heavy in my house

Tom Clancy's The Division - Cinematic Trailer - 2014

Breakthrough In Gaming - Second-Person Shooter Mode

Payback says...

The "first person" in "first person shooter" means the narrative mode.

Modes of Narration:

1st person narrative: You're speaking of yourself.
"I walked into the room, and yelled 'BLARGH!' "

2nd person narrative: You're speaking of the person you are speaking to.
"You walked into the room, and yelled 'BLARGH!' "

3rd person narrative: You are speaking of a third person.
"He walked into the room, and yelled 'BLARGH!' "

GTA's "flyby" cinematic camera comes to mind as an example of 2nd person mode.

This video grabbed my eye because I always wondered why "third-person" was adopted and not "second-person". First-person your view is through the eyes of your avatar. Third-person your view is as if you're standing behind your avatar or from the view of another "person". But why would that other person be the "third-person"?

Again, this is all my opinion, which you so fantastically love to shit all over.

So take your hormonal cry baby attitude and quit nit picking at shit you obviously have no grasp on.

South Park - Xbox One vs PS4

RFlagg says...

I get the idea that people want their friends on the same system, so they can play with/against one another. But the degree all sides get worked up is just odd. It's one of those cases of can't we just agree to disagree, but all sides get nearly evangelical.

My take... I prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 controller. I like the weight, the button and stick placements... just the whole feel is better, for me, at least for most games. Some 3rd person games benifit from the PS3 layout a bit better, but for shooters and platformers I think the 360 layout is better. Most of the exclusive titles next Gen are leaning me to the One, but most are cross platform, so that has little influence. For the current generation, I found the PS3 to be a far superior media machine, beyond the Blu-ray support, I think it does Netflix better (even discounting the poor UI the XBox had prior to the upcoming unified interface), which might be an issue with my router and it working better with the PS3 than the XBox, but even for connecting to my Windows PC and PlayOn (a program on my PC that allows me to use Hulu on the TV without Hulu Plus, and allows me to play more media types from my PC on the TV), it was better. However, the multiplayer on XBox seemed better, despite the fee... which gets me to a rub against the One, I wish Microsoft would remove the Gold requirement to access video services like Netflix, YouTube and the like. Leave the Gold requirement for multiplayer gaming, but video services should be broke off.

That said, most of my gaming is PC side... though for a game like Battlefield 4 or Titanfall I prefer a console... do in part to my lower end PC... yeah, the graphics on those games would look better (if my PC was a bit more modern), but I don't know, something about those style games makes me like the experience on the console better... same with Assassins Creed 4... actually, many console type games... but Steam and I love one another...

Grand Theft Auto V - First Gameplay Trailer

RedSky says...

At this point it's pretty likely it's a development build running on PC, too early to tell if it's really been optimised well for current gen consoles.

Anyway, I'm glad they're focussing explicitly on mechanics. I've always found GTA games to be full of superflous 'gameplay' I wouldn't ever spend time on. Perhaps I'm part of the cynical bunch that doesn't buy the immersion angle.

If more mini-games this time around are actual fun diversions then great. If the gun mechanics are tightened up, maybe it'll play as a better 3rd person shooter in it's own right.

Otherwise, I worry they're just bloating out the feature pool like they've done in each successive sequel.

You're More Beautiful Then You Think

Gregorioft says...

this is bias - the sketcher knew the purpose of the experiment thus he could have overly exaggerated the ugliness of the self-described sketch and overly-exaggerated the fine lines and beauty on the sketch described by the 3rd person (if you know what I mean).

Truly HOLY SHIT moment

Reactions and some Ingame-Footage of the Occulus Rift

ChaosEngine says...

One thing that interests me is the control aspect. By definition, this is only viable for a first person view point. You could maybe use it for 3rd person, but that seems kinda pointless.

Currently first person games assume 2 main control inputs, position and direction. I'm ignoring action based inputs (shooting, reloading using, etc) because this doesn't really change those. Right now, an FPS essentially assumes your body always faces the same way as your head. If you run forward and look right, you turn right.

This will have to change for this, or it's pointless. Essentially you'll need 3 inputs, position, direction and head orientation. That's doable with this system, but I'm not sure how it will affect gameplay. I certainly don't want to aim using my head.

Zero Punctuation: Battlefield 3

NetRunner says...

I'm surprised he didn't make mention of the number 3 in this review.

After all, 2011 is the season of shooter number three:

Gears of War 3
Modern Warfare 3
Battlefield 3
Resistance 3

We even have Uncharted 3, though technically that's action/adventure despite it being largely a 3rd person shooter...
