Why tthe sudden crry for helpp?

Lawl, you took what he said and then made it look like it said it about himself. I'm sure everyone bought it just like everyone thought "I know you are but what am I?" was the height of witty repartee... X D

I don't know what's more pathetic, your poor attempt at something a 5th grader would find puerile and ridiculous or your slavish adherance to the cult of Dubyah.

Don't cry though CP, Obama wants your opinion as well... =)

So you thought religion created good morals?

imstellar28 says...

nobody who is sane really believes in jesus. if someone really believed that after death they have a 50/50 chance of burning in agonizing hell for all time, they would be out in the streets screaming to the sky. they would be in their friends and families faces 24 hours a day trying to convert them.

there wouldn't be any of this "yeah I go to church on easter" or "yeah I believe in the bible, but I think its open to interpretation". people would be in church 7 days a week sacrificing goats in fire pits.

why would anyone mourn infant mortality? wouldn't people be going on non-stop skydiving trips? wouldn't everyone be trying to get into heaven as soon as possible, rather than risk slipping up and winding up in hell?

people would be going batsh*t insane if they really believed in jesus.

religion is not a source of morality, the culture which created it is. for proof, just open up the bible to a random page and try to use what it says as a moral guide and see how long it takes for you to wind up in jail. for extra fun, read the whole bible and try to use that as a moral guide and see how long it takes for you to receive the death penalty.

CNN Fact-Slaps McCain/Palin

MarineGunrock says...

Awesome clip. Now add the facts that McCain will cost the middle class more in taxes and he lied about being a non-interventionist in the economic sector when he said he would fix wall street and air it 24 hours a day for three days before the election.

IGS 2007: Kim Swift - 'From Narbacular Drop To Portal'

NordlichReiter says...

There are suits... and there are independents.

Independents.

Digipen, fullsale, collins collge... there is nothing special about them.

There is no school that will train you for 5 year projects, 24 hour work days, and mountain dew.

If you want to do design games.. and are not the lucky 1% that make it right into a design position, I suggest you start testing games. Learn how to write ... well, be good at it. Have a portfolio, and then when you think that you are ready... put some ideas down on the designers. You could get lucky.

In short, dont asskiss, but cater to them.

Fox News Gets Reefer Madness Over So-Called Killer Marijuana

I should have got back to this thread earlier but a couple of quick comments should be made I'd guess.

deedub81, small problem with the study you point to and others like it, and it's one that almost any scientist would grant as a problem if you asked them about it. Couple of problems actually.

First and biggest problem is that it doesn't refer in any way to a blind or controlled study but to a self selected group. Some never try pot at all and some try it and get bored, quit. Some stick with it. What is the difference between them? Is it possible or even likely that there was a difference between them to start with?

Problem with self selected groups is that it tells us nothing about the subject as it relates to the population as a whole. It just tells us about that group. Most people taking nitro have heart problems but the nitro didn't cause it, in the same vein it's possible or even likely that the higher incidence of problems among pot smokers is an indication of attempts to self medicate rather than an indication that it's the source of the problem. We need controlled studies rather than self selected groups to find out more about it.

Second problem is that it's badly overstated. The chance of psychotic disorders among the population as a whole is almost nothing. Almost nothing times 1.41 is still almost nothing. Almost nothing times 2 is still almost nothing. For the vast majority there would be little risk even if pot was a "cause" of problems and pot wouldn't be alone there. Alcohol also has the same effect on a small number of people. Treating equivalent risks in a legally equivalent manner seems reasonable to me but that's not what we're doing. We're treating the one we wonder about more harshly than the one we know is dangerous. Some rethinking of the laws concerned seems due even if the fears are right and it's as bad as alcohol is. I don't think it is though, studied heavily since the 60's and this uncontrolled self selected maybe is the best we've got so far.

On pot growing 24 hours a day, yes it does. So do humans, even when we sleep. Some plants need that sleep or rest period more than others and some in different ways. The Poinsettia we all see in the Christmas season is similar in a way, it won't develop the red color we associate with it if not given long nights. If that dark period is interrupted or cut short it stays green instead of red. With pot the difference is in if it flowers or how strongly it flowers. Nothing but long days and it won't flower at all or might produce a few stray small ones but no real "buds". With long nights but not long enough or occasionally interrupted nights it might flower weakly but not as well as it should and the chance of producing male flowers on a female plant goes up with confused lighting periods.

Posting this is sort of cathartic for me. The 1984 games were the first I was consciously really aware of, and they really put me off TV sports.

Germany had 3 TV stations back then (we could only receive two), and cartoons only came tuesday afternoons for an hour. The only other kids series was Colt Sievers (The Fall Guy) mondays just before the news. And for TWO WEEKS 24 hours a day all you got on both channels was the games and news. My precious tv shows were cancelled for this boring stuff.... And the incessant doodeling of this tune on the radio. I don't think I'll ever recover.

24 hours of light a day makes pot on steroids? Nope. It makes lots of leaves but no buds, little potency and little worth to anyone. Pot only flowers with about 12 hours of total darkness a night. Interrupt or cut it short and you screw the grow. They should have mentioned that somewhere too.
That was some of the most fantasy filled, fact free reporting I've seen on the subject in a while though I'll admit to not watching FOX, so maybe that explains it.

there we go, Alright, someone did there homework, thats why you don't work for fox.

PS, I have grown some pretty damn good marijuana outdoors, its all about the genetics and what th plant prefers. Some weed (mostly sativa) hates 24 hours a day, it stresses the strain out causes it to stretch, and turn hermaphrodite

Racist Japanese Commercial?

SDGundamX says...

I suspect this has nothing to do with Obama. There's a Japanese drama airing right now called "CHANGE" (yes, they use all caps in the title) in which a political neophyte suddenly finds himself elected Prime Minister and goes about reforming Japan's corrupt political system. The commercial may be trying to capitalize on the popularity of the drama.

The commercial itself is for 'E-Mobile,' a cell phone provider whose name is a pun that basically means "Great cell phone." Also, E-Mobile's mascot has been the monkey from before this commercial was shot (another reason why it isn't likely an insulting shot aimed at Obama).

Commercial's content:

"Everyone, E-Mobile is now now 1980 yen (about US $20) every month. For just 1980 yen a month, you can talk as much as you want 24-hours a day with other E-mobile customers. E-mobile brings... CHANGE!"

(Crying monkey shot)

"Cell phone... revolution."

Romney's Religion - The Facts (Politics Talk Post)

gorgonheap says...

(1) 5 years ago the leader of the Mormon Church listed the 3 greatest threats to their church: feminism, homosexuality, and science.

Site a source, you'll find it's been taken out of context.

(2) Mormon’s use their children to perform faux baptisms for the dead, sometimes 24 hours a day.

Half truth, Mormons baptize on behalf of the dead who have not had the opportunity. But not 24 hours a day. No one is forced into this as you suggest.

(3) Church members who point out contradictions between scientific findings and church teachings are excommunicated.

Excommunication is a serious offense in the church. When members reject the teaching of the church for other doctrines that are not compatible. There are many members of the church who are prominent professors and scientists who contribute much to the scientific community.

(4) A Mormon family must dress entirely in white, from underwear to outer clothes and shoes, to attend Temple on Sunday.

Mormons do not attend temple on Sunday. And they do not where all white on Sunday. Only in temple ceremonys.

(5) Mormons are not allowed to share details about their religion to non-members.

False, Mormons are willing to share their beliefs. See what Grimm said.

Romney's Religion - The Facts (Politics Talk Post)

Grimm says...

Let me first just say that the difference between "religion" and "cult religion" is just time. There is no source given for these "Mormon Facts" and since most of the people in my family are Mormons I know enough about them to recognize that some of that stuff don't add up.

The funny thing is that Mormons believe just about all of the same silly things that Christians believe. It's only the quirks that make them different that are pointed out as being "odd" and "strange" when the truth is ALL of it is odd and strange.

(1) 5 years ago the leader of the Mormon Church listed the 3 greatest threats to their church: feminism, homosexuality, and science.
I'd like to see that quote. I wouldn't be surprised if they said something like that about homosexuality. Maybe feminism if it's a quote from 30-40 years ago...I'd be surprised if they said something like that as recent as 5 years ago. The thing about science doesn't sound right either. Mormons believe in the Bible but also believe that there is no such thing as an existing Bible that is 100% word for word of the original writings. So they don't really sweat the details much when science disagrees with it like other religions do.

(2) Mormon’s use their children to perform faux baptisms for the dead, sometimes 24 hours a day.
This is partially true. They use people age 14 and up so of the 14-17 year olds they are "teenage children". While I guess it is "possible" that they could perform these "24 hours a day" it's not with the same people. They are there to perform the service for about 4 hours and they do that only about once a year.

(3) Church members who point out contradictions between scientific findings and church teachings are excommunicated.
Could be true...but what religion isn't going to kick someone out that comes to teach it's members that they are wrong?

(4) A Mormon family must dress entirely in white, from underwear to outer clothes and shoes, to attend Temple on Sunday.
This one is way off. Mormon families don't "attend Temple on Sunday". They go to "church" on Sunday and the males wear suit and tie of any color and the females wear dresses of any color. Now they do "dress entirely in white, from underwear to outer clothes and shoes" when they are in the Temple but that is something they can do any day and generally only single or married men and married women are allowed in the Temple. Not just any member of the church.

(5) Mormons are not allowed to share details about their religion to non-members.
They aren't allowed to share specific details about the Temple...anything else about the religion is not off limits.
